Cabinet-shaped piece of furniture

A cabinet-shaped piece of furniture having a folding lid (2) with two lid parts (3, 4) which are arranged one above the other. The upper lid part (3) is pivotally hinged to the body (1) of the piece of furniture, and the lower lid part (4) is pivotally [hinged] to the upper lid part (3). The axis of rotation (13) between the two lid parts (3, 4) lies in the region of the wall thickness (5) of the lid parts (3, 4). The distance of the instantaneous centre of rotation (20) of the lower lid part (4) from the lower edge (16) of the lower lid (4), when the folding lid (2) is closed, amounts to 25% of the height (h) of the lower lid part (4).

Description

The invention relates to a cabinet-shaped piece of furniture having a folding lid with two lid parts which are arranged one above the other and which are substantially equal in respect of height, wherein the upper lid part is pivotally hinged to the body of the piece of furniture and the lower lid part is pivotally hinged to the upper lid part.

The invention also relates to a cabinet-shaped piece of furniture having a folding lid with two lid parts which are arranged one above the other and which are substantially equal in respect of height, wherein the upper lid part is pivotally hinged to the body of the piece of furniture and the lower lid part is pivotally hinged to the upper lid part, having an actuating arm which is mounted to a side wall of the piece of furniture and which communicates by way of an axis of rotation with the lower lid part, and further having a handle provided on the lower lid part for opening the folding lid.

The aim of the invention is to improve a cabinet-shaped piece of furniture of the kind mentioned in the introduction in such a way that folding up the folding lid is made easier.

The problem according to the invention is solved in that the axis of rotation between the two lid parts lies in the region of the wall thickness of only one of the two lid parts.

One embodiment of the invention provides that the handle is disposed below the axis of rotation communicating the actuating arm with the lower lid part, and the handle is formed by the lower edge of the lower lid part.

In the following an embodiment of the invention is described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a diagram of a piece of furniture with opened folding lid,

FIG. 2 is a diagram of a piece of furniture with closed folding lid,

FIG. 3 is a side view of a piece of furniture with two lid parts in the closed position,

FIG. 4 is the cut-out region denoted A in FIG. 3,

FIG. 5 is a diagrammatical side view of a piece of furniture with open lid parts, and

FIG. 6 is the cut-out region denoted A in FIG. 5.

Each of the drawings shows a cabinet having a furniture body 1, the front of which is covered over by a folding lid 2. The folding lid 2 consists of two lid parts 3, 4. The upper lid part 3 is fixed to the floor 5 of the body 1 of the piece of furniture by means of hinges 18, and the lower lid part 4 is fixed to the upper lid part 3. The lower lid part 4 is hinged close to its lower edge to actuating arms 6 of actuating members 7 for the piece of furniture which are fitted to the side walls 8 of the piece of furniture. In the embodiment shown, the lid parts 3, 4 are connected together by means of hinges 9.

The hinges 9 are designed as single axis hinges and have a hinge arm 10 and a hinge cup 11 in the conventional way. In the embodiment shown, the hinge cup 11 is placed inside the upper lid part 3, and the hinge arm 10 is mounted to the lower lid part 4. The reverse arrangement would be equally as good.

In the embodiment shown, a base 12 is formed on the hinge arm 10, which, when the folding lid 2 is closed, bears against the upper lid part 3. The base 12 prevents the lid parts 3, 4 from buckling inwardly when the folding lid 2 is closed.

The axis 13 of the hinge which forms the axis of rotation for the two lid parts 3, 4 lies in the region of the wall thickness S of the lid parts 3, 4, i.e. it is disposed inside the lid part 3. A gripping member 15 is secured close to the lower edge 16 of the lower lid part 4, the gripping member forming a handle for opening the folding lid 2. The handle for opening the folding lid 2 could also be formed directly by the lower edge 16, wherein the lower lid part 4 would have to project beyond the floor 17 of the body 1 of the piece of furniture.

Claims

1. A cabinet-shaped piece of furniture having a folding lid with two lid parts which are arranged one above the other and which are substantially equal in respect of height, wherein the upper lid part is pivotally hinged to the body of the piece of furniture and the lower lid part is pivotally hinged to the upper lid part, wherein the axis of rotation between the two lid parts lies in the region of the wall thickness of only one of the two lid parts.

2. A cabinet-shaped piece of furniture according to claim 1, wherein arranged between the two lid parts is at least one hinge with a hinge arm and a hinge cup, wherein the hinge arm is arranged on the one lid part, and the hinge cup is placed inside the other lid part.

3. A cabinet-shaped piece of furniture having a folding lid with two lid parts which are arranged one above the other and which are substantially equal in respect of height, wherein the upper lid part is pivotally hinged on the body of the piece of furniture, and the lower lid part is pivotally hinged to the upper lid part, having an actuating arm which is mounted to a side wall of the piece of furniture and which communicates by way of an axis of rotation with the lower lid part, and further having a handle provided on the lower lid part for opening the folding lid, wherein the handle is disposed below the axis of rotation connecting the actuating arm with the lower lid part, and that the handle is formed by the lower edge of the lower lid part.
