Description
FIELD

There is described a cement finishing attachment for use with a cement rake.

BACKGROUND

When finishing cement, a large bull float is often used to level and smooth the surface. There are certain areas in which the bull floats do not fit or are awkward to use such as under stairs or in tight areas.

SUMMARY

There is provided a cement finishing attachment for a cement rake. The attachment has a cement finishing blade with a first face, a second face, a first edge, a second edge and peripheral side edges. At least one retainer is provided on the second face of the cement finishing blade for fixing the cement finishing blade to a rake blade of a cement rake. A receiver is positioned on the second face of the cement finishing blade for receiving a shaft of the cement rake.

The position of the retainers on the cement finishing blade may differ based upon the style of cement rake being used. If the shaft of the cement rake is positioned in a central location near or at an edge of the rake blade then the retainers may be positioned at the second edge of the cement finishing blade. The position of the receiver is also dependent upon the style of cement rake being used. If the shaft of the cement rake is positioned in a central location near or at an edge of the rake blade then the receiver may be positioned at the center of the cement finishing blade.

Although a single retainer may be used to connect the cement finishing blade to the rake blade, it is preferable that two retainers be used. The two retainers are preferably positioned near each peripheral side edge to provide greater stability and limit movement of the cement finishing blade when attached to the rake blade.

A shaft support may be positioned on the second face of the cement finishing blade for engaging the shaft of the cement rake. Preferably the shaft support is positioned at the first edge of the cement finishing blade. Shaft support may have a concave surface that helps to maintain position and stability of the cement finishing blade when engaged with the shaft of the cement rake.

Although the length of the cement finishing blade may be of any length, it is preferable that the cement finishing blade be the same length as or longer than the rake blade to which it is attached.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

These and other features will become more apparent from the following description in which reference is made to the appended drawings, the drawings are for the purpose of illustration only and are not intended to be in any way limiting, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a top plan view of a cement finishing attachment.

FIG. 2 is a front elevation view of the cement finishing attachment shown in FIG. 1.

FIG. 3 is an exploded view of the cement finishing attachment shown in FIG. 1 with a cement rake.

FIG. 4 is an exploded side elevation view of the cement finishing attachment shown in FIG. 1 with a cement rake.

FIG. 5 is a front elevation view of the cement finishing attachment shown in FIG. 1 attached to a cement rake.

FIG. 6 is a side elevation view of the cement finishing attachment shown in FIG. 1 attached to a cement rake.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

A cement finishing attachment for a cement rake generally identified by reference numeral 10, will now be described with reference to FIGS. 1 through 6.

Structure and Relationship of Parts:

Referring to FIG. 1, a cement finishing attachment 10 has a cement finishing blade 12 that has a first face 11, a second face 13, a first edge 14, a second edge 16 and peripheral side edges 18. Retainers 20 are positioned on second face 13 of cement finishing blade 12. In the embodiment shown, there are two retainers 20 that are positioned at second edge 16 of cement finishing blade 12; however, it will be understood that a single retainer 20 or several retainers 20 may be used. The two retainers 20 are preferably positioned near each peripheral side edge 18 to provide greater stability and limit movement of the cement finishing blade 12 when attached to the rake blade 32. Referring to FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, retainers 20 fix cement finishing blade 12 to a rake blade 32 of a cement rake 30. Referring to FIG. 1, a receiver 22 is positioned on second face 13 of cement finishing blade 12. Receiver 22 is preferably positioned at the center of cement finishing blade 12. Referring to FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, receiver 22 receives the shaft 34 of cement rake 30. A shaft support 24 is positioned on second face 13 at first edge 14 of cement finishing blade 12 which engages shaft 34 of cement rake 30 and helps to maintain position and stability of cement finishing blade 12 when engaged with shaft 34. Referring to FIG. 2, shaft support 24 has a concave surface 25 which cradles shaft 34 of the cement rake.

Referring to FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, in the embodiment shown, receiver 22 is made up of two portions, a fixed portion 26 and a removable portion 28. The two portions are connected together by a pin 29. It will be understood that different types of receivers 22 may be used, including a friction connection or clip.

Cement finishing blade 12 is preferably the same length as or longer than rake blade 32; however, it will be understood that a cement finishing blade 12 with a shorter length than rake blade 32 may also be used.

Operation:

Referring to FIG. 4, cement rake 30 and cement finishing attachment 10 are separate from each other with removable portion 28 of retainer 22 separated from fixed portion 26. Referring to FIG. 6, retainer 20 is slid onto rake blade 32 and shaft 34 is positioned within fixed portion 26 of receiver 22 with shaft support 24 receiving shaft 34. Removable portion 28 of receiver 22 is slid into place and pin 29 is used to hold fixed portion 26 and removable portion 28 of receiver 22 together.

Once cement finishing attachment 10 has been connected to cement rake 30, the cement rake 30 may be used during the levelling and smoothing of a cement pad and then rotated to allow first face 11 of cement finishing blade 12 to be used for levelling and smoothing

In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be one and only one of the elements.

The following claims are to be understood to include what is specifically illustrated and described above, what is conceptually equivalent, and what can be obviously substituted. The scope of the claims should not be limited by the preferred embodiments set forth in the examples, but should be given the broadest interpretation consistent with the description as a whole.
