SEAT PAD ADJUSTABLE CHAIR

A chair includes a seat portion having two recesses in which two resilient members of the adjustment device are received. A seat pad unit is located on the seat portion and has a left pad and a right pad. The left and right pads are rested on the resilient members. A bearing unit is located at the underside of the seat pad unit and connected to a fixing frame on the seat portion. The left and right pads of the bearing unit are pivotable relative to the seat portion.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a chair, and more particularly, to a chair with an adjustable seat pad unit.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Chairs play an important role in the modern world and people spend longer time sitting in the chairs everyday. For people work in offices, most of the time in a day is sitting in chairs. The design of a chair means a lot to the health of the users. The conventional chair is disclosed in FIG. 1 and comprises a seat portion and a backrest, the shape of the seat portion and the backrest should be made to meet ergonomic requirements. Some users put extra pads at the rear of the body so as to provide better support to the waist. Some users are used to cross their legs. The seat portion of the conventional chairs cannot be adjusted corresponding to the poses mentioned above.

The present invention intends to provide a chair wherein the seat portion can be adjusted to meet the needs of different users.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a chair and comprises a seat portion having two recesses defined in the top thereof and a fixing frame extends from the seat portion and is located close to the backrest. An adjustment device has a tube with two resilient members connected on two ends thereof. The two resilient members are received in the recesses. A seat pad unit is located on the seat portion and has a left pad and a right pad. A bearing unit is located at the underside of the seat pad unit and the fixing frame extends through the bearing unit. The seat pad unit is pivotable relative to the seat portion.

The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring to FIGS. 2, 3, 4, 4-1, 5 and 5-1, the chair of the present invention comprises a seat portion 1 which has two recesses 11 defined in the top thereof and multiple connection holes 112 are defined around the each of the recesses 11 so as to secure the adjustment unit 21. A fixing frame 13 is connected to the seat portion 1 and located close to the backrest 12. The fixing frame 13 has a transverse bar 132 and grooves 131 are defined in the outer periphery of the transverse bar 132 so as to be connected with a bearing unit 4. Each of the recesses 11 in the top of the seat portion 1 is a semi-circular recess, a rectangular recess, a square recess or a polygonal recess.

An adjustment device 2 has the adjustment unit 21 and a fixing unit 22, wherein the adjustment unit 21 has a tube 212 with two resilient members 211 connected on two ends thereof. The fixing unit 22 extends from the adjustment unit 21 and has protrusions 221 extending therefrom which are fixed to the seat portion 1 by connecting the multiple fixing members 222 with the connection holes 112 of the seat portion 1. The resilient members 211 are hollow members and liquid or air is filled in the resilient members 211. The resilient members 211 have flexibility, when one resilient member 211 is compressed, the other resilient member 211 expands. Each of the resilient members 211 is a semi-circular member, a rectangular member, a square member or a polygonal member.

A seat pad unit 3 has a left pad 31 and a right pad 32, and the seat pad unit 2 is located on the seat portion 1. The left and right pads 31, 32 respectively has an engaging member 311/321 and a tubular member 312/322 connected to the underside thereof. The engaging members 311, 321 engage the seat pad unit 3 with the fixing frame 13. Each of the tubular members 312, 322 has a bearing unit 4 received therein which provides resistance when the left and right pads 31, 32 are pivoted about the transverse bar 132.

Each of the bearing units 4 has a bearing 41 and a C-clip 42. The bearings 41 are located in the tubular members 312, 322 and the transverse bar 132 extends through the engaging members 311, 321 and the tubular members 312, 322, the C-clips 42 is engaged with the grooves 131 of the transverse bar 132 to secure the seat pad unit 3 to the fixing frame 13.

When the seat portion 1, the adjustment device 2, the seat pad unit 3 and the bearing unit 4 are assembled, an outer portion 5 is mounted to the chair to have aesthetic outer appearance.

When the user's weight is evenly applied to the left and right pads 31, 32, the two resilient members 211 are balanced to support the weight of the user. The user feels comfortable because the resilient members 211. When the left pad 31 is applied by a force that is larger than that applied to the right pad 32, the resilient member 211 under the left pad 31 is compressed and the liquid or air flows to the resilient member 211 located under the right pad 32. The right pad 32 expands to support the right side of the user's body.

FIGS. 6 and 7 shows the second embodiment, wherein the resilient members 211 and the tube 212 are replaced by a link mechanism. The seat portion 1 has a support rod 14 extending from the underside thereof. The transverse link 141 has the central portion thereof pivotably connected to the support rod 14. Two rods 313, 323 respectively extend from the left pad 31 and the right pad 32 of the seat pad unit 3. The two rods 313, 323 are pivotably connected to two ends of the transverse link 141. Therefore, when the left pad 31 is compressed, the right pad 32 is raised by the actions of the two rods 313, 323.

The driving device 4 may have only the engaging members 311, 321 and the tubular members 312, 322, and the bearings 41 and C-clips 42 are omitted. By the adjustment device 2, the desired function is also achieved.

While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims

1. A chair comprising:

a seat portion having two recesses defined in a top thereof and a fixing frame connected to the seat portion and located close to a backrest;
an adjustment device and having a tube with two resilient members connected on two ends thereof, the two resilient members partially received in the recesses;
a seat pad unit having a left pad and a right pad, the seat pad unit located on the seat portion, and
a bearing unit located at an underside of the seat pad unit and the fixing frame extending through the bearing unit, the seat pad unit being pivotable relative to the seat portion.

2. The chair as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of the recesses in the top of the seat portion is a semi-circular recess, a rectangular recess, a square recess or a polygonal recess.

3. The chair as claimed in claim 2, wherein connection holes are defined around each of the recesses.

4. The chair as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fixing frame has a transverse bar and grooves are defined in an outer periphery of the transverse bar.

5. The chair as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of the resilient members is a semi-circular member, a rectangular member, a square member or a polygonal member.

6. The chair as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adjustment unit has protrusions extending therefrom which are fixed to the seat portion by multiple fixing members.

7. The chair as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bearing unit has engaging members, tubular members, bearings and C-clips.

8. A chair comprising:

a seat portion having a support rod extending from an underside thereof, a fixing frame connected to the seat portion and located close to a backrest;
an adjustment device having a transverse link and two rods, the transverse link having a central portion thereof pivotably connected to the support rod, a seat pad unit having a left pad and a right pad, the seat pad unit located on the seat portion, the two rods respectively extending from the left pad and the right pad of the seat pad unit, the two rods pivotably connected to two ends of the transverse link, and
a bearing unit located at an underside of the seat pad unit and the fixing frame extending through the bearing unit, the seat pad unit being pivotable relative to the seat portion.

9. The chair as claimed in claim 8, wherein the fixing frame has a transverse bar and grooves are defined in an outer periphery of the transverse bar.

10. The chair as claimed in claim 8, wherein the bearing unit has engaging members, tubular members, bearings and C-clips.
