Flattering Convertible Casual/Sleep Pants

Traditional pajama pant legs do not stay in place during sleep, and elastic-bottomed sweat pants are not flattering to most women. The pants proposed herein solve both problems by providing a multi-use garment that is flattering while also providing warmth and sleep comfort. The pants can be worn for sleep or lounging during cool weather, and yet convert to a flattering style that is appropriate for casual wear in public. These pants have ribbed cuffs at the ankles, which can be used in two ways: 1) the cuffs can be pulled down over the feet for warmth while sleeping or lounging; or 2) the cuffs can be worn at the ankle with the drapey pants fabric hanging down around them, hiding the cuffs underneath and making them appropriate to be worn in public. Further, the cuffs can be turned up or down, easily accommodating both longer and shorter legs.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

Traditional pajama pant legs do not stay in place during sleep, and elastic-bottomed sweat pants are not flattering to most women. The pants proposed herein solve both problems by providing a multi-use garment that is flattering while also providing warmth and sleep comfort. The pants can be worn for sleep or lounging during cool weather, and yet convert to a flattering style that is appropriate for casual wear in public.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

These pants have ribbed cuffs at the ankles, which can be used in two ways. 1) The cuffs can be pulled down over the feet for warmth while sleeping or lounging; or 2) the cuffs can be worn at the ankle with the drapey pants fabric hanging down around them, hiding the cuffs underneath and making them appropriate to be worn in public. Further, the cuffs can be turned up or down, easily accommodating both longer and shorter legs.

Because the cuffs can be pulled down over the feet, these pants not only stay in place but also afford the wearer the option of extra warmth while sleeping our lounging. When worn with the cuffs at the ankles, the extra inseam length provides a fashionable, non-cuffed look.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING

FIG. 1. The drawing depicts the pants in two ways. The right leg shows the cuff around the ankle, as it would be worn in public. The left leg shows the cuff pulled down over the foot, as it might be worn for sleeping or lounging.

FIG. 2. The drawing shows a see-through view of the right pant leg, with the cuff turned up. This cuff position makes the pants hang longer.

FIG. 3. The drawing shows a see-through view of the right pant leg, with the cuff turned down. This cuff position makes the pants hang shorter.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION

At the waist, there is a wide ribbed waistband for comfort, with a drawstring added for further custom sizing. The pants fabric is warm yet lightweight, with a soft hand and a nice drape. It flows straight down from the hip, with 3″ ribbed-knit ankle cuffs sewn in approximately 10″ beyond the standard inseam length. The cuffs can thus be pulled over the feet for extra warmth while sleeping or lounging, or left around the ankles (with the pant legs draping over) for a flattering palazzo-pant appearance. If the cuffs are turned inward, the pants will hang longer; if they are pulled straight up, the pants will hang shorter.

Appropriate fabrics for these convertible lounge pants include ponte knits, cotton or poly interlock, ponteroma knits, butter suede, crepe, rayon challis, or any light- to medium-weight fabric with a soft hand and an easy drape.

These pants differ from standard pajama pants in that there are cuffs at the bottom to hold the pant legs down during sleep; they differ from footed pajamas in that they are not constricting. They differ from standard elastic-hemmed sweatpants in that they are flattering and can be worn for various casual occasions.

Claims

1. The scope of this invention encompasses the concept of making lounge pants suitable for both sleep and public wear by using an elastic or ribbed cuff or hem that can be pulled down past the feet for sleep or worn at the ankles to create the appearance of conventional slacks.
