Darlan's multi size adjustable castings

While looking for castings I realized that you have to buy a separate casting for every gem, this can become very expensive. That's why I came up with the idea to create a casting that could be adjusted to fit several different sizes of stones in one casting: The casting would be on a spring slide to hold the gem tight. There will be a release mechanism to move slide to desired position and tighten down to hold gem. When the tool is removed the gem locks in place. This idea will work for rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets or broaches. You can switch the gems to match different outfits. With this idea one casting can work for several size stones, you only have to buy a different shaped casting.

Description

I buy many different shapes and sizes of gems. While looking for castings I realized that you have to buy a separate casting for every gem you buy, this is very expensive. Then I came up with the idea to create a casting that could be adjusted to fit several different sizes of stones in one casting. My First thought was for princess or emerald cut gems. This way it would separate and still have a beautiful look. It would need to separate to hold either stone.

The casting would be on a spring slide to hold the gem tight. There will be a release mechanism to move slide to desired position and tighten down to hold gem. When the tool is removed the gem locks in place. I am still working on the special tool to release mechanism. This idea will work for rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets or broaches. You can switch the gems to match different outfits. With this idea one casting can Work for several size stones, you only have to buy a different shaped casting.

Then I had to find someone to create the casting for me. I wrote in detail my idea with rough drawings and mailed it to myself, sealed and dated by post office on Oct. 14, 2005. Then I went to a jeweler named Craig S. Smith to have it created. His drawings are included. I am still working on emerald, round and diamond shapes, to separate in four places individually. I am also working on the tool needed for this.

I will file these as an add-on separately. After Craig figured out a way to make slide mechanism work and I received copies, I started getting paperwork together. Craig went through the computer to check all sites for a duplicate of my idea. After we were sure nothing else came close to my idea, I filed the claim.
