TACKLE BAG FOR MARINE VESSELS
A tackle bag comprising of a PVC coated polyester mesh fabric, a polyester dive mesh pocket, a bag border that borders and attaches to the pocket and the PVC coated mesh fabric so that the pocket securely attaches to the PVC coated mesh fabric, a pocket border attaches to the upper side of the pocket and to the bag border, a drawstring locking system partially housed within the pocket border, the drawstring locking system attaches to the bag borders, at least five grommets, one grommet is centrally located on the pocket border and each remaining grommet is located on the bag borders, and at least four cord locking systems secured through the grommets of the bag borders.
The present invention is directed to a tackle bag that is used on marine vessels to maximize deck space, maximize accessibility to equipment and to reduce the possibility of onboard accidents.
The inventor of the present invention is a charter boat captain. As a charter boat captain, he observed that his passengers often struggled with the use of existing tackle boxes, the boxes were inconvenient to use and hazardous.
His passengers suffered the following inconveniences when on boat charters: difficulty accessing the tackle boxes from storage spaces; difficulty in locating and retrieving equipment within the confined and inconveniently located storage spaces within which the tackle boxes are typically stored; rust and mold developing on equipment stored within the tackle boxes; and difficulty in storing the tackle boxes in the available storage spaces on marine vessels.
More importantly, he also noticed that due to the limited space on some vessels, the tackle boxes also became an obstacle that his clients would trip over. Those tackle boxes that were not stored away in storage spaces were a safety hazard to his passengers when they moved about the vessel. In rough waters or while making way, the dangers of having tackle boxes on the deck of his vessels increased significantly, as these unsecured tackle boxes were prone to move about uninhibited during rough conditions and could strike passengers, causing injury, or fall overboard.
The inventor realized that he had to develop a tackle storage device that could be placed in a convenient and safe spot on any vessel, that could be easily accessed, that could allow a user to quickly and easily see the contents within the storage device, that could be breathable so that the contents within the device would be allowed to dry and not develop rust or mold; caused minimal additional drag from wind resistance which promotes efficient fuel usage, that could be easily stored within the vessel, that could be easily washed along with the vessel, travels safely on the vessel when the vessel is being towed up to highway speeds, and is easily removed and stored. He also realized that the device had to be secured on the vessel so that it did not shift during its use, that the device should be secured on locations of the vessel that would be easily accessible to passengers, and that the device should not be a hazard to his passengers.
For the foregoing reasons, there is a need for a tackle bag that can be secured on a marine vessel that will be easily accessible, breathable, convenient to use and non-hazardous.
SUMMARYThe present invention is directed to a tackle bag that will be easily accessible, breathable, convenient to use and non-hazardous.
The tackle bag of the present invention is suspended from the framework of marine vessels, for example poling platforms, casting platforms, fishing towers, t-tops, and railings. The tackle bag is intentionally made of materials that can withstand harsh marine environments.
The tackle bag comprises of a PVC coated mesh fabric having a top, bottom, upper, lower, left and right side, a polyester dive mesh pocket having a top, bottom, upper, lower, left and right side, the pocket is placed on top of the top side of the PVC coated mesh fabric so that the bottom, lower, left, and right sides of the pocket align with the top, lower, left, and right sides of the PVC coated mesh fabric, a bag border that borders and attaches to the pocket and the PVC coated mesh fabric so that the pocket securely attaches to the PVC coated mesh fabric, the bag border is made of light weight polypropylene, a pocket border attaches to the upper side of the pocket and to the bag border, the pocket border is made of elastic, a drawstring locking system, the drawstring being made of elastic cord, is partially housed within the pocket border, the drawstring locking system attaches to the bag borders, at least five grommets, one grommet is located at the center of on the pocket border and each remaining grommet is placed on the bag borders, and at least four cord locking systems secured through the grommets.
Because of the marine environment, the inventor of the present invention has selected materials to construct his tackle bag that are durable and resistant to UV rays and salt water. By choosing durable and resistant materials, the inventor is prolonging the life of the tackle bag.
An object of the present invention is to provide a tackle bag that will not be a hazard or an impediment to the movements of passengers on marine vessels.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a tackle bag that is easily accessible.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a tackle bag that prevents the formation of rust and mold on equipment stored within the device.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a tackle bag that can be easily and conveniently secured to the framework of most marine vessels.
Yet a further object of the present invention is to provide a tackle bag that allows its users to quickly and easily see the items being stored within the tackle bag.

In a preferred embodiment the PVC coated polyester mesh fabric 10 is between 8 to 12 ounces per square yard. The mesh fabric 10 is PVC coated and made of polyester to prevent the mesh from absorbing water and UV light, thereby extending the life of the present invention
In another preferred embodiment, the bag border 14 is made of two-inch, light weight, polypropylene webbing, the webbing is folded in half when it is made to attach to the pocket 12 and the mesh fabric 10. The bag border 14 is attached to the pocket 12 and the mesh fabric 10 using a polyester thread.
In yet another preferred embodiment, the mesh pocket 12 defines openings that are one-eighth by three-sixteenths of an inch in size.
In a further preferred embodiment, the pocket border 16 comprises of two one and a half inch strips that are made of woven elastic that are attached to each other using means known in the art or polyester thread.
In yet a further preferred embodiment, the drawstring locking system 18 comprises of a three-sixteenth inch polyester shock cord 18a, a plastic cord lock 18b mounted on the shock cord 18a, and a plastic toggle ball 18c attached to the shock cord 18a.
In another preferred embodiment, the grommets 20 are made of stainless steel.
In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, ten grommets 20 shall be located on the bag border 14 as follows, four shall be adjacent to the upper side of the PVC coated mesh fabric 10c, one shall be adjacent to the left side of the PVC coated mesh fabric 10e, one shall be adjacent to the right side of the PVC coated mesh fabric 10f, and four shall be adjacent to the lower side of the PVC coated mesh fabric 10d.
The present invention is used by first providing the tackle bag 100, then locating a suitable framework on a marine vessel to suspend the tackle bag 100, for example, poling platforms, casting platforms, towers, t-tops, or railings, next securing the tackle bag 100 to the suitable framework of the marine vessel.
An advantage of the present invention is that it provides a tackle bag that is not a hazard or impediment to the movements of passengers on marine vessels.
Another advantage of the present invention is that it provides a tackle bag that is quickly and easily accessible.
Yet another advantage of the present invention is that it provides a tackle bag that prevents the formation of rust and mold on equipment stored within the tackle bag.
A further advantage of the present invention is that it provides a tackle bag that secures to the framework of most marine vessels.
Yet a further advantage of the present invention is that it provides a tackle bag that allow its users to quickly and easily see the items being stored within the tackle bag.
Although the present invention has been described in considerable detail in reference to preferred versions, other versions are possible. Therefore, the spirit and scope of the appended claims should not be limited to the description of the preferred versions contained herein.
Claims
1. A tackle bag for use on marine vessels, the tackle bag comprises:
- a PVC coated mesh fabric having a top, bottom, upper, lower, left and right side;
- a polyester dive mesh pocket having a top, bottom, upper, lower, left and right side, the pocket is placed on top of the top side of the PVC coated mesh fabric so that the bottom, lower, left, and right sides of the pocket align with the top, lower, left, and right sides of the PVC coated mesh fabric;
- a bag border that borders and attaches to the pocket and the PVC coated mesh fabric so that the pocket securely attaches to the PVC coated mesh fabric, the bag border is made of light weight polypropylene webbing;
- a pocket border attaches to the upper side of the pocket and to the bag border;
- a drawstring locking system partially housed within the pocket border, the drawstring locking system attaches to the bag borders;
- at least five grommets, one grommet is centrally located on the pocket border and each remaining grommet is placed on the bag borders; and
- at least four cord locking systems secured through the grommets located on the bag borders.
2. The tackle bag of claim 1, wherein the PVC coated polyester mesh fabric is between eight to twelve ounces per square yard.
3. The tackle bag of claim 2, wherein the bag border is made of two inch, light weight, polypropylene webbing.
4. The tackle bag of claim 3, wherein the mesh pocket defines openings that are one-eighth by three-sixteenths of an inch.
5. The tackle bag of claim 4, wherein the pocket border comprises of two one and a half inch strips that are made of woven elastic that attach to each other.
6. The tackle bag of claim 5, wherein the drawstring locking system comprises:
- a three-sixteenth polyester shock cord;
- a plastic cord lock mounted on the shock cord; and
- a plastic toggle ball attached to the shock cord.
7. The tackle bag of claim 6, wherein ten grommets shall be located on the bag border as follows:
- four shall be adjacent to the upper side of the PVC coated mesh fabric, one shall be adjacent to the left side of the PVC coated mesh fabric, one shall be adjacent to the right side of the PVC coated mesh fabric, and four shall be adjacent to the lower side of the PVC coated mesh fabric.
8. The tackle bag of claim 7, wherein six drawstring locking systems are secured through the grommets.
9. The tackle bag of claim 8, wherein the grommets are made of stainless steel.
10. The tackle bag of claim 1, wherein the grommets are made of stainless steel.
