SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR POKER GAME

The invention is a new form of two-player poker game having four up cards and one down card per hand. Each player plays five hands simultaneously, with the player having more winning hands being the winner. Down cards may be switched with the two cards remaining from the deck after all cards have been dealt.

BACKGROUND

1. Technical Field

Embodiments of the present invention relate generally to systems and methods for a poker game.

2. Description of Related Art

A variety of card games currently exist that fulfill a variety of niches.

However the world clamors for new diversions insatiably. Hence, an improved method for poker remains a long felt need.

BRIEF SUMMARY

The invention comprises a method of playing a two-player poker game comprising steps of:

    • a. dealing cards to each player in turn, the cards being arranged in face-up rows of five, until four rows are completed for each player;
    • b. dealing further cards to form a fifth face down row for each player;
    • c. dealing one held card to each player;
    • d. optionally replacing any face down card with said held card;
    • e. revealing the last fifth rows;
    • f. comparing each column of cards by means of agreed rules of poker hands;
    • g. judging the player with most winning hands to be the winner.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker hands comprise the standard rules of poker.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a straight beats a flush.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a plurality of cards may be exchanged with the opponent.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby the last card received is exchanged with the opponent.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby one of said face down cards is switched with another of said face down cards.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a flush beats a straight.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby the winner determines who takes the first card in the next game.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby said held card may be switched with any other card in said player's hand.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby only fifty cards are used to play, eliminating said held cards.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby said fifth row is dealt face up.

It is further within provision of the invention wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby each player chooses a card to be used as said held card.

 DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The following description is provided, alongside all chapters of the present invention, so as to enable any person skilled in the art to make use of said invention and sets forth the best modes contemplated by the inventor of carrying out this invention. Various modifications, however, will remain apparent to those skilled in the art, since the generic principles of the present invention have been defined specifically to provide a means and method for providing a system and method for a poker game.

In the following detailed description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of embodiments of the present invention. However, those skilled in the art will understand that such embodiments may be practiced without these specific details. Reference throughout this specification to “one embodiment” or “an embodiment” means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the invention.

The term ‘plurality’ refers hereinafter to any positive integer (e.g, 1, 5, or 10).

The term ‘row’ refers hereinafter to a set of five cards laid out in parallel, from right to left.

The term ‘column’ refers hereinafter to a set of five cards running downwards from each card of a row, containing in their final result the basic poker setup.

The invention comprises a novel poker game. The game is intended for two players only and is based on the basic rules of poker, except that in this variant the straight is stronger than the flush. In this game a standard 52 card deck is used.

The rules of the game are as follows.

    • a. Each player receives five cards from the deck, placed in a row and facing up such that the values are visible. The two players' rows are placed adjacent to each other to form two parallel rows. The cards are dealt by one of the players who deals cards in turn to himself and the opponent, from left to right. From the first ten cards dealt, if a three-of-a-kind or three pairs occur, the cards are re-dealt until no such condition is met.
    • b. After ten cards having no three-of-a-kind or three pairs is dealt, each player in turn draws a card from the deck, and must place it in line with one of the extant rows (or a new row, if all extant rows are filled (contain five cards)). As soon as a card is placed it may not be moved.
    • c. Cards are laid out to form rows; a card may be laid out into a new row only when the previous row of five is completed.
    • d. After four rows are completed each player begins to place new cards as before, one per turn, but now the players place the cards face down.
    • e. After the fifth row is completed, a single held card is left for each player.
    • f. Players may switch their held card with one of the cards in the fifth (face down) row.
    • g. The last stage of the game is the revelation of the fifth face-down card in the last row. Now one player's column is played against the second player's column, and the player having the most wins for his columns is the winner of the game.

Additional may be played in conjunction with the game. Amongst these are the following:

    • a. One or more cards may be exchanged with one's opponent during the game.
    • b. The last card received only is exchanged with the opponent.
    • c. One of the five face-down cards is switched with another of the face-down cards.
    • d. Flush beats a straight
    • e. The winner determines who takes the first card in the next game, or the winner begins in all cases.
    • f. Switch the last card with any of the cards in the rows.
    • g. Play with only 50 cards
    • h. Play the last row face up instead of face down.
    • i. Pulling one card from each player during the course of the game for use as the last card.

The rules of the game can be better appreciated by referring to the figures. In FIG. 1 the start of one players hand is laid out; a first row has been completed and a second started.

In FIG. 2 the third row has been completed and a fourth started.

In FIG. 3 the hand has been completed, with four face up rows of five and a fifth face down row of five.

In FIG. 4 two adjacent hands for two players are shown; each player has in effect five poker hands. Each column on the left is compared to the corresponding column on the right, and the player with more winning hands is the winner.

In FIG. 5 each player is left with the winning hands, hence showing the upper player is the winner.

Although selected embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, it is to be understood the present invention is not limited to the described embodiments. Instead, it is to be appreciated that changes may be made to these embodiments without departing from the principles and spirit of the invention, the scope of which is defined by the claims and the equivalents thereof.

Claims

1. A method of playing a two-player poker game comprising steps of:

a. dealing cards to each player in turn, the cards being arranged in face-up rows of five, until four rows are completed for each player;
b. dealing further cards to form a fifth face down row for each player;
c. dealing one held card to each player;
d. optionally replacing any face down card with said held card;
e. revealing the last fifth rows;
f. comparing each column of cards by means of agreed rules of poker hands;
g. judging the player with most winning hands to be the winner.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said agreed rules of poker hands comprise the standard rules of poker.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a straight beats a flush.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a plurality of cards may be exchanged with the opponent.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby the last card received is exchanged with the opponent.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby only fifty cards are used to play, eliminating said held cards.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby said fifth row is dealt face up.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby each player chooses a card to be used as said held card.

13. A two-player poker game comprising:

a. a set of four face-up rows of five cards that are dealt to each player in turn;
b. a fifth row of face down cards dealt in turn to each player;
c. a single remaining held card to each player;
d. a rule allowing replacement any face down card with said held card;
e. the last fifth rows now face up;
f. a comparison of each column of cards with the corresponding column f the two players, by means of agreed rules of poker hands;
g. a judgment of the player with most winning hands to be the winner.

14. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker hands comprise the standard rules of poker.

15. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a straight beats a flush.

16. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a plurality of cards may be exchanged with the opponent.

17. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby the last card received is exchanged with the opponent.

18. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby one of said face down cards is switched with another of said face down cards.

19. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby a flush beats a straight.

20. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby the winner determines who takes the first card in the next game.

21. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby said held card may be switched with any other card in said player's hand.

22. The game of claim 13 wherein said agreed rules of poker comprise a rule whereby only fifty cards are used to play, eliminating said held cards.
