Vertically and horizontally adjustable bedside organizer

A vertically and horizontally adjustable bedside organizer for organizing, storing, and accessing any items that could be found in and around a bed. The two supporting components, the horizontal base plate and adjustable vertical plate, are attached together and simultaneously adjusted to desired height. The cloth pocket organizer is attached to the top of the adjustable vertical plate by lowering the sleeve opening over the top of the adjusting vertical plate with the sleeve side facing the inside of the adjustable vertical plate. The sleeve can be reversed and face the outside of the assembly depending on the needs of the user. The assembled organizer can be installed and uninstalled by grabbing the mattress at the desired horizontal/lateral position and slightly lifting the bottom edge of the mattress enough to allow the horizontal base plate to slide under the mattress.

Description
BACKGROUND of the INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to bedside organizers that are configured to be attached to beds for storing and accessing any items typically used while in a bed, and more particularly, is directed towards vertically and horizontally adjustable organizers that customizes the exact location of the organizer for maximum convenience for each user and allows for easy removal for changing of bed linens.

2. Description of the Prior Art

Over the past thirty years the compositions, sizes, heights and costs of beds have changed dramatically. The need to store and easily access various items of use while in bed has also changed and grown significantly creating a greater need for storage and accessibility of common bedside items. Side tables and nightstands provide a partial solution but create issues of clutter and easy access by those users with limited movement or unable to move quickly enough at a moments notice to reach the needed item.

While bedside organizers have been invented (referenced on line 9 of this paragraph) that organize various items these organizers are extremely limited as to vertical and/or horizontal adjustment on the side of bed. Two of the prior art samples listed below fix the position of access to the storage pockets at the lower level of the mattress. The thicker the mattress the further down the side of the mattress the user must reach. The third prior art sample fixes the opening to upper limit or top of the mattress with no adjustment for height. These same organizers are difficult to install and remove as needed for changing bed linens and presenting a view of the bed without the organizer attached (aesthetics). These prior art samples provide a set of pockets on both sides of the bed even though there may only be a need for an organizer on one side of the bed. Such organizers are shown in U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,129,909; 5,581,829; and 6,848,132. Thus, there exists a need for an organizer that is both adjustable to height (vertical) and horizontal position on the bed, is extremely easy to install and remove, and is used on only one side of the bed.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the present invention to provide a bedside organizer that can be adjusted both vertically (height) and horizontally (laterally) on the length of the mattress. In addition, the completely assembled invention can be easily removed and then reinstalled in a matter of a few seconds without removing any stored items in the organizer. The bedside organizer includes a horizontal base plate which is inserted between the mattress and box spring or other object under the mattress. This base plate can slide up and down the length of the mattress. An adjustable vertical plate is attached to the horizontal base plate and adjusted to desired height. The cloth pocket organizer assembly with installation sleeve is installed over the top of the adjustable vertical plate by lowering the sleeve opening over the top of the adjustable vertical plate until the top of the adjustable vertical plate and inside top of the sleeve meet.

The invention accordingly comprises the apparatuses and systems, together with their parts, elements, and interrelationships that are exemplified in the following disclosure, the scope of which will be indicated in the appended claims.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

A fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the present invention will become apparent upon consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a perspective ¾ view of Part A—the Horizontal Base Plate;

FIG. 2 is a perspective ¾ view of Part B—the Adjustable Vertical Plate;

FIG. 3 provides full frontal perspectives for the cloth pocket organizer assembly for both the outside pockets and the inside mounting sleeve with pockets;

FIG. 4 provides assembly process of the three components;

FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the installed apparatus.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Referring to the drawing in FIG. 5 there is shown an adjustable bedside organizer installed on a bed between the box spring (base) and the mattress. As herein described, the adjustable bedside organizer is composed of three components shown in FIGS. 1-3 to be assembled by the user.

The horizontal base plate (FIG. 1) is composed of ABS plastic or other suitable strong flexible material with a rectangle cut out occupying approximately eighty percent of the flat horizontal portion of the base plate. This cut out area will be occupied by mattress material after installation to provide stability to the invention. The top of the horizontal plate will have a series of bumps to facilitate the gripping of the horizontal base plate to the mattress and will allow for slight lifting of the mattress for the removal or adjustment of the invention after installation. The horizontal plate will have a slot to accommodate the installation of the bottom portion of the adjustable vertical plate (FIG. 2). The horizontal base plate will have one continuous curved side rising vertically 90 degrees. This vertical side will have two tapped/threaded adjusting holes that will receive the mounting bolts through the adjustable vertical plate adjusting holes.

The adjustable vertical plate (FIG. 2) is composed of ABS plastic or other suitable strong flexible material with a cut out. This adjustable vertical plate will have two vertical rows of adjusting holes. The bottom holes will be centered equal distances from the bottom of the plate and sides of the plate. Subsequent holes will be on matching centers totaling six (6) holes.

The cloth pocket organizer assembly (FIG. 3) begins with a base piece of polyester cloth material or other suitable synthetic or natural material trimmed in nylon bias material. Sewn to this base piece of material is a series of pockets in various sizes with overlapping and segregating seams sewn to create smaller pockets. This main series of pockets faces the outside of the assembly which faces away from the bed when installed on the adjustable vertical plate. On the reverse side/inside of the base material an installation sleeve approximately one half the height of the base material is sewn to the upper half of the base material with the opening of the sleeve facing down. This sleeve opening is designed to slide over the top of the adjustable vertical plate providing a stable firm structure to support the weight of all items placed in the pockets. Sewn to the surface of this sleeve is another piece of pocket material with a vertical seam to create two separate pockets. All openings to the sleeve and all pockets are trimmed in nylon bias or other suitable material.

Since certain changes may be made in the foregoing disclosure without departing from the scope of the invention herein involved, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description and depicted in the accompanying drawings be construed in an illustrative and not in a limiting sense. In particular, the method of attachment and adjustment of the adjustable vertical plate to the horizontal base plate is not limited to using bolts and threaded holes as illustrated.
