Swimming Pool Pump Motor Cover

The Stockly Swimming Pool Pump Motor Cover protects both sides; top, and front of the swimming pool pump motor from sun, rain, sprinklers and morning dew. It has an optional base, which secures the top in one place and does not restrict ventilation to the swimming pool pump motor. No tools are required.

Description
CROSS—REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS—PROVISIONAL APPLICATION NUMBER 61/621,367 FEDERALLY SPONSORED RESEARCH—NOT APPLICABLE SEQUENCE LISTING OR PROGRAM—NOT APPLICABLE FIELD OF INVENTION

The invention relates to pool pump motor covers, more specifically to swimming pool pump motor covers.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

New energy efficient legislation mandated by the State of Florida and other states requires the single speed main circulation pump motors be replaced with two speed or variable speed motors when they fail. Two speed or variable speed motors will be required for new swimming pool construction. This is a large investment for existing and new swimming pool owners. Uncovered swimming pool pump motors fail prematurely due to sun, rain, lawn sprinklers and morning dew. As motors deteriorate energy consumption rises and motor replacements are expensive. Covering your motor protects your investment and preserves your motors efficiency. My motor cover protects all sides and the bottom from the elements and does not come in contact with the motor. It has an optional base which keeps the motor secure and in one place.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Covering a swimming pool pump motor with my cover keeps the motor the motor dry and protects against rust. The Stockly pool pump motor cover(s) are designed and engineered to provide an environment to expand the life and efficiency of the swimming pool pump motor. Preserving motor efficiency will help to reduce operating costs and save on energy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS

The drawings and measurements show two (2) models of a swimming pool pump motor cover. One model is labeled M-1 for use with single and two speed motors. A second model is labeled M-1A for use with variable speed motors.

Drawing Page Number 1-5 displays the front elevation of pool pump motor cover M-1.

Drawing Page Number 2-5 displays side elevation of the pool pump motor cover model M-1.

Drawing Page Number 3-5 displays front elevation of pool pump motor cover M-1A.

Drawing Page Number 4-5 displays side elevation of pool pump motor cover M-1A.

Drawing Page Number 5-5 displays a three-dimensional drawing of either model M-1 or M-1A pool pump motor cover.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Pool Pump Motor covers presently on the market does not provide adequate protection from the elements, thereby causing swimming pool pump motors to rust prematurely. My pool pump motor cover (s) have unique features that other pool pump covers do not have. Each cover is made of durable PVC with no exposed seams. The white cover reflects the sunrays and the attached top provides rain/ water runoff. Front and rear openings provide generous airflow. These features provide the extra protection that reduces and/or eliminates rust, which is the prime source of motor failure. See my covers described as M-1 and M-1A in the drawings on pages 1-5 thru 5-5

Material Data

The Cover and Optional Base are made of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) construction. Cover is secured to optional base.

Consists of Base with 2 8/32×½″ nylon thumbscrews.

Dimensional Data

Cover Model M-1: For use with single speed motor or two speed swimming pool pump motor covers, 16 ¼″ long×⅝″ high×12″ wide.

Cover Model M-1A: For use with variable speed swimming pool pump motors, 16¼″ long×14⅜″ high and ×12″ wide.

Base Optional: For use with M-1 and M-1A covers models 11½″ wide and 22 inches long.

Ventilation Data

The front of the swimming pool motor has a baffle to prevent water from entering, ventilation is provided at the top and bottom of the cover. The back of the cover is open for generous airflow.

Relationship Between The Components

The swimming pool pump motor consists of a top, optional base and two nylon screws. The top is secured to the base with the two nylon thumbscrews.

How the Invention Works

The swimming pool pump motor cover can be used to cover swimming pool, spa, and water feature pump motors. The swimming pool pump motor cover provides protection from the sun, rain, lawn sprinklers and morning dew, all of which contribute to motor failure. Motors that run efficiently have a smaller carbon footprint. Longer functioning motors reduce the need for new motors and disposal of failed motors into our landfills. All this contributes to a green energy product. The swimming pool cover is easy to install without the use of tools. The cover can easily be removed for service to keypad programming for the variable speed motors.

How to Make the Invention

The swimming pool pump motor cover is constructed using Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) consisting of a top and base. To complete the fabrication a baffle and eave are welded (glued) into place on front of the cover leaving the back of the cover open. The final step is to drill and tap an 8/32″ hole on each side of the optional base and drilling a ¼″ hole on the cover on each side to align with tapped holes in optional base. This will allow the two nylon thumbscrews to secure and cover the base.

How to Use the Invention

The base for the swimming pool pump motor cover would slide under the base of the pump and will be held in place by the weight of the pump. The cover would be installed over the swimming pool pump motor and attached to optional base using two nylon screws.

Claims

1. The claimed invention differs from what currently exists. Existing covers shield the top of the motor only, but will allow rain and water from sprinklers access to the ends of the motor and underneath the motor casing where the motor rusts. My motor cover is a house that fits over the motor. The cover has three sides and can be secured to an optional base by 2-nylon thumbscrews. No tools are necessary to install the cover and the cover provides much more protection from the elements. There are no mechanical attachments to pool equipment. It allows for adequate ventilation. Covers without the optional base are simply placed over the pool pump motor. The invention is an improvement to what currently exists. Existing models cover tops and sides of the motor leaving the front exposed to the elements. The attachment used to secure it to the motor is plastic and easily breaks. The design run of temperature of the motor causes a clamp to turn brittle and fail leaving the motor cover not secure. My motor cover protects all sides and bottom from the elements and does not come in contact with the motor. It has an optional base, which is designed to secure and keep cover in one place. When the cover is in place, it does not restrict ventilation to the pump motor.
