Security Line Designation Apparatus

A security line designation apparatus includes a housing that has a top wall, a bottom wall and a perimeter wall being attached to and extending between the top and bottom walls. A spindle is rotatably mounted within the housing. An elongated flexible panel is attached to the spindle. The panel extends through an aperture in the perimeter wall and the panel has a free end positioned outside of the housing. The spindle is rotationally biased in a first direction. The panel is wound onto the spindle when the spindle is rotated in the first direction. The panel has indicia thereon indicating persons are to remain away from an area bordered by the panel. A biasing member biases rotation of the spindle in the first direction. A coupler releasably couples the free end to the housing.

Description
BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

1. Field of the Disclosure

The disclosure relates to security border devices and more particularly pertains to a new security border device for cordoning off an area which is restricted to selected persons.

SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a housing that has a top wall, a bottom wall and a perimeter wall being attached to and extending between the top and bottom walls. A spindle is rotatably mounted within the housing. An elongated flexible panel is attached to the spindle. The panel extends through an aperture in the perimeter wall and the panel has a free end positioned outside of the housing. The spindle is rotationally biased in a first direction. The panel is wound onto the spindle when the spindle is rotated in the first direction. The panel has indicia thereon indicating persons are to remain away from an area bordered by the panel. A biasing member biases rotation of the spindle in the first direction. A coupler releasably couples the free end to the housing.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new security border device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the security line designation apparatus 10 generally comprises a housing 12 that has a top wall 14, a bottom wall 16 and a perimeter wall 18 that is attached to and extends between the top 14 and bottom 16 walls.

A spindle 20 is rotatably mounted within the housing 12. An elongated flexible panel 22 is attached to the spindle 20. The panel 22 extends through an aperture 24 in the perimeter wall 18 and the panel 22 has a free end 26 positioned outside of the housing 12. The spindle 20 is rotationally biased in a first direction. The panel 22 is wound onto the spindle 20 when the spindle 20 is rotated in the first direction. The panel 22 has indicia 28 thereon indicating persons are to remain away from an area bordered by the panel 22. The indicia 28 may include indicia typically used for police tape type bordering devices. A biasing member 30 biases rotation of the spindle 20 in the first direction. The biasing member 30 is spring wound around an axle 32 and coupled to the spindle 20 and the axle 32.

A coupler 34 is releasably couples the free end 26 to the housing 12. The coupler 34 includes a first mating member 36 that is attached to the free end 26 and a second mating member 38 that is attached to the perimeter wall 18. The first mating member 36 is releasably engageable with the second mating member 38. The first mating member 36 may comprise a male coupler vertically slidable into the second mating member 38 which may comprise a female coupler to prevent lateral disengagement of the male coupler from the female coupler.

A locking member 40 is removably extendable through the first 36 and second 38 mating members to prevent disengagement of the first mating member 36 from the second mating member 38. The locking member 40 extends through aligned openings 42 of the first 36 and second 38 mating members. A mounting member 44 is attached to the housing 12 and is mountable to a support 46 with the mounting member 44. The mounting member comprises a strap that has first 47 and second 48 sections each attached to the housing 12. The first 47 and second 48 sections are releasably attachable together with a fastener 50 such as a buckle. At least one of the first 47 and second 48 sections may have an adjustable length.

In use, the housing 12 is attached to a support 46 and the panel 22 removed from the housing 12 to border an area being cordoned off for security reasons in particular. The panel 22 is attached to the housing 12 with the coupler 34 to prevent the panel 22 from being wound back onto the spindle 20. The apparatus 10 may be utilized as a system using a plurality of the apparatuses 10 coupled together as is shown in FIG. 6. The housing 12 allows the panel 22 to be reused multiple times.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure.

Claims

1. A security line designation apparatus comprising:

a housing having a top wall, a bottom wall and a perimeter wall being attached to and extending between said top and bottom walls;
a spindle being rotatably mounted within said housing;
an elongated flexible panel being attached to said spindle, said panel extending through an aperture in said perimeter wall and said panel having a free end positioned outside of said housing, said spindle being rotationally biased in a first direction, said panel being wound onto said spindle when said spindle is rotated in said first direction, said panel having indicia thereon indicating persons are to remain away from an area bordered by said panel;
a biasing member biasing rotation of said spindle in said first direction; and
a coupler being releasably coupling said free end to said housing.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said coupler includes a first mating member being attached to said free end and a second mating member being attached to said perimeter wall, said first mating member being releasably engageable with said second mating member.

3. The apparatus according to claim 2, further including a locking member being removably extendable through said first and second mating members to prevent disengagement of said first mating member from said second mating member.

4. The apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said locking member extends through aligned openings of said first and second mating members.

5. The apparatus according to claim 1, further including a mounting member being attached to said housing, said housing being mountable to a support with said mounting member.

6. The apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said mounting member comprises a strap having first and second sections each attached to said housing and being releasably attachable together with a fastener.

7. A security line designation apparatus comprising:

a housing having a top wall, a bottom wall and a perimeter wall being attached to and extending between said top and bottom walls;
a spindle being rotatably mounted within said housing;
an elongated flexible panel being attached to said spindle, said panel extending through an aperture in said perimeter wall and said panel having a free end positioned outside of said housing, said spindle being rotationally biased in a first direction, said panel being wound onto said spindle when said spindle is rotated in said first direction, said panel having indicia thereon indicating persons are to remain away from an area bordered by said panel;
a biasing member biasing rotation of said spindle in said first direction;
a coupler being releasably coupling said free end to said housing, said coupler including a first mating member being attached to said free end and a second mating member being attached to said perimeter wall, said first mating member being releasably engageable with said second mating member;
a locking member being removably extendable through said first and second mating members to prevent disengagement of said first mating member from said second mating member, said locking member extending through aligned openings of said first and second mating members; and
a mounting member being attached to said housing, said housing being mountable to a support with said mounting member, said mounting member comprising a strap having first and second sections each attached to said housing and being releasably attachable together with a fastener.
