KIT FOR GIFTING A CRAFT ITEM

Abstract

A kit for gifting a craft item. The kit includes an elongated member configured to form a loop configured to be worn as jewelry. The kit includes a quantity of sculpting material for use as a decorative craft element. The kit includes an attachment member coupled to the elongated member and includes a curved portion configured to support the sculpting material. The kit includes a gift box sized to fully contain the elongated member, the attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material. The kit includes a set of instructions for describing a hardening condition and an assembly method for a craft item utilizes the quantity of sculpting material. The kit includes a mailer that includes a protective layer, configured to meet standard mailing requirements for mailing containers.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to craft and gift kits, specifically a gift kit having personalized clay jewelry.

2. Description of the Related Art

Jewelry and craft-making are some of the oldest arts known to humanity. Jewelry is made to symbolize important moments and achievements, to beautify and adorn, to store wealth, and etc. There are a plethora of ways to make jewelry and those ways are under continual improvement by the multitude in the art. Jewelry often includes one or more decorative elements and one or more connective elements configured to couple the decorative element(s) to a person. In some cases, the elements serve multiple purposes.

Creating jewelry takes various levels of skill depending on the desired outcome and the intended process. In some cases, skill with metallurgy, gemology, and etc. and specific tools are required. In other cases, materials may be used substantially as they are found in nature.

Gifting jewelry is a common practice among many cultures. Sometimes the gift symbolizes promises or intentions. Other times it represents gratitude. In some cases the jewelry is presented as is and in other cases it is further decorated.

Jewelry may be customized or personalized to represent a specific memory or moment in time. For example, some jewelry includes containers that hold photographs, inscriptions, or other materials associated with a memory and are worn with a desire to keep that memory close.

Some improvements have been made in the field. Examples of references related to the present invention are described below in their own words, and the supporting teachings of each reference are incorporated by reference herein:

U.S. Pat. No. 6,435,255, issued to Kaladjian, discloses a fingerprint jewelry includes any jewelry with a person's fingerprints cast in relief onto its surface. It is made by pressing a finger on a sheet of pliable wax medium to imprint it with fingerprints in relief. In a first embodiment, the wax medium is comprised of a soft wax medium soft enough to be imprinted at room temperature. In a second embodiment, the wax medium is comprised of a soft wax medium supported on a hard wax medium. The imprinted wax medium is positioned in a hollow form. A mold is created around the wax medium by pouring a mold material into the hollow form. An oven is used to harden the mold material and melt away the wax to leave a mold cavity. Molten precious metal is cast into the mold cavity with a casting machine to produce a casting with the fingerprints in relief. The casting is freed by breaking the mold. Additional work may be performed on the casting to produce a finished piece of jewelry. For example, the casting may be bent into a loop and welded closed to form a finger ring. The fingerprint jewelry thus provides a durable, unique, personal, and identifiable representation of the jewelry's giver or owner.

U.S. Pat. No. 5,662,942, issued to Kim II, discloses a kit and method for easily and conveniently obtaining a fingerprint impression which is subsequently used to create an accurate three-dimensional fingerprint replication. The kit comprises at least one finger sleeve, a base material and a catalyst for forming an amount of impression material, and instructions for using the kit to obtain the fingerprint impression using the finger sleeve and the impression material. The invention also comprises a unique finger sleeve adapted for use with the kit to obtain a fingerprint impression.

U.S. Pat. No. 5,490,597, issued to Schluger, discloses an assembled kit of materials useful in mailing a gift in which advantageous double use is made of a folded mailing box about which plastic is shrunk wrap to enclose the materials and, when unfolded, the wrapped gift is placed in the box for mailing.

U.S. Pat. No. 4,168,586, issued to Samis, discloses a method for assisting in the identification of valuable articles which comprises selecting a carrier, transcribing information as to the identity of the valuable on the carrier, and fixing the carrier to a portion of the valuable. The structure includes a miniaturized carrier of relatively innert material and having identifying intelligence thereon, wherein the carrier is adapted to be fixed or otherwise embedded in the valuable article.

U.S. Pat. No. 6,572,670, issued to Theide et al., discloses a composition for forming metal objects includes (a) first particles containing a jewelry-metal, and (b) second particles containing a refractory metal oxide. The composition allows the preparation of jewelry-metal in a large variety of colors.

The inventions heretofore known suffer from a number of disadvantages which include being limited in personalization, being limited in display, being limited in difficult to gift, difficult to craft, requiring the purchase of multiple disparate items, being expensive, failing to preserve a memory, failing to communicate a sentiment, requiring adjustment by a user, and requiring too many steps to complete.

What is needed is a kit that solves one or more of the problems described herein and/or one or more problems that may come to the attention of one skilled in the art upon becoming familiar with this specification.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention has been developed in response to the present state of the art, and in particular, in response to the problems and needs in the art that have not yet been fully solved by currently available kits for gifting a craft item. Accordingly, the present invention has been developed to provide a easy all in one kit for gifting a craft item.

According to one embodiment of the invention, there is a kit for gifting a craft item. The kit may include an elongated member that may have a coupling device at an end thereof. The elongated member may be configured to form a loop, thereby the loop may permit the elongated member to be worn as jewelry. The kit may include a quantity of sculpting material, the sculpting material may be pliable and may have the property that when exposed to a hardening condition, the sculpting material may transform into a substantially rigid solid suitable for use as a decorative craft element.

The kit may include an attachment member that may be coupled to the elongated member and may include a curved portion. The curved portion may be configured to provide grip and support hardened clay coupled thereto, such that when the attachment member may be enveloped by hardened clay, hardened clay may remain coupled thereto under typical jewelry wearing conditions.

The kit may include a gift box that may be sized to fully contain the elongated member, the attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material. The gift box may include a decorative closure device that may be configured to secure closure of the gift box and contents thereof. The kit may also include a gift pouch that may have a flat sleeve. The flat sleeve may include closure members at each end and that may be sized to fully contain the elongated member, the attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material.

The kit may include a set of instructions for describing a hardening condition and an assembly method for a craft item that may utilize the quantity of sculpting material. The kit may include a gift card. The kit may include a plurality of gift wrapping material that may be configured to decorate the gift box. The kit may include a plurality of decorating material that may be configured to decorate the quantity of sculpting material before the hardening condition. The kit may include a gift card envelope that may be sized to fully contain the gift card. The kit may include a coupling ring that may be configured to couple the attachment member to the elongated member. The kit may include a postage stamp that may be configured to provide postage to mail the mailer and the contents therein. The kit may include a mailer that may have a protective layer, that may be configured to meet standard mailing requirements for mailing containers, and may be sized to fully contain the gift card and the gift pouch.

The kit may include an enclosure that may contain each of items: an elongated member, a quantity of sculpting material, an attachment member, a gift box, a gift pouch, a set of instructions, a gift card, and/or a mailer.

Reference throughout this specification to features, advantages, or similar language does not imply that all of the features and advantages that may be realized with the present invention should be or are in any single embodiment of the invention. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a kit, according to one embodiment of the invention. There is shown a kit 10 for gifting a craft item including a gift box 12 and an enclosure 14

The illustrated kit 10 includes a gift box 12 that is sized to fully contain an elongated member, an attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material. The gift box 12 includes a decorative closure device 16 that is configured to secure closure of the gift box 12 and the contents thereof. The kit 10 includes a plurality of decorative material 18 that is configured to decorate the gift box 12. The kit 10 includes an enclosure 14 that is configured to contain each of items: an elongated member, a quantity of sculpting material, an attachment member, a gift box, a gift pouch, a set of instructions, a gift card, and/or a mailer.

In one embodiment, the enclosure 14 includes a mailer having a set of instructions, a gift pouch, and a gift card disposed thereon with a gift box including an elongated member disposed therein and a quantity of sculpting material disposed therein. Accordingly, the enclosure contains the materials in a mode ready for use.

The elongated member may include a chain, cord, choker, necklace, string, strip, ribbon or the like suitable for use in crafting a necklace, wristband, bracelet, anklet, earring, keychain, wallet chain, or the like or combinations thereof.

The quantity of sculpting material may include clay, plaster, soft polymer, mud, resin, gum, and the like and combinations thereof. There may be a plurality of materials that may have differing features and/or properties including but not limited to material composition, color, hardness, pliability, smell, flavor, and the like and combinations thereof. In one embodiment the sculpting material is polymer clay such as that taught in the following references which are incorporated by reference herein for their supporting teachings: U.S. Pat. No. 2,482,986, issued to McClatchey et al.; U.S. Patent Publication No.: 2005/0178006 by Whitmore; U.S. Pat. No. 4,993,472, issued to Culver; U.S. Pat. No. 6,572,670, issued to Theide et al.; and U.S. Patent Publication No.: 2007/0000351, by Brennan.

The attachment member may include a hook, jig, rigging, support, or the like or combinations thereof and may be curved, hooked, circular, looped, irregularly shaped, and the like and combinations thereof, such that it may support hardened material coupled thereto such that the material will not easily dislodge. In one non-limiting example, the attachment member is a metal hook. There may also be a plurality of jewelry findings, attachment members, coupling devices, and decorative elements that may be directed to one or more particular craft results.

The gift box may include a prefabricated box (assembled or not) that may be shaped and sized to contain one or more of the other materials included in the kit, in particular a crafted jewelry item that may be a composition of the elongated member, a portion of the sculpting material, and the attachment member. The gift box may be decorated and/or may include a plurality of decorations that may be applied thereto, including but not limited to bows, ribbons, stickers, fabric, paper, tags, colorings, and the like and combinations thereof. The gift box may include a flat mode for storage and association with the kit, and a constructed mode where the gift box generates a cavity therein for placing objects.

The gift pouch may include a pouch having a pair of matched planar members coupled about the ends/edges and including an opening therebetween to a cavity therebetween. The gift pouch may include a selectably closable member that may couple across the opening, thereby sealing the cavity. The gift pouch may include a writable portion and or decorative members and/or elements. The gift pouch may be sized so that it may contain a crafted jewelry item formed according to the instructions provided with the kit and/or include the gift card.

The set of instructions may include instructions for using one or more of the components of the kit and may include instructions for crafting a jewelry item out of the components of the kit.

The mailer may include a box, pouch, and/or other receptacle configured to be mailed through standard mailing processes. The mailer may be sized to contain the gift box, the gift pouch, and/or a crafted item constructed according to the instructions.

FIG. 2 is a front elevational view of an elongated member of a kit, according to one embodiment of the invention. There is shown a kit 10 including an elongated member 20, a quantity of sculpting material 22, and an attachment member 24.

The illustrated kit 10 includes an elongated member 20 having a coupling device 26 at an end 28 thereof. The elongated member 20 is configured to form a loop 30, thereby the loop 30 permits the elongated member 20 to be worn, or as a craft item. The kit 10 includes a quantity of sculpting material 22, the sculpting material 22 is pliable and includes the property that when exposed to a hardening condition, the sculpting material 22 transforms into a substantially rigid solid suitable for use as a decorative craft element. The property may include but is not limited to: exposure to heat, cold, chemicals; drying; and the like and combinations thereof. Accordingly, the sculpting material may be impressed with a relief, sunken relief, counter-relief, or the like image and then hardened, thereby preserving the image in the material. The material may be hardened about the attachment member and thereby coupled to the elongated member. Depending on the length and proportional sizing of the portions of the craft item, the end result may be a necklace, choker, bracelet, wristband, anklet, and the like or combinations thereof or other decorative craft. In one non-limiting example, a user may press a finger into the sculpting material, thereby forming a sunken relief image of a fingerprint before hardening the material. This forms a substantially unique image associated with the user and gifting the craft item may beneficially remind a recipient of the user. Accordingly, the kit may provide instant gratification for a sentimental personalized keepsake, wherein each keepsake may be unique to the maker and may hold the physical and energetic imprints of the creator.

The kit 10 includes an attachment member 24 that is coupled to the elongated member 20. The attachment member 24 includes a curved portion 32. The curved portion 32 is configured to provide grip and support to the hardened clay, from the quantity of sculpting material, when coupled thereto, such that when the attachment member 24 is enveloped by the hardened clay, the hardened clay remains coupled thereto under typical jewelry wearing conditions.

FIG. 3 is a top view of a mailer of a kit, according to one embodiment of the invention. There is shown kit 10 including a mailer 40, a gift pouch 52, a gift card 44, a gift card envelope 46, and a thoughtful poem 48.

There is a kit 10 for gifting a craft item. The kit includes a gift pouch 52 having a flat sleeve 42. The flat sleeve 42 includes a pair of closure members 50 at each end and that is sized to fully contain an elongated member, an attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material therein. The kit 10 includes a gift card 44. The kit 10 includes a gift card envelope 46 that is sized to fully contain the gift card 44 and a thoughtful poem 48. The kit 10 includes a mailer 40 having a protective layer 54 that is configured to meet standard mailing requirements for mailing containers. The mailer 40 is sized to fully contain the gift card 44 and the gift pouch 52.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a user personalizing a quantity of sculpting material of a kit, according to one embodiment of the invention. There is shown a user 60 creating a personalized craft item from a plurality of sculpting material 22.

The illustrated quantity of sculpting material 22 is pliable and includes property that when exposed to a hardening condition, the sculpting material 22 is transformed into a substantially rigid solid suitable for use as a decorative craft element. The quantity of sculpting material 22 is configured to be mixed together to create a personalized craft item. A user 60, after mixing the sculpting material to a desired look, presses a finger or thumb into the sculpting material, leaving an imprint thereon. The user 60 couples an attachment member to the sculpting material 22. The user 60 heats the sculpting material, in an oven, and hardens the material and secure an attachment member thereto.

FIG. 5 is a front elevational view of an elongated member of a kit, according to one embodiment of the invention. There is shown an elongated member 20 coupled to a plurality of sculpting material 22.

The illustrated elongated member 20 includes a coupling device 26 at an end thereof. The elongated member 20 is configured to form a loop, thereby the loop permits the elongated member 20 to be worn. The illustrated elongated member 20 includes a quantity of sculpting material 22 coupled thereto. The sculpting material is pliable and includes the property that when exposed to a hardening condition, the sculpting material 22 transforms into a substantially rigid solid suitable for use as a decorative craft element.

The illustrated sculpting material 22 includes an attachment member, disposed therein, that is coupled to the elongated member 20 The attachment member is configured to provide grip and support the hardened sculpting material when coupled thereto, such that when the attachment member is enveloped by hardened sculpting material, the sculpting material remains coupled thereto under typical jewelry wearing conditions.

In operation of one embodiment of the invention, a user creates a craft item from a plurality of sculpting material, by mixing the sculpting material together. The user personalizes the sculpting material by pressing a finger or a thumb thereon, thereby leaving a personal imprint on the sculpting material. The user inserts the curved portion of the attachment member into the sculpting material. The user places the sculpting material into a heated environment, such as an oven, and heats the sculpting material until it hardens. The user couples the attachment member, and the sculpting material that is coupled thereto, to an elongated member, thereby creating a wearable piece of jewelry or a craft item.

It is understood that the above-described embodiments are only illustrative of the application of the principles of the present invention. The present invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from its spirit or essential characteristics. The described embodiment is to be considered in all respects only as illustrative and not restrictive. The scope of the invention is, therefore, indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description. All changes which come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claims are to be embraced within their scope.

For example, although the Figures illustrates an elongated member, such as a necklace, one skilled in the art would appreciate that the elongated member may vary in size, shape, design, color, configuration, color, length, height, width, material, etc. and still perform its intended function.

Additionally, although the figures illustrate a necklace, one skilled in the art would appreciate that the elongated member or necklace may be a bracelet, a ring, an earring, a chain, a headband, toe ring, a piercing attachment, a keychain, purse chain, briefcase chain, cell phone chain, wallet chain, clothing chain, etc. and still perform its intended function.

It is envisioned that the kit may include a tracking device, configured to provide a tracking identification to the personalized jewelry. The tracking device may include a numerical or coded identification embedded into the quantity of sculpting material before hardening or attached to the elongated member. The tracking device may be tracked over a network and data regarding the tracking device and the personalized jewelry may be stored in a database. The data may be viewed and edited over a network.

It is expected that there could be numerous variations of the design of this invention. An example is that the elongated members may include a plurality of strands and or other decorative elements.

Finally, it is envisioned that the components of the device may be constructed of a variety of materials, including but not limited to metals, fibers, ceramics, minerals, gemstones, woods, textiles, and the like and combinations thereof.

Thus, while the present invention has been fully described above with particularity and detail in connection with what is presently deemed to be the most practical and preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art that numerous modifications, including, but not limited to, variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use may be made, without departing from the principles and concepts of the invention as set forth in the claims. Further, it is contemplated that an embodiment may be limited to consist of or to consist essentially of one or more of the features, functions, structures, methods described herein.

Claims

1. A kit for gifting a craft item, comprising:

a) an elongated member including a coupling device at an end thereof; wherein the elongated member is configured to form a loop, thereby permitting the elongated member to be worn;

b) a quantity of sculpting material, the sculpting material being pliable and having the property that when exposed to a hardening condition transforms into a substantially rigid solid suitable for use as a decorative craft element;

c) an attachment member coupled to the elongated member and including a curved portion configured to provide grip and support hardened clay coupled thereto such that when the attachment member is enveloped by hardened clay, hardened clay remains coupled thereto under typical jewelry wearing conditions;

d) a gift box sized to fully contain the elongated member, the attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material and including a decorative closure device configured to secure closure of the gift box and contents thereof;

e) a gift pouch including a flat sleeve having closure members at each end and sized to fully contain the elongated member, the attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material;

f) a set of instructions for describing a hardening condition and an assembly method for a craft item utilizing the quantity of sculpting material;

g) a gift card;

h) a mailer having a protective layer, configured to meet standard mailing requirements for mailing containers, and sized to fully contain the gift card and the gift pouch; and

i) an enclosure containing each of items a) through h).

2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the kit further comprises a plurality of gift wrapping material configured to decorate the gift box.

3. The kit of claim 1, wherein the kit further comprises a plurality of decorating material configured to decorate the quantity of sculpting material before the hardening condition.

4. The kit of claim 1, wherein the kit further comprises a gift card envelope sized to fully contain the gift card.

5. The kit of claim 1, wherein the kit further includes a coupling ring configured to couple the attachment member to the elongated member.

6. The kit of claim 1, wherein the kit further includes a postage stamp configured to provide postage to mail the mailer and the contents therein.

7. A kit for gifting a craft item, comprising:

a) an elongated member including a coupling device at an end thereof; wherein the elongated member is configured to form a loop, thereby permitting the elongated member to be worn;

b) a quantity of sculpting material, the sculpting material being pliable and having the property that when exposed to a hardening condition transforms into a substantially rigid solid suitable for use as a decorative craft element;

c) an attachment member coupled to the elongated member and including a curved portion configured to provide grip and support hardened clay coupled thereto such that when the attachment member is enveloped by hardened clay, hardened clay remains coupled thereto under typical jewelry wearing conditions;

d) a gift box sized to fully contain the elongated member, the attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material;

e) a gift pouch including a flat sleeve having closure members at each end and sized to fully contain the elongated member, the attachment member, and a portion of the quantity of sculpting material;

f) a set of instructions for describing a hardening condition and an assembly method for a craft item utilizing the quantity of sculpting material;

g) a mailer having a protective layer, configured to meet standard mailing requirements for mailing containers, and sized to fully contain the gift card and the gift pouch; and

h) an enclosure containing each of items a) through h).

8. The kit of claim 7, wherein the gift box further includes a decorative closure device configured to secure closure of the gift box and contents thereof.

9. The kit of claim 8, further comprising a gift card.

10. The kit of claim 9, wherein the kit further comprises a plurality of gift wrapping material configured to decorate the gift box.

11. The kit of claim 10, wherein the kit further comprises a plurality of decorating material configured to decorate the quantity of sculpting material before the hardening condition.

12. The kit of claim 11, wherein the kit further comprises a gift card envelope sized to fully contain the gift card.

13. The kit of claim 12, wherein the kit further includes a coupling ring configured to couple the attachment member to the elongated member.

14. The kit of claim 13, wherein the kit further includes a postage stamp configured to provide postage to mail the mailer and the contents therein.

15. A kit for gifting a craft item, comprising:

a) an elongated member including a coupling device at an end thereof; wherein the elongated member is configured to form a loop, thereby permitting the elongated member to be worn as jewelry;

b) a quantity of sculpting material, the sculpting material being pliable and having the property that when exposed to a hardening condition transforms into a substantially rigid solid suitable for use as a decorative craft element;

c) an attachment member coupled to the elongated member and including a curved portion configured to provide grip and support hardened clay coupled thereto such that when the attachment member is enveloped by hardened clay, hardened clay remains coupled thereto under typical jewelry wearing conditions;
