Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a rail assembly, and more particularly to a rail assembly that is capable of securely and directly hanging on a sidewall without using tools.

2. Description of the Related Art

Conventional rails are securely mounted between cabinets and drawers with screws and have normally been assembled before furniture been sold. Thus, buyers do not need to worry about assembling problems of rails for these finished-furniture. However, the finished-furniture is gradually replaced by Ready-to-Assemble (RTA) furniture since the RTA furniture is convenient in use and reduces manufacturing, transport and storage costs and spaces. However, most of the RTA furniture still need tools when assembling, especially for mounting metal parts on wooden plates, such as mounting rails on inner surfaces of a cabinet. However, mounting the rail on the inner surface of a cabinet at precise locations to make drawer runs smoothly is not easy for a person who is not skilled in assembling furniture, since the rail is long and heavy but is not easy to leveled on a desired location when using screws to mount the rail assembly on a surface.

The present invention provides a rail assembly to obviate or mitigate the shortcomings of the conventional rail.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a rail assembly to improve ease of assembling the rail assembly.

The rail assembly has a bracket, a base, a rail body and at least one bolt. The bracket is securely mounted on a surface of a furniture and has a top surface, a fastening tab protruding from the top surface and at least one fixing hole. The fixing hole is formed through the fastening tab. The base is mounted and supported on the bracket and has a bottom surface, a mounting tab protruding from the bottom surface of the base and at least one mounting hole, wherein the bottom surface and the mounting tab correspond to the top surface and the fastening tab. The mounting hole is formed through the mounting tab. The rail body is securely mounted on the base.

Other objectives, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a rail assembly in accordance with the present invention being mounted on a surface;

FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of a bracket of the rail assembly in FIG. 1;

FIG. 3 is an exploded perspective view of a base and a rail body of the rail assembly in FIG. 1;

FIG. 4 is an operational perspective view of the rail assembly in FIG. 4; and

FIG. 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the rail assembly in FIG. 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, a rail assembly in accordance with the present invention comprises a bracket (10), a base (20), a rail body (30) and at least one bolt (40).

The bracket (10) may be formed by plastic, wood or the like, may be a rectangular or a multi-facets straight bar and has an inner surface, an outer surface, a top surface (11) and a fastening tab (12).

The inner surface of the bracket (10) is mounted on a surface (50) of a furniture.

The outer surface is opposite to the inner surface.

The fastening tab (12) protrudes from the top surface (11) of the bracket (10) and has at least one fixing hole (122) and a cross-section.

Each fixing hole (122) is formed through the fastening tab (12).

The cross-section of the fastening tab (12) may be a trapezoid having a first slope side. The first slope side faces to the surface (50) when the bracket (10) being mounted on the surface (50).

The base (20) is mounted and supported on the bracket (10), may be formed by plastic, wood or the like, may be a rectangular or a multi-facets straight bar and has a bottom surface (21), an inner surface, an outer surface and an attaching tab (22).

The bottom surface (21) corresponds to the top surface (11) and the fastening tab (12) of the bracket (10) and may be supported on the top surface (11) and the fastening tab (12) when the base (20) is mounted on the bracket (10).

The inner face is attached to the surface (50) of the furniture after the bottom surface (21) is detachably mounted on the top surface (11) of the bracket (10).

The attaching tab (22) protrudes from the bottom surface (21), corresponds to and abuts with the top surface (11) and the fastening tab (12) of the bracket (10), is mounted between the fastening tab (12) and the surface (50) and has at least one mounting hole (222) and a cross-section.

Each mounting hole (222) corresponds to one fixing hole (122) and is formed though the attaching tab (22).

The cross-section of the attaching tab (22) may be a trapezoid having a second slope side. The second slope side of the attaching tab (22) abuts with the first slope side of the fastening tab (12).

The rail body (30) corresponds to and is securely mounted on the outer surface of the base (20).

Each bolt (40) has a rugged body (42) and a head being coaxially mounted on the rugged body (42).

The rugged body (42) is securely mounted into the corresponding fixing hole (122) and mounting hole (222) to hold the base (20) on the bracket (10) in position and may be threaded or may be formed by multiple hooking rings formed on the rugged body (42).

Take a Ready-to-assemble (RTA) desk as an example, the RTA desk may have a desk body and a drawer. The drawer is slidably mounted on the desk body with the rail assembly in accordance with the present invention. When a person buys a RTA desk, he/she can get the desk body with assembled bracket (10) mounted thereon and the base (20) with rail body (30) securely mounted on the base (20). Therefore, it is only to place the base (20) with the rail body (30) onto the bracket (10) and then to insert the bolt (40) into the corresponding fixing hole (122) and mounting hole (222) to securely hold the base (20) on the bracket (10) without using any tool.

Even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only. Changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
