Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a strap that is utilized to transport or a pot or casserole dish.

2. Description of Related Art

Many times individuals prepare foods in a pot or a casserole-type dish that includes a lid and a pot or a large bowl, in the case of a casserole, that contains contents of the prepared dish. When preparing food in the pot or a casserole it is necessary to extract the food for consumption and in some cases the pot or casserole is transported to a table or an alternative location for consumption. Many pots come with handles that are used to lift and transport the pot from the stove to an alternate location, further many casserole dishes include handles. The use of handles to transport a pot or casserole requires the use of two hands. Further, the lid is placed upon the pot or casserole. The lid is secured merely by gravity and may not completely seal the opening when transporting a pot therefore spillage may occur due to the lack of a firm seal of the lid on to the pot or alternatively the user may simply lose their grip of the handles while transporting the pot. In addition to the handles, an individual may have to use a potholder or pad to grasp the handle due to the temperature of the handle. Also, many casseroles do not come equipped with handles for the transporting of.

U.S. Patent Application No. 20020038808 discloses an apparatus for transporting pots and pans that may be used to transport a load of cookware therein. The apparatus is a single-handle device that carries pots within a flexible panel that creates a pocket to hold a heat resistant plate for supporting a pot or pan.

It would be advantageous to have a device that slips over any pot or casserole and secures the lid in place for transporting a pot or casserole. It would further be advantageous to have a handle that attaches to the enclosing strap that therefore enables for the easy movement of the pot or casserole in a single-handed fashion.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a transport strap for transporting a pot or casserole comprising: a lid attachment, where said lid attachment securing fits over a lid handle; a means to secure the lid attachment to the lid handle; at least one strap extending from opposite sides of the lid attachment; a means to secure the at least one strap around the perimeter of the pot or casserole dish; and a means to lift the pot or casserole extending from the at least one strap. In one particular embodiment, the means to secure the lid may include a slit opening in the center of the lid attachment and the at least one strap may include a first buckle and a second buckle where the first buckle and second buckle join to secure the at least one strap. The second buckle may be adjustable along the length of the at least one strap. In another particular embodiment, the means to lift includes a handle.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 depicts a perspective view of a transport strap according to the present invention.

FIG. 2 depicts the attachment handle to the transport strap in accordance with the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to a transport strap that may be attached to a pot or casserole dish to secure the lid onto the pot and provide a means for the transporting of the pot or casserole dish in a single-handed fashion. The present invention includes a lid attachment that slides over the lid and therefore secures the lid in place while the strap extends around the outer perimeter of the pot. The strap includes adjustable buckles that allow for the adjustment of length of the strap in order to accommodate various sizes of pots and casseroles.

In reference to FIG. 1, a transport strap 10 is depicted. The transport strap 10 includes a lid attachment 21 that has a slit opening 22 in the center thereof. The slit opening 22 provides a means for the insertion of a pot lid into the lid attachment 21. Extending from each side of the lid attachment 21 are straps 24(a), 24(b). A buckle 26(a) is provided at the end of strap 24(a) and an adjusting buckle 26(b) is provided at the end of strap 24(b). The buckles 26(a), 26(b) provide a means to secure the straps 24(a), 24(b) around the pot or casserole. The buckle 26(b) adjusts in order to accommodate various sizes of pots and casserole. When the transport strap 10 is placed onto a pot, the lid handle slides through the slit opening 22 and the straps 24(a), 24(b) extend around the outer perimeter of the pot to secure the lid to the pot or a casserole.

FIG. 2 depicts the attachment of the transport strap 10 onto a pot. As shown, the lid attachment 21 firmly surrounds the lid handle of the pot lid. Straps 24(a), 24(b) extend from each side of the lid attachment 21 and extend around the perimeter of the pot. A handle 26 is provided that attaches to the straps 24(a), 24(b) and provides a means for the lifting and transporting of the pot. The straps 24(a), 24(b) are designed of flexible material that is heat resistant in order to withstand heat from the pot or casserole. In one particular embodiment, the straps are made of a silicone rubber. The handle that extends from the straps may be made of cotton material to provide a comfortable handle for the transporting of the pot or casserole. The lid attachment may also be manufactured of a heat resistant silicone rubber. Use of the transport strap and handle according to the present invention therefore allows for easy transporting of a hot pot or casserole in a one-handed fashion. It therefore obviates the need for potholders or pads to transport the pot or casserole. Further it eliminates any spilling risk that is typically associated with transporting a pot due to the unsecured lid. The instant invention has been shown and described in what it considers to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made there from within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
