Abstract

A first aspect of the present invention is a method of enhancing sleep accommodations for a guest. The method includes providing a synthetic sheet and placing the synthetic sheet in a bed for the guest whereby the synthetic sheet can be discarded upon the guest entering the bed.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to the hotel service industry and more particularly to a method of enhancing sleep accommodations for a guest.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

Most hotels are conscientious in attending to everyday laundering of bedding such as sheets and pillowcases. Hotels, and even smaller establishments such as motels or bed-and-breakfasts, require laundry facilities on the premises of a size and scope capable of handling the demands of the particular establishment. The costs associated with laundry facilities can factor in significantly to the hotel's operational costs. These costs include the original purchase or lease price of the washers and dryers and other equipment, regular maintenance costs, the cost of laundry detergents and other cleaning supplies such as softeners and static removers, the cost of hot water, water, and power to run the machines, and also the various labor costs associated with the operation that includes significant time and labor in laundering bedspreads as these are currently designed. Another significant cost aspect is the increased inventory required for replacement bedspreads or while soiled bedspreads are awaiting laundering.

With all of the above-described costs associated with the laundering of bedding, it is important that the cleanliness of the bedding be evident to the person using the bed. The present invention addresses this need.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

A first aspect of the present invention is a method of enhancing sleep accommodations for a guest. The method includes providing a synthetic sheet and placing the synthetic sheet in a bed for the guest whereby the synthetic sheet can be discarded upon the guest entering the bed.

Other aspects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, illustrating by way of example the principles of the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

As shown in the drawings for purposes of illustration, a method of enhancing the sleep accommodations for a guest is disclosed. The following description is presented to enable one of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention and is provided in the context of a patent application and its requirements. Various modifications to the embodiments and the generic principles and features described herein will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art. Thus, the present invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiment shown but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the principles and features described herein.

In an embodiment, a fragrance sheet is placed in the bed of a perspective hotel guest. This allows a pleasant fragrance to be transmitted, albeit temporarily, from sheet the bed linen(s). Upon entering the bed, the fragrance sheet is removed by the guest whereby the fragrance from the sheet lingers in the bed linen(s). Accordingly, the transmitted fragrance allows the cleanliness of the bed linen(s) to be readily apparent to the guest thereby enhancing her sleeping experience.

FIG. 1 is a flowchart of a method in accordance with an embodiment. A first step 101 involves providing a fragrance sheet. A next step 102 involves placing the fragrance sheet in a bed for the guest whereby the fragrance sheet can be discarded upon the guest entering the bed. Again, by implementing this method, the cleanliness of the bed linens is readily apparent to the guest thereby enhancing her sleeping experience.

For the purposes of this patent application, a fragrance sheet is a flexible, synthetic sheet with a fragrance-based compound deposited thereon. Preferably, the fragrance-based compound is non-toxic. The sheet can be any of a variety sizes such that the sheet is capable of being inserted into a pillow slip or under a fitted sheet to emit the fragrance.

FIG. 2 is an illustration of a fragrance sheet configuration 200 in accordance with an embodiment. The configuration 200 includes a bed 202, a mattress pad 204, a fitted sheet 206, a fragrance sheet 208 and a bedspread 210. As can be seen, the fitted sheet 206 encloses the mattress pad 204 and the fragrance sheet 208 can be placed in between the fitted sheet 206 and the bedspread 210. Consequently, when the guest is ready to go to bed, she pulls back the bedspread 210 and discards the fragrance sheet 208. A hotel housekeeper can provide a new fragrance sheet 208 at the time the bed 202 is being made up with a fresh fitted sheet 206.

Although the above described embodiment is shown in the context of the fragrance sheet 208 being placed underneath the bedspread 210, it should be noted that the fragrance sheet 208 could also be inserted into a pillow case (not shown) or any other type of bed linen while remaining within the spirit and scope of the present invention.

A method of enhancing the sleep accommodations for a guest has been disclosed. Without further analysis, the foregoing so fully reveals the gist of the present inventive concepts that others can, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt it for various applications without omitting features that, from the standpoint of prior art, fairly constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specific aspects of this invention. Therefore, such applications should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalents of the following claims. Although this invention has been described in terms of certain embodiments, other embodiments that are apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art are also within the scope of this invention, as defined in the claims that follow.

Claims

1. A method of enhancing the sleep accommodations for a guest comprising:

providing a synthetic sheet; and

placing the synthetic sheet in a bed for the guest whereby the synthetic sheet can be discarded upon the guest entering the bed.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the synthetic sheet further comprises a fragrance-based compound deposited thereon.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the bed further comprises a pillow case and placing the synthetic sheet in the bed for the guest further comprises:

placing the synthetic sheet in the pillow case.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the bed further comprises a fitted sheet and bedspread and placing the synthetic sheet in the bed for the guest further comprises:

placing the synthetic sheet in between the bedspread and the fitted sheet.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein the fragrance based compound is non-toxic.
