BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION1. Field of the Invention
A pedestal vanity for mounting adjacent to an existing pedestal sink for providing a home owner with additional space for accommodating storage.
2. Description of Background Art
Many half baths (powder rooms) and bathrooms have one or more pedestal lavatories which limit the amount of storage capacity in the bathroom.
SUMMARY AND OBJECTS OF THE INVENTIONIn order to alleviate the inconvenience caused by the use of a pedestal in a half bath or bathroom, the present invention was conceived and developed for a pedestal vanity cabinet.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, a pedestal vanity includes a cabinet having an upper surface with an aperture in the upper surface for accommodating a pedestal of an existing sink. A storage space is disposed below the upper surface.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the cabinet includes a base member with an upwardly projecting left side wall and an upwardly projecting right side wall that form a front opening. The upwardly projecting left side wall and upwardly projecting right side wall extending upwardly from the base member and are connected to the upper surface.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, at least one door is positioned to close the front opening for providing a closure for the storage space.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the aperture is a substantially semi-circular aperture for accommodating the pedestal of an existing sink to provide a predetermined space for enabling the upper surface to be disposed directly below a bowl of the pedestal of an existing sink.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, a rearwardly extending opening is formed to mate with the substantially semi-circular aperture for extending the aperture in the upper surface to project rearwardly for enabling the upper surface to engage a wall surface while the aperture accommodates the pedestal of an existing sink.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the base member is designed to be seated directly on a floor surface.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the base member includes four corners and further includes adjusting members disposed adjacent to each of the four corners for leveling the pedestal vanity relative to a floor surface.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the base member includes four corners and further includes legs disposed adjacent to each of the four corners for adjusting a height of the pedestal vanity relative to a bowl of an existing sink.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given hereinbelow and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein:
The pedestal vanity 10 includes a cabinet having an upper surface 16 with an aperture 18 cut into the upper surface 16 for accommodating a pedestal 11 portion of an existing sink 12 that includes a sink bowl 13.
A storage space 20 is disposed below the upper surface 16 and is formed by a base member 22, an upwardly projecting left side wall 24 and an upwardly projecting right side wall 26. A front opening is formed by the base member 22, the upwardly projecting left side wall 24 and upwardly projecting right side wall 26 that is closed by doors 42, 44. The upwardly projecting left side wall 24 and upwardly projecting right side wall 26 extending upwardly from the base member 22 and are connected to the upper surface 16.
The doors 42, 44 include handles 46, 48 for permitting an individual to open the front of the pedestal vanity 10 to gain access to and to provide a closure for the storage space 20.
As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 3-5, the aperture 18 is a substantially semi-circular aperture 18c for accommodating the pedestal 11 of an existing sink 12 to provide a predetermined space for enabling the upper surface 16 to be disposed directly below a bowl 13 of the pedestal 11 of an existing sink 12. The aperture 18 includes a rearwardly extending sections 18a, 18b that form an enlarged opening. The rearwardly extending sections 18a, 18b are formed to mate with the substantially semi-circular aperture 18c for extending the aperture 18 in the upper surface 16 to project rearwardly for enabling the upper surface 16 to engage a wall surface while the aperture accommodates the pesdestal 11 of an existing sink 12.
As illustrated in
As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 3-6, the pedestal vanity 10 may include the base member 22 with four corners and further including legs 31-34 disposed adjacent to each of the four corners for adjusting a height of the pedestal vanity relative to a bowl 13 of an existing sink 12. As illustrated in
As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 3-6, the pedestal vanity may include at least three members adapted to be attached to each other for enabling an adjustment in the height of the pedestal vanity 10 relative to a bowl 13 of an existing sink 12.
As illustrated in broken lines in
The present invention is directed to a pedestal vanity 10 for mounting adjacent to an pedestal 11 of an existing sink 12 for accommodating various sizes and shapes of a variety of pedestal lavatories. As illustrated in
The pedestal vanity 10 can be made with a single or with multiple doors 42, 44 or drawers and may include an adjustable interior shelf 23. The pedestal vanity 10 may be constructed with either an interior panel to hide the pedestal leg 11. In the alternative, for more storage the interior of the pedestal vanity 10 may be open to reveal the pedestal leg 11.
The pedestal vanity 10 has been developed to be shipped to the customer in one of two configurations:
1. Ready to assemble (RTA); or
2. Shipped assembled.
While the overall design and configuration of the pedestal vanity 10 remains virtually the same in all configurations, the door panel/panels 42, 44 and colors can be altered to give the homeowner the look and appearance that matches their bathroom and house décor.
The pedestal vanity 10 can be manufactured in a myriad of widths to accommodate almost any bathroom size but the height and depth have been carefully calibrated to work in unison with most pedestal lavatories on the market.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the following claims.
