CLAIM OF PRIORITY

This patent application claims priority under 35 USC 119 (e) (1) from U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 61/464,660 filed Mar. 7, 2011, of common inventorship herewith entitled, “POL Bracelets.”

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention pertains to the field of fitness and health, and more specifically to the field of muscle strengthening with weight training devices worn on the body.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The prior art has put forth several designs for weight training cuffs. Among these are:

U.S. Pat. No. D582,994 to Annie B. Ulichney and Kim R. Koelle describes a slender ankle/wrist weight made from a strong material fabric. The material inserted inside this fabric to add weight is not disclosed. This weighted cuff wraps around the ankle or wrist attaching with velcro™ closures extending from each end of the cuff.

U.S. Pat. No. D488,523 to Lynn Hamlin describes an exercising cuff made from a durable material fabric which wraps around the wrist or ankle. The material inserted inside this fabric to add weight is not disclosed. It is attached and held together using a velcro™ strip sewn to the back of the cuff. This strip extends from the cuff, loops through a metal ring attached to back of the cuff, and is pulled to tighten the cuff and then attached to the velcro™ strip on the back of the cuff.

U.S. Pat. No. 6,561,958 to Gunther Pappert describes a weighted cuff comprising a casing, a weight insert received in the casing, and a cylindrical spring clip embedded in the casing. The cylindrical spring clip imparts a desired shape to the casing and defines a slot extending the length of the casing. This cuff slips over the extremity and is adjusted for a secure fit on the extremity or joint where it resides. The weight insert is comprised of metal plates carried by the spring clip and connected to each other allowing this device to be very narrow in width.

None of these prior art references describe the present invention.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the present invention to provide a convenient means of toning and firming one's arms and legs during normal activities such as walking, climbing stairs, or sitting at a desk.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

There is little dispute that regular exercise is extremely beneficial to the human body. Whether an elderly couple embarking on an evening stroll, a health conscious coed enjoying an afternoon aerobics class or a homemaker stretching her muscles and raising her heartbeat through yoga, regular exercise is beneficial to the body, mind and spirit. Many exercisers enjoy sculpting and toning their body using free weights. Helping to burn excess fat and build stronger muscles, weight training also increases endurance and facilitates a healthier physical appearance. Weight training also strengthens the bones. By increasing lean muscle mass, weight training helps boost the metabolism which greatly assists in shedding excess fat.

The present invention, hereinafter referred to as the POL Bracelet, is a free weight configured in the form of an easily donned arm band or ankle band which could be worn and utilized throughout the day. Designed to strengthen and tone the arms and legs, the POL Bracelet also serves as a fashionable accessory item to accentuate one's wardrobe. A cuff style bracelet, the POL Bracelet is comprised of two semi cylindrical weights to be positioned on the top and underside of the wrist, arm or ankle. The POL Bracelet measures approximately eight inches in length, one and three fourth inches in width, and one half inch in depth. This adjustable cuff features fancy leather or canvas casing with striking buckles, studs and decorative adornments on the cuff. An adjustable lead cable is threaded through either end of each weight, running the length of either side of the cuff, culminating in an interlocking fastener. This durable cable is designed to easily secure the bracelet in place as well as adjust the diameter of the cuff for a comfortable and secure fit. The POL Bracelet can be produced in a variety of weight denominations such as one half pound, one pound, two pounds and five pounds. The POL Bracelet can be produced in neutral hues and a variety of attractive colors.

An alternative embodiment of the bracelet of the present invention comprises a guiding tube for cable adjustment to freely slide in and out and to protect the cable when adjusting the size of the bracelet.

Application and use of the POL Bracelet is very simple and straight forward. The user purchases a POL Bracelet in accordance to their personal weight training goals and needs. A beginning exerciser may purchase lighter weights, keeping the resistance level to a minimum and enjoying a moderate workout. An experienced body builder may purchase heavier POL Bracelets, ensuring an intensive workout. The user wraps the armband about their upper arm, wrist, or ankle in accordance to the area of the body being trained. The user then embarks on their scheduled activity. For a low impact workout, the user can wear a POL Bracelet on each arm while taking a leisurely walk around the neighborhood or performing household chores. For a high impact workout, the user can wear a POL Bracelet on each ankle while running, taking an aerobics class or exercising on an elliptical machine. The user tones their arms and legs, and also raises their heart beat by completing various aerobic movements. The POL Bracelet is removed and can be stored until needed again. The present invention provides the exercise enthusiast a simple and efficient means of training with weights. A resistance fool configured in the form of a stylish accessory item, the POL Bracelet is worn comfortably on the body and improves the user's muscle strength and circulation by swinging their arms in a back and forth motion, lifting their arms over their head or walking. The POL Bracelet can be very useful to senior citizens, overweight individuals and others who lack the endurance or physical strength to complete an arduous physical workout. The POL Bracelet is well suited to use in small spaces such as apartments, condominiums, college dormitories and office cubicles. The POL Bracelet provides a simple and effective resistance workout virtually anywhere.

Although this invention has been described with respect to specific embodiments, it is not intended to be limited thereto and various modifications which will become apparent to the person of ordinary skill in the art are intended to fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as described herein taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and the appended claims.
