A pillow for rest and sleep, that maintains anatomic relations of the head and neck aligned with the body in any lying positions, is constructed comprising a center valley and side ridges that provide a pleasant firmness.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a pillow for rest or sleep during day and night. More particularly the present invention relates to a pillow that provides maximal comfortness for resting of head and neck when lying down. The present invention relates to the Medical, Surgical and Orhtopedics fields as well as for daily life and leisure for everybody.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

It is a common knowledge that we spend one third of our lives in bed, so it only makes sense to make those hours as comfortable and healthy as possible. To achieve that a bed pillow is required to be just right for every person and every position of sleep. A visit to the pillow department in the local store may leave any one stunned by the number of choices. Therefore to make sense of the product of choice the following steps need to be considered in order to choose the appropriate and comfortable pillow.

Size.

The first and easiest decision is the pillow size. The main two common sizes are: standard and king, with a few manufacturers also offering queen. Besides the obvious match to the bed size, also one needs to consider the personal preference. King pillows can be long and unwieldy and some may prefer using standard pillows instead, even on a king bed.

Sleeping Posture.

One of the main functions of a bed pillow is to support the head and keep the spine as straight as possible. Back sleepers therefore will need fairly flat pillows while side sleepers should have something more substantial that will support their head. Since most people turn during sleep the pillow needs to adjust for both side and back sleepers.

Fillings.

Next, the type of pillow filling of preference should be considered. Either a pillow that can be squished around to suit current mood (a down pillow may be perfect) or rather have a firm foam pillow that won't shift during the night. Some pillows are also made using a combination of fillings such as a down wrapped core of foam to name a few.

Firmness.

The firmness of a pillow depends on how much filling it contains. The choice of firmer pillow is for side sleepers and a flatter, softer for sleeper face down. In fact, no pillow will last indefinitely. Foam tends to break down after two years or so while a good quality down pillow can last up to ten years.

Covers.

Pillow covers and pillow cases will give additional protection to the pillow and its filling and lessen the need for pillow cleaning. An important role or the cover is to avoid or absorb sweating.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention provides a pillow for rest and sleep that maintains the anatomic posture of the head and neck while lying down in any position, and fits everybody requirements through a special design, structure, modularity and firmness.

Technical Description and Method of Use

Design and Structure. The OrthoAnatomic (OrthoPosture) pillow configuration comprises of a centered wide valley to fit the back of the head, bordered by a steep ridge on either side left and right of the valley and a shallow hill at the upper and lower sides of the valley to fit for the back of the neck.

Firmness. Firmness of the pillow aims at providing for filling up the space between the head and bed (or mattress or floor) and keeping the anatomic posture of the cervical spine in each position of the body, while lying either on the back or sides or face down.

For comfort ness the upper superficial part of the pillow is made of a softer and cooling material as desired for the resting head.

Materials. A variety of natural materials such as down and/or synthetics fiber and/or liquid and/or solid materials such as latex or foam rubber, are used to provide a scale of grades of firmness and softness.

Manufacture. A variety of technological modalities are used such as molding, extrusion and/or combining layers to name a few.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Dimensions. In a preferred embodiment the dimensions of the medium size OrthoAnatomic (OrthoPosture) pillow are specified for length and width and all pertinent dimensions in centimeters in FIGS. 1-4. The centered valley configuration is a trapeze like. The ridges are of a specific configuration. The dimensions of the valley and either ridge are specified for the medium size in FIGS. 3-4. The shallow hill's dimensions of the medium size are specified in FIGS. 3-4.

The upper side dimensions of the medium size of the centered valley and steep ridges are specified in FIGS. 3-4.

Materials. Fine synthetic fibers such as so called fiberballs.

Manufacture. The entire pillow is made by filling of the appropriate prepared compartments.

Other Embodiments Comprise:

1. Modular increments of the dimensions either symmetric or non-symmetric.

2. Sophisticated materials such as Tempur or combination of materials such as Latex, foam rubber, fibers and Viscous.

3. Manufacturing by a variety of filling materials such as fiber, fibrils, spheres and alike.

4. Manufacturing by layers that are laid free or adhered e.g. by compressing, glued or alike.

5. Manufacturing by a combined modalities e.g. extrusion, molding, layers and filling.

It is appreciated that certain features of the invention, which are, for clarity, described in the context of separate embodiments, may also be provided in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features of the invention which are, for brevity, described in the context of a single embodiment, may also be provided separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

It will be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the present invention is not limited to what has been particularly shown and described hereinabove. Rather the scope of the present invention is defined by the appended claims and includes both combinations and sub-combinations of the various features described hereinabove as well as variations and modifications thereof which would occur to persons skilled in the art upon reading the foregoing description.

Claims

1. A pillow as described and figured comprising of:

(a) A special design and configuration of a center wide valley to fit the back of the head, bordered by a steep ridge each on either side of the valley and a shallow hill on the upper and lower sides of the valley to fit for the back of the neck.
(b) Designed to maintain anatomic posture of cervical spine in every position of the lying body.
(c) Materials to fit firmness of the configuration and provide comfort ness.
(d) Manufacturing methods to fit the special configuration and firmness of the pillow.
