Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a kit that is used to convert a stock of a bolt-action rifle.

2. Description of Related Art

A rifle is a commonly used firearm that is used for hunting or sporting purposes. The rifle is used primarily due to its accuracy and range which is superior to the use of a hand gun. Rifles come in a variety of calibers and styles depending on the use and application thereof. Rifles are widely used in the military and many such rifles are characterized as automatic or semi-automatic rifles. In automatic and semi-automatic rifles the shells are loaded into the firing chamber of the rifle and unloaded automatically. The semi-automatic and automatic rifles have the capability of attaching magazines which hold numerous shells and therefore are ideal for military situations where numerous rounds must be fired in a short period of time. Rifles used for hunting may also be automatic but usually have less ammunition capacity. One popular rifle used by hunters and marksman is a bolt-action style rifle. The bolt-action style rifle is manually loaded and unloaded through the use of a bolt-action mechanism.

Bolt-action rifles are particularly useful for target and sniper type shooting. The bolt-action rifle is operated by manually opening and closing the breech with a small handle, which is commonly placed on the right side of the weapon. When the bolt is unlocked the breech is opened and the shell casing is withdrawn or ejected. A new round or shell is placed in the breech and the bolt is closed. Although the bolt-action rifle has a slower rate of firing it is still considered a more accurate weapon as opposed to the automatic and semi-automatic weapons.

Most bolt-action rifles come with a standard straight grip stock that proceeds slowly from the toe to the trigger and therefore is fairly horizontal near the trigger handle. Some gunstocks for bolt-action rifles have been modified to provide some hand gripping curvature features. One difference between a bolt-action rifle and the semi-automatic or assault rifle is that most assault rifles have a pistol type grip where a separate grip is provided just behind the trigger for a pistol type gripping action. The pistol grip offers many advantages in the control of recoil and is preferred by many target shooters for it's trigger control. Many of the stocks used on the assault rifles are sliding and adjustable or a separate piece from the grip provided on the rifle.

It therefore may be advantageous to have an assault type stock with a pistol grip on a bolt-action style rifle. Consequently, it would be advantageous to have a kit that could convert the standard stock from a bolt-action rifle to an assault style grip with assault style stock.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a butt stock conversion kit for converting a bolt-action rifle stock comprising: an assault type stock, wherein said assault type stock includes a threaded end and an adjusting bolt; a bushing, where said bushing connects the butt stock to a receiving section of a bolt-action rifle; a grip plate where said grip plate receives a hand grip and said grip plate is positioned behind the trigger guard of the rifle; and a means to secure the grip plate on to the receiving section of the rifle. The means to secure the grip plate includes at least one bolt connecting the plate to the rifle. The receiving section of the rifle may include a threaded end to attach the bushing thereto. The rifle includes a cavity to receive the grip plate. The hand grip may also include an opening to receive the grip plate.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention provides a gun stock conversion kit that is capable of converting a standard stock on a bolt-action rifle into an assault style stock with a pistol grip. The present invention includes an assault style stock that is inserted onto a bolt-action rifle along with a piston grip to convert the standard stock of a bolt-action rifle into an assault style stock. Referring to FIG. 1, a butt stock conversion kit 100 is depicted. The butt stock conversion kit 100 includes a butt stock 30 that further includes a buffer tube 32 with a threaded end 34. The threaded end 34 is connected to the receiving end of a bolt-action rifle 50 by using a bushing 20. The kit further includes a pistol style grip 25. This conversion kit is inserted onto a bolt-action rifle and therefore it converts the standard stock into the assault style stock on the bolt-action rifle.

A detailed look at some of the components of the butt stock conversion kit is depicted in FIG. 2. The buffer tube 32 includes a bolt 35 that provides a means of adjusting and tightening the stock 30 onto the bushing 20. The grip 25 is attached to the underside of the rifle 50 just behind a trigger guard 52. A grip plate 40 is provided for the insertion of the grip 25 onto the rifle 50. A top bolt 42 is inserted through the topside of the receiving end of the rifle 50 and penetrates there through to attach the grip plate 40 into place. A second bolt 44 extends into the grip 25 and is used to attach the grip onto the grip plate 44.

FIG. 3 provides a view of the various components completely detached from the rifle 50. As shown, the bushing 20 attaches to a threaded end 55 of the bolt-action rifle 50. The bushing 20 inserts onto this threaded end 55 and also receives the butt stock 30 at the opposite end of the bushing 20. Further shown is the grip plate 40 completely removed from the bolt-action rifle 50. The grip plate 40 is configured in a manner so that a section of the grip plate inserts into an opening of the bolt-action rifle and therefore receives the top bolt 42 to secure the grip plate 40 into place. The bottom portion of the grip plate 40 inserts into an opening provided in the grip 25 to receive the grip plate 40. Once the components are all placed together the stock is completely converted with a pistol style grip 25 and an assault action style stock 30.

FIG. 4 depicts a close up of the top portion of the rifle 50 at the receiving end to show an opening 51 for the insertion of bolt 42. The opening 51 provides the means to insert the bolt 42 in order to bolt the grip plate 40 into place. The bolt 42 inserts into the top opening shown in the grip plate 40. FIG. 5 depicts the bottom of the rifle 50 that receives the grip plate 40. A grip plate receiver 53 is shown that has a bolt opening 54 which is the opposite end of the opening 51 shown in FIG. 4. The bolt 42 inserts into the top opening 51 and extends out into the opening 54 for insertion into the top opening of the grip plate 40. The bottom of the grip plate 40 inserts into an opening 27 provided on the grip 25. Once the grip 25 is inserted on the grip plate 40, bolt 44 extends into a bolt opening not shown in the grip 25 that allows for the insertion of the grip 25 onto the grip plate 40.

The butt stock conversion kit according to the present invention provides the means to re-assemble and convert the standard stock of a bolt-action rifle into a semi-automatic or assault style stock with pistol grip. By using an assault style stock grip, the user may modify the rate of fire of the bolt-action rifle and have the convenience of an assault style stock with grip for use there with. The kit is designed so it may be used with any bolt-action style rifle and is easy to assemble and to convert the rifle grip and stock areas.
