Knee cushion

The present invention is for a knee cushion. The structure comprises a cushion made of high-density foam that's elastic with inner springs that are attached to the enclosure, a cover to protect the cushion, made of polyester or any other viable material, and a handle on the side. The cushion is there to receive the knees of a user while kneeling. There are springs on each side connected to the enclosure and a handle that gives the knee cushion expandability to open up to twelve inches or more in length and close at six inches in length determining the size of the knee cushion. The width of the knee cushion is six inches.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the invention

This invention relates generally to a pillow or cushion for kneeling and supporting the knees of a user.

2. Description of the related art.

There are many people who have jobs that require them to work on their knees. This position can be uncomfortable on the knees after a prolonged period of kneeling, interfering with the comfort and concentration of the worker. It is known that kneeling on a pad or cushion will alleviate some of the discomfort.

It is however, an object of this invention to provide a cushion for kneeling and for comfort to the knees of the user to make their work more pleasant. It's easy to carry around because it is expandable by the use of springs and elastic foam, and can be carried by the handle.

A number of kneeling apparatus have been proposed over the years to assist the kneeling working and in an effort to alleviate the discomfort associated with the kneeling position of the worker. Among those is U.S. Pat. No. 5,870,774 to Legenstein for strap-on wheeled knee pads for workers who must work on their knees. The knee pads have a hard shell knee pad supported on a plurality of swiveling casters. Another kneeling aid was disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 6,795,974 to Howell for a kneeling pad assembly having an articulated supporting spine assembly with an upper spine member carrying a protected cushioned knee cup and a lower spine member carrying a shin engaging cushion.

Considering the foregoing, a need exists for an improved kneeling apparatus that provides a portable and expandable knee cushion apparatus that allows the user comfort.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The foregoing and other objects are achieved by this invention which provides, in accordance with a first apparatus aspect of the invention, a knee cushion for a user, the kneeling cushion having a cushion formed of high-density foam that bounces back into place after a user gets up from the kneeling position. The cushion is expandable from the foam with springs that are used to open and close the apparatus at the user's desired length. Additionally, a cushion cover made of polyester or any other viable material is arranged to overlie the cushion apparatus.

Other objects will be apparent from the summary description contained herein. In one embodiment of the invention, the resilient cushion material is a filling material.

The filling material is high-density foam that's elastic. The filling material provides shape to the knee cushion, further cushioning for the knees of the user.

In a further embodiment, there are inner springs on each side of the cushion that gives the cushion expandability to open and close.

In accordance with a further apparatus aspect of the invention, there is provided A carrying handle and the enclosure.

The handle can be used for carrying the knee cushion apparatus.

In a further embodiment, the knee cushion of the present invention has a cover that is filled or stuffed with a filling material that is high-density foam. The cover, which may, in some embodiments of the invention, define the shape or configuration of the knee cushion itself, may be of any shape, such as rectangular, square, or circular and may be formed by sewing or attaching a top sheet, or panel, of fabric to a bottom sheet of fabric having the desired configuration, or it may be gusseted as is known in the art so that it has dimensional side portions around the periphery of the knee cushion. The cover can be removable or permanently fixated.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of the knee cushion apparatus of the present invention. The apparatus is comprised of foam 1 springs 2 a handle 3 a cover 4 and the enclosure 5. The interior of the cushion is filled, or stuffed, with a filling material 1 that is high-density foam. The sides are shown having springs 2 that gives the cushion expandability to open up to one foot and close at six inches, determining the size of the knee cushion. There is shown a carrying handle 3 and a cover 4 and the enclosure 5. The handle can be used for carrying by hand for easy mobility. The exterior of the cushion is a cover that is filled or stuffed with a filling material that is a resilient cushion material or high-density foam. The cover, which may, in some embodiments of the invention, define the shape or configuration of the knee cushion itself, may be of any shape, such as rectangular, or square, and may be formed by sewing or attaching a top sheet, or panel, of fabric to a bottom sheet of fabric having the desired configuration, or it may be gusseted as is known in the art so that it has dimensional side portions around the periphery of the knee cushion. The cover can be removable or permanently fixated.

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the present invention in a opened position and is as described as in FIG. 1.

FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the present invention in a closed position. It is thought that the improved kneeling apparatus of the present invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description and it will be apparent that various changes may be making in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts thereof without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form described herein being merely a preferred or exemplary embodiment of the invention.

Claims

1. The kneeling cushion comprising a cushion made of high-density foam that's elastic with inner springs that are attached to the enclosure, and has handle for carrying with a cushion cover made of polyester or any other viable material, arranged to overlie said cushion apparatus.

2. The knee cushion of claim 1, wherein the resilient cushion material is a filling material.

3. The knee cushion of claim 2, wherein the filling material is high-density foam.

4. The knee cushion of claim 1, wherein the cushion apparatus has springs, made of plastic or any other suitable material, on both sides of the foam and attached to the enclosure.

5. The knee cushion of claim 1, wherein the cushion has a cover, made of polyester or any other viable material, arranged to overlie said cushion.

6. The knee cushion of claim 1, wherein the cushion apparatus has a handle.
