WEARABLE FLORAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD
A wearable floral display device such as a corsage or boutonniere for displaying a decorative item such as a flower that includes a wire through at least a portion of the decorative item and wherein the device includes a stem portion wherein the stem portion includes an axial bore to receive a portion of the wire, a decorative item receiving portion at one end, a base portion at the opposite end, and a mid portion therebetween. The device also includes wire retaining means for retaining the decorative item to the decorative item receiving portion and garment attachment means integral with the stem portion for detachably attaching the display device to a garment.
This application relates generally to corsages or boutonnieres worn by attendees at weddings, dances, or any other special occasions where such items are worn. More specifically, this application relates to a wearable floral display device and a method of making such devices, which can be used in conjunction with decorative items such as flowers to generate corsages or boutonnieres.
SUMMARYThe making of corsages and boutonnieres is a tedious and time-consuming task for florists. Described herein is a wearable floral display device that can be utilized by florists to make this task much simpler and more cost effective. This application discloses wearable floral display devices that are generated from non-perishable items that when used in conjunction with decorative items, such as flowers (perishable or non-perishable), results in a corsage or boutonniere that is easy to assemble, attaches to the wardrobe of the user, maintains its shape, and resembles that of a traditional corsage or boutonniere. The device is of simple construction and can be used anywhere it is desirable to generate a corsage or boutonniere with the above mentioned benefits.
In particular, this application discloses a wearable floral display device for displaying a decorative item that includes a wire through at least a portion of said item, said device comprising: a stem portion wherein said stem portion includes an axial bore therethrough to receive a portion of said wire, a decorative item receiving portion at one end, a base portion at the opposite end, and a mid portion therebetween; wire retaining means for retaining said decorative item to said decorative item receiving portion; and, garment attachment means integral with said stem portion for detachably attaching said device to a garment.
This application also discloses a wearable floral display device for displaying a decorative item that includes a wire through at least a portion of said item, said device comprising: a stem portion wherein said stem portion includes an axial bore therethrough to receive a portion of said wire, a decorative item receiving portion at one end, a base portion at the opposite end, and a mid portion therebetween; wire retaining means for retaining said decorative item to said decorative item receiving portion; garment attachment means integral with said stem portion for detachably attaching said device to a garment; and, a garnish portion integral with said stem portion.
This application further discloses a method of creating a garment worn corsage or boutonniere for displaying a decorative item, the method comprising the steps of: utilizing a wearable floral display device comprising a stem portion wherein said stem portion includes an axial bore therethrough, a decorative item receiving portion at one end, a base portion at the opposite end, a mid portion therebetween, and garment attachment means; attaching a wire through at least a portion of the decorative item; inserting a portion of the wire through the axial bore in said stem portion such that the decorative item is received in said receiving portion; and, securing said wire portion wire to said stem portion such that the attached decorative item is retained in said receiving portion.

Claims
1. A wearable floral display device for displaying a decorative item that includes a wire through at least a portion of said item, said device comprising:
- a stem portion wherein said stem portion includes an axial bore therethrough to receive a portion of said wire, a decorative item receiving portion at one end, a base portion at the opposite end, and a mid portion therebetween;
- wire retaining means for retaining said decorative item to said decorative item receiving portion; and,
- garment attachment means integral with said stem portion for detachably attaching said device to a garment.
2. The device of claim 1 wherein the wire retaining means is affected by wrapping the wire attached to said decorative item about the base of the stem portion.
3. The device of claim 2 wherein the garment attachment means is selected from the group consisting of a fastenable pin, magnets, U-shaped pin, and cufflink.
4. The device of claim 1 wherein the wire retaining means is affected by using an adhesive about a portion of the wire attached to said decorative item and the stem portion.
5. The device of claim 4 wherein the garment attachment means is selected from the group consisting of a fastenable pin, magnets, U-shaped pin, and cufflink.
6. The device of claim 1 wherein the stem portion is flexible and can be curved to maintain a given shape to retain the wire portion in said axial bore and thereby retain the attached decorative item in the decorative item receiving portion of said stem portion.
7. The device of claim 6 wherein the garment attachment means is selected from the group consisting of a fastenable pin, magnets, U-shaped pin, and cufflink.
8. A wearable floral display device for displaying a decorative item that includes a wire through at least a portion of said item, said device comprising:
- a stem portion wherein said stem portion includes an axial bore therethrough to receive a portion of said wire, a decorative item receiving portion at one end, a base portion at the opposite end, and a mid portion therebetween;
- wire retaining means for retaining said decorative item to said decorative item receiving portion;
- garment attachment means integral with said stem portion for detachably attaching said device to a garment; and,
- a garnish portion integral with said stem portion.
9. The device of claim 8 wherein the wire retaining means is affected by wrapping the wire attached to said decorative item about the base of the stem portion.
10. The device of claim 9 wherein the garment attachment means is selected from the group consisting of a fastenable pin, magnets, U-shaped pin, and cufflink.
11. The device of claim 8 wherein the wire retaining means is affected by using an adhesive about a portion of the wire attached to said decorative item and the stem portion.
12. The device of claim 11 wherein the garment attachment means is selected from the group consisting of a fastenable pin, magnets, U-shaped pin, and cufflink.
13. The device of claim 8 wherein the stem portion is flexible and can be curved to maintain a given shape to retain the wire portion in said axial bore and thereby retain the attached decorative item in the decorative item receiving portion of said stem portion.
14. The device of claim 13 wherein the garment attachment means is selected from the group consisting of a fastenable pin, magnets, U-shaped pin, and cufflink.
15. A method of creating a garment worn corsage or boutonniere for displaying a decorative item, the method comprising the steps of:
- utilizing a wearable floral display device comprising a stem portion wherein said stem portion includes an axial bore therethrough, a decorative item receiving portion at one end, a base portion at the opposite end, a mid portion therebetween, and garment attachment means;
- attaching a wire through at least a portion of the decorative item;
- inserting a portion of the wire through the axial bore in said stem portion such that the decorative item is received in said receiving portion; and,
- securing said wire portion wire to said stem portion such that the attached decorative item is retained in said receiving portion.
16. The method of claim 15 wherein the step of securing said wire portion to said stem portion is affected by wrapping the wire attached to said decorative item about the base of the stem portion.
17. The method of claim 16 wherein the wearable floral display device further comprises a garnish portion.
18. The method of claim 15 wherein the step of securing said wire portion to said stem portion is affected by using an adhesive about a portion of the wire attached to said decorative item and the stem portion.
19. The method of claim 18 wherein the wearable floral display device further comprises a garnish portion.
20. The method of claim 15 wherein the step of securing said wire portion to said stem portion is affected by a flexible stem portion that can be curved to maintain a given shape to retain the wire portion in said axial bore and thereby retain the attached decorative item in the decorative item receiving portion of said stem portion.
21. The method of claim 20 wherein the wearable floral display device further comprises a garnish portion.
