Handbag with Changeable Accessory Pin

A handbag with an interchangeable accessory. In one embodiment, the handbag includes a side having a double pleat, each fold of the double fold having an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface of each fold defining an opening. The handbag further includes a removable accessory, having a first portion and a second portion, wherein the second portion of the removable accessory is positionable through the opening of each fold so as to locate the first portion of the removable accessory adjacent the outer surface of each fold.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates generally to clothing accessories and specifically to handbags.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The ability to modify a consumer product to make the product more distinctive and personalized is an almost universal desire of consumers. Consumer products frequently include options such as color, material, accessories, etc. in an attempt to increase the variability of a product to attract a larger group of buyers.

Handbags or purses are accessories which many women use as one focus of their fashion statement. As such, although a given handbag or purse may be a favorite of the woman, it may not be the correct match for the rest of the clothes for a given occasion. What is needed is a way to easily re-accessorize the handbag so as to help match the rest of the clothing for the occasion.

The present invention addresses this need.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to a handbag or purse (generally handbag). In one embodiment, the handbag includes a sidewall having a pleat having a double fold, each fold of the double fold having an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface of each fold defining an opening. The handbag further includes a removable pin, having a first portion and a second portion, wherein the second portion of the removable pin is positionable through the opening of each fold so as to locate the first portion of the removable pin adjacent the outer surface of the pleat.

In another embodiment, the handbag further includes a grommet at each opening. In yet another embodiment, the first portion of the pin is decorative. In still yet another embodiment, the handbag further includes a zipper. In another embodiment, the handbag further includes a decorative pull.

In another embodiment, the handbag includes a side, having a pleat having a double fold, each fold of the double fold having an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface of each fold defining an opening; a grommet surrounds each opening; and a removable accessory having a first portion and a second portion. In still another embodiment, the second portion of the removable accessory is positionable through the opening of each fold so as to locate the first portion of the removable accessory adjacent the outer surface of each fold, and the first portion of the accessory is decorative. In yet another embodiment, the handbag includes a zipper having a decorative pull.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING

The objects and features of the invention can be better understood with reference to the drawings described below. The drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale; emphasis is instead being placed on illustrating the principles of the invention. DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT

Referring to FIG. 1, a handbag 10 constructed in accordance with the invention includes a first side 14, a second side 18, a front 22, a back 26, a bottom 30 and a top 34. The top 34 defines an opening into the handbag 10. In one embodiment, the top opening is sealable with a zipper. In one embodiment, the zipper pull of the zipper is attached to a decorative zipper pull fob 54 (see also detail in FIG. 6).

The first side 14 of the handbag 10 includes a pleat 38 that includes a first fold 42 and a second fold 46. In each of the back surfaces 50 of the folds 42 and 46 is a respective hole. An object inserted in one hole may pass behind the double fold 50 and out the other hole. Referring to FIG. 3, in one embodiment, the second side 18 of the handbag 10 also includes pleat 38′. In one embodiment, the pleat 38′ of the second side also includes folds having holes that allow the passage of an object.

Referring to FIG. 5, in one embodiment the handbag 10 includes an accessory 58, in one embodiment a pin, having an ornate portion 62 and an openable portion 66. Referring also to FIG. 4, a magnified view of the pleat 38, in one embodiment in each of the holes 68 in the back surface 50 of the folds 42, 26 are reinforced with a metal grommet 72.

When the openable portion 66 of accessory 58 is inserted through both holes 68, in the folds 42, 46 of the pleat 38 and closed, the decorative portion 62 of the accessory is positioned across the front of the pleat 38 as is shown in FIG. 2. Although shown as a pin, the accessory 58 may take on many forms provided it has an openable portion 66 that will pass through the holes on the folds to hold the accessory 58 in place.

1. A handbag comprising: wherein the second portion of the removable accessory is positionable through the opening of each fold so as to locate the first portion of the removable accessory adjacent the outer surface of each fold.

6. The handbag of claim 5 further comprising a decorative pull.

7. A handbag comprising: wherein the second portion of the removable pin is positionable through the opening of each fold so as to locate the first portion of the removable pin adjacent the outer surface of each fold, and wherein the first portion of the pin is decorative.
