Roof Fascia Soffit Trim
A trim piece that encapsulates the roof, soffit and fascia of a building is described in addition to methods of making and installing the trim piece. The trim piece member provides, among other things, wind protection for buildings. The single piece of shaped trim is installed over roof members, fascia and soffit, and is attached to the wall. The trim member includes among other things, drip edges, ventilation holes, and a features that allows for condensation to collect and drip out of the inside of the installed trim. The trim is preferably comprised of a corrosion resistant aluminum-zinc alloy applied on steel by a continuous hot-dip process.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention is in the technical field of combined fascia and soffit members. More particularly, the present invention is in the technical field of combined soffit and fascia members that are used to provide weather resistant features for buildings.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention is a trim piece that encapsulates the roof, soffit and fascia of a building. The trim piece member provides, among other things, wind protection for buildings. The single piece of shaped trim is installed over roof members, fascia and soffit, and is attached to the wall. The trim member includes among other things, drip edges, ventilation holes, and a features that allows for condensation to collect and drip out of the inside of the installed trim. The trim is preferably comprised of a corrosion resistant aluminum-zinc alloy applied on steel by a continuous hot-dip process.

The preferred embodiment is a trim piece made from steel having a corrosion resistant aim. zinc alloy applied by a continuous hot-dip process. One such product has the trade name Galvalume.
The advantages of the present invention include, without limitation, a trim piece that encapsulates the roof decking, soffit and fascia, such that a building has additional protection from wind and rain.
in broad embodiment, the present invention is a single trim piece that may be installed on a building to encapsulate the roof decking, soffit and fascia of a building.

Claims
1. A single-piece soffit and facia plate comprising;
- a roof nailer;
- a side piece extending downwardly from said roof nailer;
- at least one drip feature on said side piece;
- a horizontal piece extending inwardly from said at least one drip feature or said side piece;
- said horizontal piece having a series of bends positioned end-to-end,
- a final piece extending downwardly from said series of bends.
2. The single-piece soffit and facia plate of claim 1, wherein one of said at least one drip features is a corner wherein said corner comprises a ninety-degree bend from said side piece, a horizontal section, a second ninety-degree bend from said horizontal section, a vertical section extending upwardly, and a third ninety-degree bend from said vertical section to said horizontal piece.
3. The single-piece soffit and facia plate of claim 1, wherein said horizontal piece further comprises at least one v-bend, wherein said v-bend further includes at least one weep hole.
4. The single-piece soffit and facia plate of claim 1, wherein said horizontal piece includes a plurality of vent holes.
5. The single-piece soffit and facia plate of claim 1, wherein the single plate is made of corrosion resistant material.
6. The single-piece soffit and facia plate of claim 1, wherein the single plate is made of zinc-aluminum alloy.
7. A method of encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building comprising:
- attaching a single piece of material to the roof of a structure, wherein said single piece of material comprises; a roof nailer; a side piece extending downwardly from said roof nailer; at least one drip feature on said side piece; a horizontal piece extending inwardly from said at least one drip feature or said side piece; said horizontal piece having a series of bends positioned end-to-end, a final piece extending downwardly from said series of bends; and, attaching said final piece to a wall of said structure.
8. The method of claim 7, wherein the attaching steps further comprise using corrosion resistant attachment materials.
9. The method of encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 7, wherein one of said at least one drip features is a corner wherein said corner comprises a ninety-degree bend from said side piece, a horizontal section, a second ninety-degree bend from said horizontal section, a vertical section extending upwardly, and a third ninety-degree bend from said vertical section to said horizontal piece.
10. The method of encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 7, wherein said horizontal piece further comprises at least one v-bend, wherein said v-bend further includes at least one weep hole.
11. The method of encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 7, wherein said horizontal piece includes a plurality of vent holes.
12. The method of encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 7, wherein the single plate is made of corrosion resistant material.
13. The method of encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 7, wherein the single plate is made of zinc-aluminum alloy.
14. A method of creating a single piece of material for encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building comprising:
- bending material to create are obtuse angle creating a first a roof nailer and a side piece;
- bending said material on said side piece to create at least one drip feature;
- bending said material on said side piece with an approximate right angle to create a horizontal piece extending inwardly from said at least one drip feature or said side piece; and,
- bending a series of bends end-to-end in said horizontal piece.
15. A method of creating a single piece of material for encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 14, wherein bending one of said at least one drip features comprises bending a ninety-degree bend on said side piece, bending a second ninety-degree bend, a bending a third ninety-degree bend in the opposite direction of the first two ninety degree bends.
16. A method of creating a single piece of material for encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 14, further comprising at least one v-bend on said horizontal piece, and further comprises removing material on the fulcrum of said v-bend to create at least one weep hole.
17. A method of creating a single piece of material for encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 14, further comprising removing material between said series of bends and said approximate right angle to create vent holes in said horizontal piece.
18. A method of creating a single piece of material for encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 14, wherein the single plate is made of corrosion resistant material.
19. A method of creating a single piece of material for encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 14, wherein the single plate is made of zinc-aluminum
20. A method of creating a single piece of material for encapsulating the roof decking, soffit and facia of a building of claim 14, further comprising attaching said single piece to a structure.
