CUSTOMIZABLE HANDBAG AND METHOD THEREFOR

Abstract

A customizable purse has a main storage compartment. A covering is removably attached to an exterior surface of the main storage compartment. The covering has a predefined depth to form an additional storage area on the main storage compartment.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to handbags, and more specifically, to a handbag which is customizable in appearance and size.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Handbags are commonly used by individuals to transport personal items such as wallets, identification, currency, glasses, cosmetics, and the like. Handbags come in a multitude of different styles, colors, designs and sizes. A variety of different colors and types of handbags may be required by a user of a handbag depending upon the occasion and the attire of the person using the handbag. Because of this, many individuals purchase multiple handbags.

Using several different handbags can cause issues for the individual user. When switching handbags, the individual must transfer the contents from existing handbag to the new handbag. Often when transferring items between handbags, items can be inadvertently left behind or even lost. Also, when switching handbags, the individual may find that not all the contents will fit in the new handbag.

Therefore, a need exists to provide a device and method to overcome the above problems of the prior art.

SUMMARY

In accordance with one embodiment, a customizable purse is disclosed. The customizable purse has a main storage compartment. A covering is removably attached to an exterior surface of the main storage compartment. The covering has a predefined depth to form an additional storage area on the main storage compartment.

In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, a customizable purse is disclosed. The customizable purse has a main storage compartment. A covering is removably attached to a pair of exterior surfaces of the main storage compartment. The covering has a predefined depth to form additional storage areas on the main storage compartment. At least one handle is removably attached to the main storage compartment.

The features, functions, and advantages can be achieved independently in various embodiments of the disclosure or may be combined in yet other embodiments.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring first to FIGS. 1-6, a customizable handbag 10 is shown. The customizable purse 10 may have a main storage compartment 12. The main storage compartment 12 may come in different shape and sizes. In the embodiment shown in the figures, the main storage compartment 12 has a rectangular shape having a rounded top surface. However, this should not be seen in a limiting manner. The main storage compartment 12 may come in other shape and sizes without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.

One or more handles 14 are removable attached to the main storage compartment 12. By having the handles removable coupled to the main storage compartment 12, one may place different handles 14 on the customizable purse 10 to change the look and appearance of the customizable purse 10. The handles 14 may come in different lengths, colors, styles and the like.

An attachment mechanism 16 may be used to removable attach the handles 14 to the main storage compartment 12. In accordance with the embodiment shown in the Figures, loop members 16A may be used to removable attach the handles 14 to the main storage compartment 12. The loop members 16A may have a release device 18 to remove the handles 14 from the main storage compartment 12. While loop members 16A are shown as the attachment mechanism 16, other attachment mechanisms 16 may be used without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.

A covering 18 may be applied to one or more exterior surfaces of the main storage compartment 12. The covering 18 may be used to change the appearance of the customizable purse 10. Different coverings 18 may be used. Each of the different coverings 18 may have different appearances, as shown in the Figures. As shown in FIG. 3, a pair of exterior surfaces of the main storage compartment 12 have the covering 18 applied thereto.

The covering 18 may be removable attached to the main storage compartment 12. Different attachment devices 20 may be used to removably attach the covering 18 to the main storage compartment 12. In the embodiments shown in the Figures, a zipper 20A is used. However, other attachment devices 20 may be used without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention. For example, hook and loop material, snaps, and the like may be used.

As shown in the Figures, the covering 18 may be formed of a predefined depth. This may allow the covering 18 to further function as an additional storage compartment 22 for the customizable purse 10. If the covering 18 is used as an additional storage compartment 22, the attachment device 20 should be one that fully secures the covering 18 to the main storage compartment 12 so that items placed in the additional storage compartment 22 do not fall out or are exposed so that others may take the items. As shown in the Figures, the zipper 20A is placed around the entire perimeter of the covering 18. Thus, the covering 18 is fully secured to the main storage compartment 12 so that one has to zip and unzip the additional storage compartment 22 to retrieve items.

The customizable purse 10 of the present invention allows one to interchange different handles 14 as well as to change the covering 18 to change the appearance of the customizable purse 10. The covering 18 may further be used as an additional storage compartment 22 thereby allowing the customizable purse to have more storage space.

While embodiments of the disclosure have been described in terms of various specific embodiments, those skilled in the art will recognize that the embodiments of the disclosure can be practiced with modifications within the spirit and scope of the claims.

Claims

1. A customizable purse comprising:

a main storage compartment; and

a covering removably attached to an exterior surface of the main storage compartment, wherein the covering has a predefined depth to form an additional storage area on the main storage compartment.

2. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 1, further comprising at least one handle removably attached to the main storage compartment.

3. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 2, further comprising:

loop attachment devices attached to the main storage compartment for removably attaching the at least one handle to the main storage compartment; and

a release device for opening and closing the loop to secure the at least one handle to the main storage compartment.

4. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 1, further comprising a zipper to removably attached the cover to the exterior surface of the main storage compartment.

5. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 4, wherein the zipper is attached to the entire perimeter of the cover.

6. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 1, wherein the covering is removably attached to a pair of exterior surface of the main storage compartment.

7. A customizable purse comprising:

a main storage compartment;

a covering removably attached to a pair of exterior surfaces of the main storage compartment, wherein the covering has a predefined depth to form additional storage areas on the main storage compartment; and

at least one handle removably attached to the main storage compartment.

8. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 7, further comprising:

loop attachment devices attached to the main storage compartment for removably attaching the at least one handle to the main storage compartment; and

a release device for opening and closing the loop to secure the at least one handle to the main storage compartment.

9. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 7, further comprising a zipper to removably attached the Cover to the exterior surfaces of the main storage compartment.

10. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 9, wherein the zipper is attached to the entire perimeter of the cover.

11. A customizable purse comprising:

a main storage compartment; and

a covering removably attached to an exterior surface of the main storage compartment, wherein the covering have a predefined depth to form an additional storage area on the main storage compartment; and

an attachment device formed around the entire perimeter of the covering to, removably attached the covering to the exterior surface of the main storage compartment.

12. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 11, further comprising at least one handle removably attached to the main storage compartment.

13. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 12, further comprising:

loop attachment devices attached to the main storage compartment for removably attaching the at least one handle to the main storage compartment; and

a release device for opening and closing the loop to secure the at least one handle to the main storage compartment.

14. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 11, wherein the attachment device is a zipper.

16. A customizable purse in accordance with claim 11, wherein the covering is removably attached to a pair of exterior surface of the main storage compartment.
