Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Problem Solved by the Invention

Holsters for concealed carry are not structured to both conceal the profile of the firearm, and provide easy, yet secure access to the firearm with complete transferability from one platform to another.

Other devices currently available are either not moveable from platform to platforms, are obvious gun profile holsters or don't provide the structure and stability needed for a safe holster.

This holster system design holds the firearm in a secure, accessible position while providing enough structure to prevent the firearm “profile” from view. The streamlined system design also allows the holster to be easily installed to and removed from a wide variety of clothing and accessories platforms, including motor vehicle interiors. One holster system can also accommodate multiple models of firearms, as the system is designed by size, not by exact hand gun model.

The outer pouch of the system can be manufactured of various fabrics, including leather and fashion fabrics to allow the system to camouflage and conceal the fact that it is a holster system, by either blending into the platform, or by using the materials of manufacture to hide the purpose of the system.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Holsters for concealed carry are not structured to conceal the profile of the firearm, provide easy, yet secure access to the firearm, securely stow multiple types of firearms by size, and allow complete, concealed transferability from one platform to another. The method design claimed here solves all of these problems.

The claimed holster method design allows for the concealment of the firearm in a secure, sturdy, yet easily accessible design that can be easily transferred from various motor vehicles to clothing, bags, purses, laptop bags, etc. while remaining concealed.

The claimed method design differs from what currently exists by combining the security and stability of a holster, with easy accessibility to the firearm for personal defense, complete concealment, the ability to securely hold a variety of handguns based on size, not model, and simple, convenient transfer from platform to platform.

Because it solves all these problems, this invention is an improvement on any other individual concealed carry holster system that currently exists. The addition of the simple, fashion pouch to the functional holster adds to the transferability and concealment of the firearm.

Holsters on the market are not designed to be transferred from clothing, to purses, to attaches, to motor vehicles with a simple modification of the platform by using a 4′ by 6′ loop section of loop fastener. Most concealed carry holsters are single-type firearm, or are completely integrated into a single platform.

This holster design holds the firearm in a secure, accessible position while providing enough structure to prevent the firearm “profile” from showing. The streamlined design also allows the holster to be easily installed and removed into and out of a wide variety of clothing and accessories platforms, including motor vehicles. One size holster can also accommodate multiple models of firearms as the holster is based on overall handgun size, not actual model or manufacturer.

This holster system will not impede the operation of the semi-automatic slide, or the revolver cylinder rotation and therefore can be fired without draw in situations where draw from the holster isn't an option.

The Version of the Invention Discussed here Includes:

    • 1. Gather Necessary Materials for Holster (patterns, outer material, interlining/stabilizer, inner/lining material, 2 inch wide, industrial grade hook and loop tape, sewing machine and notions). Gather Necessary Materials for Concealment Pouch (patterns, outer material, interlining/stabilizer, internal material, 2 inch wide, industrial grade hook and loop tape, sewing machine and notions, 4 inch wide, industrial grade loop tape).
    • 2. Select pattern based on firearm size (micro-compact, sub-compact, compact, or full-size).
    • 3. Transfer holster pattern to “right side” (herein referring to the side of the fabric intended to be seen) of outer material and right side of inner material, and concealment pouch pattern to “wrong side” (herein referring to the side of the fabric not meant to be seen) of outer material, and right side of inner material.
    • 4. Attach 2 inch hook and loop tape to the outside and inside of holster and pouch per pattern.
    • 5. Layer holster fabrics per pattern and attach along pattern markings. Repeat with concealment pouch fabrics.
    • 6. Sew inner holster fabric and interlining per firearm profile markings and trim ½ inch of excess fabric. Sew outer holster fabric at sides and turn right sides out. Tuck raw edges at bottom under and top stitch to close. Turn concealment pouch “right sides out, turn top edge under and topstitch to finish.

Relationship Between the Components:

Fabrics and materials work together to form a safe, secure holster system which hides the “profile” of the firearm, while allowing ambidextrous carry and simple installation and removal to and from multiple platforms. The use of the stabilizer/interlining prevents holster or pouch sag from the weight of the firearm. The use of industrial grade hook and loop tape aids in securing the firearm into the holster, the holster into the concealment pouch, and the concealment pouch to the chosen platform.

How the Invention Works:

The general, rectangular shape of the holster was chosen to conceal the fact that the item is a holster at all. The outer fabric of the concealment pouch is selected to conceal or camouflage the identification of this item as a firearms holster. The interlining/stabilizing layer is designed to lend strength and stiffness to the holster to handle the weight of the firearm, the interior/lining fabric is designed to protect the firearm from wear while allowing the easy removal of the firearm from the holster. The overall shape of the interior fabric is the profile of the firearm. This prevents the firearm from moving in the holster, or “tumbling” and provides a secure, safer structure than a simple “pocket” design. The hook and loop tape on the outer sides of the holster allow for easy, yet secure installation of the holster into the concealment pouch, or direct installation to many platform applications and also allows for ambidextrous use. The two ½ inch hook and loop closures at the inside top of the holster secures the firearm into the holster, while allowing for ease of access to the firearm.

The 4 inch wild loop tape strip can be adhered to multiple platform surfaces ad allows for secure, simple installation and ease of transferability between multiple platforms. The concealment pouch provides an additional level of concealment by either blending into the concealment platform such as auto interiors, clothing, and purses/bags, or by appearing to be a fashion accessory. The concealment pouch also offers storage between the pouch and holster for speed loading strips or extra firearms magazines. The pouch and holster system can easily be carried as a clutch-type bag for an additional mode of use and functionality.

How to Make the Invention:

    • 1. Gather items as follows for holster: ½ yard each—outer fabric, 2-ply buckram interlining/stabilizer (for full size system, double the ply to 4-ply), padded or quilted inner fabric, 1 yard 2 inch wide hook and loop tape, thread, sewing machine, pattern sized for firearm, scissors, pins.
    • 2. Align and stack double layer of all fabrics right sides together, place pattern on fabric and cut 2 of each fabric. Transfer firearm profile on pattern to 1 layer of interlining.
    • 3. Transfer hook tape pattern to right side of outer fabric and right side of inner fabric.
    • 4. Align hook tape with markings and sew onto fabrics.
    • 5. Align each side of the holster fabrics as follows: outer fabric right (hook tape) side up, next place inner fabric right side down and interlining fabric (1 with pattern side up) on top.
    • 6. Sew through top edge of holster through all three layers of one side, repeat with other side. Trim top seam allowance fold and press the outer fabric up and away from interlining and lining.
    • 7. Sew along the pattern lines for the firearm profile, backstitching at start and stop. Trim the outer edges of the interlining and lining layers by ¼ inch. Align the two outer layers, still away from lining and interlining. Starting 1/8 from the top seam line and per the seam allowance on the pattern, sew down each side of the outer fabric through all layers, backstitching at the start and stop.
    • 8. Turn the outer layer right side out over the lining and interlining, press and trim as needed.
    • 9. Fold the bottom, raw edge under on each side, press and topstitch closed.
    • 10. Gather items for the concealment pouch as follows: ½ yard each outer fabric, 2-ply buckram interlining (again, double the ply for full size system) and lining. 1 yard-2 inch loop tape, thread, sewing machine, scissors, pins.
    • 11. Repeat steps 2-4 (omit transferring firearm profile), this time using loop tape on the inside lining fabric and hook tape on the back only of the outer fabric
    • 12. Align fabrics as follows: outer fabric right side down, interlining, lining fabric right side up on top, repeat with other side. Place two halves together with right sides of outer fabric together, align and sew through all layers at sides and bottom, backstitching at start and stop.
    • 13. Trim and finish seams to reduce bulk. Trim interfacing and lining at top edge by ½ inch.
    • 14. Edge finish top seam of outer fabric, turn under, press and top stitch.

All of the listed elements are necessary for the holster system to provide the safety, stability, firearm access and concealment for the holster system. The holster itself can be used without the concealment pouch, or additional pouches can be added for concealment in multiple platforms, simply with the removal of holster from a concealment pouch, and the simple installation of the holster into another concealment pouch. The shape of the holster hides the fact that it holds a firearm, so the transfer can be done in public without violation of concealment.

The 4 inch wide, industrial grade loop tape can be installed, horizontally, vertically, or angled for best accessibility and security for the chosen platform. The pouch or holster can then be positioned in any angle desired for carry for a full 180 degrees. This allows full customization of system position among multiple users, especially useful in motor vehicles.

How to Use the Invention:

A simple installation of the 4 inch wide, industrial grade loop tape onto the chosen platform (either though included industrial adhesive or by sewing onto platform, this holster system can easily be moved to and from various platforms (i.e. purses, vests, totes, attaches, jackets, laptop bags, motorcycle saddle bags, motor vehicles, etc.) without having to unholster and expose the firearm to view or to make the owner purchase multiple holsters specifically made for an exact firearm model or platform.

Once the loop tape is installed on the platform, simply chose whether to install the holster into the pouch in a left-hand, or right-hand configuration. Fold the holster in half, or place a piece of paper on each side of the holster and work the holster into the pouch until it is fully seated and opened. If using the paper installation method, then slide the paper from the system and ensure holster is fully seated. Check to make certain that the hook and loop tapes are securely fastened between the holster and pouch. Insert chosen firearm and secure the hook and loop closures on the holster to secure the firearm in place. Install, at preferred angle (up to 180 degrees on the horizontal, depending on the loop tape angle) by pressing the system against the loop tape on the platform until securely adhered.

If an additional ammunition magazine, or speed-load strip is carried, the space between the pouch and holster on either side has a space between the hook and loop fasteners that will hold regular capacity magazines. It is also a convenient pocket for cell phone or cash/credit cards for carry of the pouch as a clutch-type purse. This holster system is designed to perform this function while securing the firearm in a sturdy, safe manner, and in such a way that the firearm “profile” is not exposed. This holster system can easily be graded up or down from a micro-compact, sub-compact, compact or full-size system to accommodate a wide variety of firearms, not simply a specific model. The holster system works with both semi-automatic and revolver style handguns, and is ambidextrous and, thus, can be reversed from platform to platform depending on the preferred configuration for ease of access and safe firearms handling. This holster system will not impede the operation of the semi-automatic slide, or the revolver cylinder rotation and therefore can be fired without draw in situations where draw from the holster isn't an option.
