TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to bibs for children.

BACKGROUND ART OF THE INVENTION

For generations, parents have put bibs on infants and young children during mealtimes. The bibs help absorb the inevitable spills and spit-ups that accompany feeding very young children. Bibs for this purpose are often made of an absorbent fabric. Other bibs are made of liquid-impermeable materials, but may include pouches at the bottom to collect runny spills. Most of the bibs are decorated on a front side with images thought to be pleasing to infants and young children, such as bears, clowns, trucks, Disney (characters, or simply bright colors and shapes. The back sides are generally substantially blank.

Mealtimes for infants and young children are not only messy, they can also be dangerous. Infants, who lack practice eating and often lack teeth, can try to swallow bites that are too large for them, sometimes leading to choking. This is especially likely when the person feeding the child is not the parent and, thus, is less familiar with the appropriate bite size for the child. Many adults are unfamiliar with proper first-aid procedures for a choking child. This is also especially likely in this case of an adult who is not the child's parent.

What is needed is instructions for infant and young child first-aid procedures in a place that is easily accessible while the child is being fed.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Disclosed herein is a bib printed with instructions for first-aid procedures.

In one embodiment of the disclosed bib, the bib is a configured to be affixed to a child at mealtimes.

In another embodiment of the disclosed bib, the instructions for first-aid procedures are for first-aid procedures to be performed on children.

In a further embodiment of the disclosed bib, the bib comprises a front side and a back side; the front side is decorated with images desirable for children; and the instructions for first-aid procedures are printed on the back side.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to FIG. 1, reference number 100 refers to a bib. Bib 100 preferably comprises straps 102a and 102b configured to reach around a neck (not shown) of a person (not shown) wearing bib 100. Straps 102a and 102b are preferably removably attachable to each other. Most preferably, the attachment is via hook and loop fasteners. In FIG. 1, a hook portion 104a of a hook and loop fastener is shown attached to a terminal end 106a of strap 102a. Likewise, in FIG. 2, a loop portion 104b of a hook and loop fastener is shown attached to a terminal end 106b of strap 102b. However, many other attachment methods are known and may be used.

Referring again to FIG. 1, front surface 110 of bib 100 is preferably made from a material designed to absorb at least some of any liquid or runny mess spilled on front surface 110, such as cotton cloth. Alternatively, front surface 110 can be made of a liquid resistant material, such as vinyl, in which case front surface 110 preferably also comprises at pocket (not shown) at a bottom edge 112. Front surface 110 is preferably decorated with artwork 108 of a type targeted for children.

FIG. 2 shows a rear surface 210 of bib 100. Rear surface 210 is preferably printed with instructions 204 for performing first-aid procedures. Most preferably, instructions 204 are for performing anti-choking procedures, such as the Heimlich maneuver, on infants and young children.

FIG. 3 is a flow chart of instructions of the type that may be used as instructions 204 printed on Rear surface 110. Alternatively, other instructions for other first aid procedures may be used, and the instructions may be presented in any format.

Though the description of the invention has included description of one or more embodiments and certain variation and modifications, other variations and modifications are within the scope of the invention, e.g., as may be within the skill and knowledge of those in the art, after understanding the present disclosure. Claims

1. A safety bib comprising: a bib printed with instructions for one or more first-aid procedure.

2. The safety bib of claim 1 wherein the bib is configured to be affixed to a child at mealtimes.

3. The safety bib of claim 1 wherein the instructions for the one or more first-aid procedure are for one or more first-aid procedure for children.

4. The safety bib of claim 1 wherein:

the bib comprises a front side and a back side;

the front side is decorated with themes, depictions, or characters generally associated with children;

the instructions for the one or more first-aid procedure are printed on the back side.
