DENTAL CABINET WITH ROTATING WORKING SURFACE
A cabinet assembly for a dental office has a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments. An arm has a proximal end and a distal end that extends beyond the front of the base. A linear translatable coupler is affixed to the base and to the proximal end of the arm, the translatable coupler adapted for linear translation laterally with respect to the base. An extended working surface is positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm. An adjustable coupler has a portion affixed to the distal end of the arm and a portion affixed to the extended working surface and is movable in response to a force applied by a user for moving the extended working surface relative to the arm.

FIELDThe present disclosure relates to cabinets and, more specifically, to cabinets for dental offices.
BACKGROUNDThe statements in this section merely provide background information related to the present disclosure and may not constitute prior art.
Generally there is a need for cabinetry for dental offices that provide working surfaces for dentists and dental hygienists while working with dental patients. Generally the working surfaces are fixed or mobile are not easily adapted to working situations that require customization to meet the specific needs or desires of the dental personnel.
SUMMARYThe inventor hereof has succeeded at designing a cabinet for use in a dental office that includes an adjustable working surface that adjust to meet the location needs of a dental assistant or dentist while attending to a patient. Improved access as provided by the present dental cabinet provides for easier access to dental tools and to the patient with reduced movement by the attending dental personnel.
According to one aspect, a cabinet assembly for a dental office has a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments. An arm has a proximal end and a distal end that extends beyond the front of the base. A linear translatable coupler is affixed to the base and to the proximal end of the arm, the translatable coupler adapted for linear translation laterally with respect to the base. An extended working surface is positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm. An adjustable coupler has a portion affixed to the distal end of the arm and a portion affixed to the extended working surface and is movable in response to a force applied by a user for moving the extended working surface relative to the arm.
According to another aspect, a dental cabinet assembly with a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments, and includes an extended working surface positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm and means for providing linear translation of the extended working surface relative to the working surface of the base.
In some aspects this can also include means for providing lateral translation of the extended working surface relative to the working surface of the base.
In yet another aspect, a dental cabinet assembly includes a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments. The assembly also includes an extended working surface positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm; and means for providing angular translation of the extended working surface relative to the working surface of the base.

Before turning to the figures and the various exemplary embodiments illustrated therein, a detailed overview of various embodiments and aspects is provided for purposes of breadth of scope, context, clarity, and completeness.
In one embodiment, a cabinet assembly for a dental office has a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments. The base can include an orifice positioned beneath the base working surface that is configured and dimensioned for securing and retaining and holding the linear translatable coupler that is positioned within the cavity of the base and wherein the arm is adapted for extending from within the cavity through the orifice to beyond the front of the base. The orifice can be dimensioned for receiving at least a portion of or the entire extended working surface.
An arm has a proximal end and a distal end that extends beyond the front of the base. In some embodiments, the arm can be affixed by way of the linear translatable coupler to an external surface of the base or to an underside portion of the base working surface.
A linear translatable coupler is affixed to the base and to the proximal end of the arm, the translatable coupler adapted for linear translation laterally with respect to the base.
An extended working surface is positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm. The extended working surface can be substantially the same height as a height of the working surface of the base or can be positioned or positionable above or below the height of the base working surface.
An adjustable coupler has a portion affixed to the distal end of the arm and a portion affixed to the extended working surface and is movable in response to a force applied by a user for moving the extended working surface relative to the arm. The adjustable coupler can be a rotational coupler configured for providing an angular movement of the extended working surface relative to the arm. The adjustable coupler can be configured for providing lateral travel or movement of the extended working surface parallel to the base and the lateral translation of the linear translatable coupler.
An extension coupler can be positioned within the base cavity and be configured for slidably coupling the linear translatable coupler and the arm for providing extension movement or translation of the arm into and out of the orifice for adjusting the amount of extension of the arm beyond the front of the base. In other embodiments, the extension coupler can be attached to the extended working surface and the adjustable coupler and configured for slidably coupling the extended working surface relative to the distal end of the arm for providing extension movement of extended working surface relative to the base working surface.
A rotational coupler can be positioned with the extended working surface and the adjustable coupler and configured for rotatably coupling the extended working surface relative to the distal end of the arm for providing angular movement of the extended working surface relative to the arm.
One or more locking mechanism for selectively fixing the lateral and extended position of the arm relative to the base and/or working surface relative to the arm. These locking mechanisms can include any type of locking mechanism including those with pins, notches, slots or otherwise that can at least temporarily lock a position of translatable and/or moving components.
Any of these couplers can include one or more rail assembly having mating rails that are slidably coupled together. In other embodiments, a rail can be mated with one or more rollers for providing the linear translations or movements such as extended translations TEXT and lateral translations TLAT.

Adjustable coupler 22A includes rails 30 and mating and slidably engaging rails 32, coupled between the arm 18 and the extended working surface 16 for providing variable extension translation TEXT of various distances of the extended working surface 16 from the base working surface 14. Adjustable coupler 22B is a turntable 34 that couples the extended working surface 16 to the arm in a flexible and/or adjustable angular translation TR position relative to the arm 18 and about the pivot point P. In this manner, the arm 18 can move laterally in relation to the base working surface 14, the extended working surface 16 can move in and out in a variable extension positioned relative to the front of the base 12 and the extended working surface 16 can be deflected or translated angularly with respect to the arm 18 and therefore to the base 12 and the base working surface 14 to provide customizable positioning of the extended working surface 16 by a user.
Additionally, one or more of the lateral, extended or rotary couplers can include a locking mechanism, such a pin, a notch, a latch or rib, or otherwise, for selectively and/or temporarily maintaining the position of the arm 18 and/or the extended working surface 16.
As shown by the above exemplary embodiments, a dental cabinet as described herein can improve the customization of the working surface and working environment for dental personnel.

Claims
1. A cabinet assembly for a dental office comprising:
- a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments;
- an arm having a proximal end and a distal end, the distal end extending beyond the front of the base;
- a linear translatable coupler affixed to the base and to the proximal end of the arm, the translatable coupler adapted for linear translation laterally with respect to the base;
- an extended working surface positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm; and
- an adjustable coupler having a portion affixed to the distal end of the arm and a portion affixed to the extended working surface, the adjustable coupler being movable in response to a force applied by a user for moving the extended working surface relative to the arm.
2. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the extended working surface is substantially the same height as a height of the working surface of the base.
3. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the base includes an orifice positioned beneath the base working surface and wherein the linear translatable coupler is positioned within the cavity and the arm is adapted for extending from within the cavity through the orifice to beyond the front of the base.
4. The cabinet assembly of claim 3 wherein the orifice is dimensioned for receiving at least a portion of the extended working surface.
5. The cabinet assembly of claim 3 wherein the orifice is dimensioned for receiving the entire arm and the entire extended working surface, and wherein the arm and the working surface are retractable through the orifice and storage within the compartment.
6. The cabinet assembly of claim 1, further comprising an extension coupler within the base cavity and slidably coupled with the linear translatable coupler and arm combination for providing extension movement of the arm into and out of the orifice for adjusting the amount of extension of the arm beyond the front of the base.
7. The cabinet assembly of claim 6 wherein the adjustable coupler is a rotational coupler configured for providing an angular movement of the extended working surface relative to the arm.
8. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the adjustable coupler is configured for providing lateral travel or movement of the extended working surface parallel to the base and the lateral translation of the linear translatable coupler.
9. The cabinet assembly of claim 8, further comprising an extension coupler attached to the extended working surface and the adjustable coupler, the extension coupler configured for slidably coupling the extended working surface relative to the distal end of the arm for providing extension movement of the extended working surface relative to the base working surface.
10. The cabinet assembly of claim 9, further comprising a rotational coupler positioned with the extended working surface and the adjustable coupler, the rotational coupler configured for rotatably coupling the extended working surface relative to the distal end of the arm for providing angular movement of extended working surface relative to the arm.
11. The cabinet assembly of claim 8, further comprising a rotational coupler positioned with the extended working surface and the adjustable coupler, the rotational coupler configured for rotatable coupling the extended working surface relative to the distal end of the arm for providing angular movement of the extended working surface relative to the arm.
12. The cabinet assembly of claim 1, further comprising a rotational coupler positioned with the extended working surface and the adjustable coupler, the rotational coupler configured for rotatably coupling the extended working surface relative to the distal end of the arm for providing angular movement of extended working surface relative to the arm.
13. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the linear translatable coupler includes a locking mechanism for selectively fixing the position of the arm relative to the base.
14. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the adjustable coupler includes a locking mechanism for selectively fixing the position of the extended working surface relative to the arm.
15. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the adjustable coupler is configured for adjusting the lateral position of the extended working surface relative to the arm and parallel to the lateral translation of the linear translatable coupler.
16. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the linear translatable coupler includes a rail assembly.
17. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the adjustable coupler includes a rail assembly.
18. The cabinet assembly of claim 1 wherein the adjustable coupler includes a turntable assembly.
19. A dental cabinet assembly comprising:
- a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments;
- an extended working surface positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm; and
- means for providing linear translation of the extended working surface relative to the working surface of the base.
20. The dental cabinet assembly of claim 19, further comprising:
- means for providing lateral translation of the extended working surface relative to the working surface of the base.
21. A dental cabinet assembly comprising:
- a base having a front, a right side and a left side, a base working surface, a cavity within the base, and one or more storage compartments;
- an extended working surface positioned beyond the front of the base and coupled to the distal end of the arm; and
- means for providing angular translation of the extended working surface relative to the working surface of the base.
22. The dental cabinet assembly of claim 21, further comprising:
- means for providing lateral translation of the extended working surface relative to the working surface of the base.
