Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a protective cover for a bow cam.

2. Description of Related Art

Hunting is a hobby enjoyed by many individuals who may hunt various types of game animals. Game animals may range from large or big game animals such as deer, moose, elk or caribou or alternatively smaller game such as rabbits, squirrels, raccoons or possums. Some hunters hunt for furring animals such as beavers, foxes or bobcats. Further birds are also game for some hunters such as ducks, geese, or wild turkeys. Many hunters use guns or firearms to hunt game. Other hunters prefer using bows to hunt their particular game.

Bow hunting involves the use of a bow and arrows to shoot and capture game. The modern bow and arrow used by many hunters involves a cam system that is used to guide the string of the bow while preparing the arrow for launch. A bow includes a mainframe with limbs that extend from the frame where each limb includes a cam attached thereto. The bow string is then connected between the two cams in a vertical position thus allowing for the insertion of the arrow and extension of the bow string between the cams.

It is critical that the cam of the bow remains clear, clean and unobstructed. The cam system allows for the pulling of the bowstring and therefore affects the speed and accuracy of the arrow once it is released. As one can image in hunting situations it is sometimes difficult to keep the cam clean while maneuvering with the bow through a wooded area. Consequently, it would be advantageous to have a cover specially designed for a bow cam that may be placed over the cam while hunting. Further it is important that the cover be easily released when needed so that the hunter may effectively use the bow.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a bow cam cover for protecting a cam of a bow comprising: an outer surface; an opening, where the opening allows for the insertion of the cam; a top drawstring within a drawstring cover, where the drawstring cover extends around a perimeter of the opening; and a bottom drawstring extending from the outer surface. A low cut may be provided at a front portion of the perimeter. The top drawstring may include an adjustment tab, where the tab enables the adjustment of the top drawstring. The bottom drawstring may include a string adjustment to adjust the length of the bottom drawstring.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to a bow cam cover that is utilized to cover a cam of a hunting bow. The bow cam cover according to the present invention includes a drawstring that extends outwardly from an opening perimeter of the cam cover and a second drawstring that is provided for attachment purposes on the opposite side of the cam cover. The cam cover according to the present invention includes a deep cut on one side of the perimeter in order to accommodate a limb of the bow once the cover is placed over the cam. Further the cam holder may be used with an alternative belt strap use on one side thereof for attachment to the user's belt.

In reference to FIG. 1, a Bow Cam Cover 100 is depicted according to the present invention. The Bow Cam Cover 100 includes a Top Drawstring 22 extending from the Drawstring Cover 32 along the top perimeter of the Cover 100. An Opening 34 is provided in the cam cover 100 for the insertion of a cam. Along the Front Perimeter 33 of the cam cover 100, a lower cut is provided for the accommodation of a limb of the bow. Along the Top Drawstring 22 is an Adjustment Tab 21 is provided to adjust the tautness of the Drawstring 22 within the Drawstring Cover 32. A Bottom Drawstring 24 is also provided with a String Adjustment 25. At the end of the Drawstring 24 is a Connector 27 that is used to connect the bottom Drawstring 24 to a fixed an object such as a user's belt loop or an attachment means upon the bow. The outer surface of the Cam Cover 30 may consist of a waterproof material to provide additional protection for the cam wheel that is placed within the Cam Cover 100.

FIG. 1A depicts a side view of the Cam Cover 100 according to the present invention. The Cam cover 100 as shown includes the deep cut at the Front Perimeter 33. The cover depicted in FIG. 1A includes an alternative Belt Strap 42 that is used to replace the Bottom String 24 that was shown in FIG. 1. The Belt Strap 42 further includes a Connector 43 at the end thereof. FIG. 1B depicts a rear view of the cam cover according to present invention. Also shown is a Ring 35, where the Ring 35 provides a means attaching either Connector 27 or Connector 43 when not in use. The Outer Surface 30 is clearly depicted in FIG. 1B and as stated above may be made of waterproof materials to provide adequate protection of the cam cover according to the present invention.

FIG. 2 depicts the placement of the Cam Cover 100 upon a Cam 54 of a Bow 50. As shown in FIG. 2 the Bow 50 includes a Top Cam 52 and the Bottom Cam 54. The Cam Cover 100 is placed over the Cam 54 and provides adequate protection to cover and protect the Cam 54 during use. The Bow 50 is shown in a horizontal position with the Cam Cover 100 protecting the Cam 54. FIG. 3A depicts the Bow 50 in a vertical position whereas the Cam 54 is placed inside the cam cover according to the present invention. As shown the cam cover completely covers the Cam 54 and provides adequate protection of the Cam 54 during use thereof. The Drawstrings 22, 24 may be adjusted as needed to secure the cam Cover 100 over the Cam 54 as needed. FIG. 3B shows the opposite side of the Bow 50 while the cam cover 100 is enclosed over the Cam 54. The deep cut in the Front Perimeter 33 is more easily shown in FIG. 3B and allows for the extension of the lower limb of the Bow 50.

The cam cover according to the present invention provides a means for the hunter to protect each cam area of the bow while hunting or possibly for storage purposes. The drawstrings allow the user to close the opening as needed to secure cam cover over the respective cam. Further the connecting means provided at one end of the drawstring allows the user to actually connect the bow to their belt loop or other stationary object while transporting the bow. The instant invention has been shown and described in what it considers to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made there from within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
