Abstract

A putter for putting during a game of golf comprising: a shaft; and a putter head connected to the shaft, where the height of the putter head equals the diameter of a golf ball. The putter head may include either a mallet shape or a cavity back.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a putter design that increases the contact and control available to the golfer.

2. Description of Related Art

The putter is one of a collection of golf clubs used in the sport of golf. A set of golf clubs includes irons and woods that are used to strike the golf ball while in the fairway areas of play. Once the golf ball is hit onto the green golfers utilize the putter to putt the ball into the hole and complete their strokes for a particular hole. The putter is used for shorter distances and has a precise design that increases the effectiveness of use of the putter. Putters have various club head designs and usually have a loft of 5 degrees but in general it is not more than 10 degrees. Some putters also have a bent shaft where the shaft is slightly bent as it comes into close proximity to the club head before placing the club in a straight position to best strike the ball. Also the shaft is positioned near the edge of the club head for visibility purposes. The putters are designed to provide a smooth stroke, a gliding address, solid impact and bounceless top spin ball launch in order to effectively hit and guide the ball to the hole. Some putters have a mallet head while others may include a cavity back head where the striking surface is forward of the cavity back.

Other putter head configurations may include offset putter heads and I-beam constructed putter heads. The center of gravity of many putter heads has been varied in order to provide the golfer with different results based upon the golfer's needs. A substantial amount of designs have addressed the hitting surface of the putter and provided various designs along with loft variations to provide the golfer with other features. The design of putters continue to be an ever evolving, therefore further unknown techniques and designs may be available and needed for golfers to be more effective in their putting.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a putter for putting during a game of golf comprising: a shaft; and a putter head connected to the shaft, where the height of the putter head equals the diameter of a golf ball. The putter head may include either a mallet shape or a cavity back.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to a design for a putter head for use with a golf putter. The head design according to the present invention provides a unique height measurement that helps to provide an improved putter head to give the golfer better control and response upon impact. In accordance with the present invention, the putter design has a height that equals the diameter of a golf ball and therefore improves the ability to strike the ball and to limit any over or under spin that may occur after striking the ball. The putter head design according to the present invention allows the golfer to line up the ball in an improved manner and making it a true line between the putter head and the golf ball. This height requirement according to the present invention is unique from many putters of the prior art where heights may vary and are many times greater than the actual height of the golf ball.

FIG. 1 depicts a Putter 10 in accordance with the present invention. The Putter 10 includes a Head 15 attached to a Shaft 12. A height has been designated for the Putter Head 15 that equals the diameter of a Golf Ball 22. As depicted in FIG. 1 the diameter of Golf Ball “D” is designated as being equal to the height “H” of the Putter Head 15. By equating the height of the putter head with the diameter of the golf ball the present invention creates a True Line Putter that allows a golfer to line up the golf ball with the putter in an improved manner.

The height characteristics of the putter may be implemented on the various styles and designs of putter head designs including mallet heads, standard cavity back putter or any other existing putter head design currently produced. By equating the putter head height with the height of the golf ball the golfer will be able to line up and address the golf ball in an improved manner and reduce the likelihood of spin problems as the ball rolls to the hole. The instant invention has been shown and described in what it considers to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made there from within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.

Claims

1. A putter for putting during a game of golf comprising:

a. a shaft; and

b. a putter head connected to the shaft, where the height of the putter head equals the diameter of a golf ball.

2. The putter according to claim 1, where said putter head includes a mallet shape.

3. The putter according to claim 1, where said putter head includes a cavity back.
