3 way rechargeable heating and cooling units

The present invention provides a product line of solar or battery powered, fully portable space-heaters and air-conditioning units, designed for total portability and especially useful during times when ordinary household electrical service is interrupted. The units are presented in a host of models, styles, and sizes. The product line includes a series of embodiments such as, bi-faced “sandwich-style” heaters, carousel-style cylindrical heaters, floor lamp style cylindrical heaters, a carousel-style cylindrical air-conditioning unit and a shorter, carousel-style air-conditioning unit used aboard school buses. Each of the units is freestanding, ranging between approximately thirty-four and fifty-four inches in height, and generally featuring circumferences of approximately twenty-eight to thirty inches.

CLAIM OF PRIORITY

This patent application claims priority under 35 USC 119 (e) (1) from U.S. Provisional Pat. App. Ser. No. 61/340,972 filed Mar. 25, 2010, of common inventorship herewith entitled, “Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units.”

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention pertains to the field of air temperature regulating devices, and more specifically to the field of portable air temperature regulating devices.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The prior art has put forth several designs for portable air temperature regulating devices. Among these are:

U.S. Pat. No. 2,984,086 to Sidney B. Wertheimer describes a mechanical refrigeration unit adapted to act simultaneously as a food refrigerator, a freezer, and an air conditioner.

U.S. Pat. No. 3,802,216 to Alfred P. Brandimarte describes an air conditioner and heating unit and particularly a portable type wherein the evaporator is contained in one unit and the compressor and condenser in another.

U.S. Pat. No. 6,244,820 to Gursel George Yilmaz describes one or a combination of a cooling unit and a heating unit and a filtering device and a secondary multidirectional fan provides consumers with air quality improvement options for stationary and portable fans.

None of these prior art references describe the present invention.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the present invention to provide a portable air temperature regulating device.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

While space-heaters and portable room air-conditioning units are indispensable appliances in the homes of millions of consumers, these devices always, until now, have depended upon electrical power from a wall outlet, a fact which makes them only partially portable, and useless during a time of power interruption or outage. By equipping these devices with long-life, rechargeable battery packs, both space-heaters and portable room A/C units are completely portable and operable during emergency situations when the power is out.

The present invention, hereinafter referred as Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units, is a product line of battery powered, fully portable space-heaters and air-conditioning units, designed for total portability and especially useful during times when ordinary household electrical service is interrupted. Manufactured by the Electric Fans and Housewares industry, Standard Industrial Code 3694, the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units are presented in a host of models, styles, and sizes. The product line includes a series of embodiments such as, bi-faced “sandwich-style” heaters, carousel-style cylindrical heaters, floor lamp style cylindrical heaters, a carousel-style cylindrical air-conditioning unit and a shorter, carousel-style air-conditioning unit used aboard school buses. Each of the units is freestanding, ranging between approximately thirty-four and fifty-four inches in height, and generally featuring circumferences of approximately twenty-eight to thirty inches. The school bus air-conditioning units are squat in comparison with the home units, measuring eight to ten inches in height and sixteen to eighteen inches in length, for a non-tip, lower center of gravity. The products of the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units line utilize microthermic or micathermic heating, which, when compared to oil-filled space heaters, offer several advantages, micathermic units are lightweight, offer a fifty percent faster heat-up time, and are safer, with a “cool touch” housing and grill. Basically, old-fashioned space-heaters feature a set of metallic coils which heat up due to resistance, and then transfer heat into the air of the room. In contrast, microthermic or micathermic heaters emit electromagnetic energy in the infrared portion of the spectrum, and this energy causes heating only in the objects that receive it. Thus, infrared energy is the most of efficient, direct and stable heat. Radiant heaters are healthier than traditional heaters, because they do not heat the air of the room but instead heat directly the persons and objects. Radiant heaters do not burn oxygen in the room and do not need any air current and yet cause no dehumidification phenomenon. Additionally, micathermic heaters not only emit radiant heat in the most efficient, fast and effective manner, but also offer a safer, no more glowing element to cause fire hazard, more reliable performance. The heaters in the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units line feature motorized rotation or oscillation of the heating panels for even room heating, fire-safe black mesh panels for night-lite dimming, tip-over protection and automatic shut-off, and an overheating fuse for further automatic shutdown and fire prevention. Each of the heaters feature a control panel with a toggle or in another embodiment, button-type On/Off switch, a timer with a variety of Start and Stop intervals, a thermostat control for High and Low settings, and a Low, Medium, and Fast setting control for the carousel/oscillation function. The air-conditioning units are evaporative, fan-equipped cooling units, in which the evaporation of water from a refillable reservoir not only lowers the ambient temperature in the room, but also humidifies and freshens the air. The air-conditioning units, as noted, feature sturdy, non-tip bases, the same long-life batteries, with a planned life of up to twelve months before recharging, refillable two to five gallon water reservoirs and electric cooling fans to send the freshened, cooled air outward to all points of the room or bus. Each of the products in the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units line features the long-life rechargeable batteries, or battery pack, as well as onboard mini-generators.

FIG. 3 shows a front view of the 3-way rechargeable heating unit. This embodiment comprises various components including: a hook at the top for hanging, a solar panel having CIGS technology to power the unit, a control panel having an LED indicator light to indicate power from battery or solar power, mesh screening, a rotating barrel having a fan, a three temperature setting controller and an automatic shut-off, and a timer to start and stop the unit, an electrical outlet on the base for receiving other electrical components such as for charging a cell phone, for example, a battery compartment in the base for receiving the rechargeable battery, an adjustable collar in the vertical post of the unit to adjust the height of the unit.

FIG. 4 shows the internal components of the unit. This includes the barrel which contains the motor, a quiet rotating fan, reflexive heating elements, and a filter at the top.

In an embodiment, the solar panel can be in the form of a parabolic collector, which is removably attached to the unit and can be positioned to point towards the sun to optimize its solar energy collection capability. Also, in an embodiment, a USB recharge port is mounted into the base of the unit. The unit can comprise a control panel, which shows various conditions such as timer, temperature, power source, and fan rotation.

FIGS. 5 and 6 show a 3 way rechargeable cooling unit showing the barrel containing the condensers and cooling coils, condenser fan. This element can be powered by a solar panel or battery, as is described for the heating unit.

The Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units, a product line of fully portable, battery-powered, versatile space-heaters and room air-conditioning units, presents consumers with a wealth of benefits and advantages. Foremost, with the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units, the consumer does not use kerosene, propane, natural gas, or grid-generated electrical power to heat or cool their living space. This fact not only reduces the householder's monthly utility bills, but also frees them from the constraints of cords, hoses, and pipes and allows them to set, and reposition, the heater or air-conditioner to any location they desire. For those living alone on fixed incomes, the ability to take the heat or air-conditioning, easily, from room to room is a great advantage. Further, with their twelve month, long-life, rechargeable batteries or battery pack, the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units are the ideal solution when it comes to preparing for the inevitable power outages that come with storms, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. In such situations when the power grid goes down, householders either rely on a gas-powered emergency generator, devices which pose dangers of their own, or simply “tough it out” without heat or air-conditioning. But a household equipped with the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units have both heat and air-conditioning available to them, at a moment's notice. Presented in a variety of styles, sizes, and models to meet the tastes and needs of today's varying households, the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units are versatile, equally useful for daily heating or cooling and emergency service, even for traveling and camping. And because the Cordless Battery Operated A/C & Heating Units are designed for both economy and portability, these battery-powered appliances find a wide and receptive market among both the consumer households and small businesses.

Although this invention has been described with respect to specific embodiments, it is not intended to be limited thereto and various modifications which will become apparent to the person of ordinary skill in the art are intended to fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as described herein taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and the appended claims.

Claims

1. A portable air temperature heating device, comprising a vertical free-standing device having a control panel having an LED indicator light to indicate power from battery or solar power, a three temperature setting controller and an automatic shut-off, and a timer to start and stop the unit, an electrical outlet on the base for receiving other electrical components such as for charging a cell phone, for example, a battery compartment in the base for receiving the rechargeable battery, an adjustable collar in the vertical post of the unit to adjust the height of the unit, and a hook at the top for hanging, a removably attached solar panel having GIGS technology to power the unit, a barrel containing a motor, a rotating quiet fan, mesh screening, and reflexive heating elements and a filter at the top of the barrel.

A portable air temperature cooling device, comprising a vertical free-standing device having a control panel having an LED indicator light to indicate power from battery or solar power, a three temperature setting controller and an automatic shut-off, and a timer to start and stop the unit, an electrical outlet on the base for receiving other electrical components such as for charging a cell phone, for example, a battery compartment in the base for receiving the rechargeable battery, an adjustable collar in the vertical post of the unit to adjust the height of the unit, and a hook at the top for hanging, a removably attached solar panel having CIGS technology to power the unit, a barrel containing a motor, a rotating quiet fan, mesh screening, and condenser and cooling coils and a filter at the top of the barrel.
