Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to “Self Activated Power Brake”.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The existing power brakes in automobiles, industries, railways etc. are activated by externally generated power through electric motor, hydraulic pump, air compressor or some other means. The power brake system is needed to assist or ease the driver of the vehicle or operator of the machine, as it requires a lot of power to stop any heavy moving object. This existing facility increases cost like the cost of electric motor, hydraulic pump or air compressor and running cost of the system too. In every braking system in a machine external force is required to stop or slow down the rotating wheel or any part of the machine, making the system as a whole more complicated and bulky.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION

Object of this invention is to obviate the above drawbacks by providing a “Self Activated Power Brake”.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

To achieve the said objective, this invention provides A Self Activated Power Brake comprising:

    • a rotating disk/drum coaxially fitted to a wheel,
    • a housing to hold brake shoes of a brake in a fixed position with respect to the rotating disk/drum,
    • a brake pedal system to transmit motion generated by hand or foot to at least one actuating pilot caliper,
    • said pilot caliper is attached to at least one actuating mechanism, which actuates said brake shoes.

The actuating mechanism comprising:

    • at least one linkage mechanism to link said pilot caliper to at least one transmitting means so that force from pilot caliper can be transmitted to said transmitting means,
    • said transmitting means to apply force on at least one engaging means,
    • at least one engaging means to engage said brake shoes to said rotating disk/drum when force is applied.

The pilot caliper comprising:

    • at least one engaging brake shoe to engage to said rotating, disk/drum when motion is transmitted from said brake pedal system,
    • a movable holding frame to hold said engaging brake shoes.

The brake is a disc brake, a drum brake, a hydraulic brake, a pneumatic brake or a railway mechanical brake.

The linkage mechanism is either a mechanical link or a sliding piston arrangement.

The transmitting means is at least one lever system or at least one V shaped slot or at least one master cylinder hydraulic system.

The engaging means is at least one sliding piston arrangement or at least one V shaped protrusion or at least one hydraulic sliding piston arrangement.

The actuating mechanism is of oval shape so that when said pilot caliper engages to said drum brake, said oval shaped actuating mechanism tilts and engages the brake shoes by at least one mechanical means (E5).

The actuating mechanism is of eye shape so that when said pilot caliper engages to said drum brake, said eye shaped actuating mechanism tilts and engages the brake shoes by hydraulic means (E6).

The pilot caliper engages to said disc brake and actuates said linkage mechanism, which further transmits force to said transmitting means so that it enables the engaging means to engage the brake shoes to said rotating disk/drum.
