POUCH STORAGE COMPARTMENT FOR A VEHICLE

Abstract

Some embodiments of the present disclosure include a storage compartment for storing personal items in a vehicle. The storage compartment may include a pouch having a front side and a backside, the backside and the front side being attached to form a main cavity, a fastener positioned on the front side of the pouch, and a secondary cavity positioned on a backside of the pouch. The pouch may have a pair of upper corners, each of the upper corners including a mounting fastener configured to engage with a headrest post on a seat in a vehicle. The pouch may also have a pair of bottom corners, each of the bottom corners being configured to removably attach to the fastener on the front side of the pouch. In embodiments, the main cavity may be used to store a larger personal item, such as a purse or a laptop.

BACKGROUND

The embodiments herein relate generally to vehicle accessories, and more particularly, to a storage compartment for holding personal items in a vehicle.

Vehicles tend to have limited amount of storage space for personal items that keep the personal items safe, clean, and accessible. This results in drivers typically putting personal items on an open seat, on the floor, or in the trunk. When items are stored in the trunk, they are not easily accessible to the driver or other passengers. When items are stored on the floor, they tend to get dirty from dirt already on the floor or on passengers shoes. They may also be stepped on and crushed or otherwise damaged by passengers in the vehicle. When items are stored on an open seat, they tend to slide off the seat, which can result in damage to the item or, in the case of a bag, the contents of the bag or purse spilling everywhere. Additionally, when personal items are stored on the floor of a vehicle, passenger leg room is limited and, when items are stored on the seat, the number of passengers is limited.

Therefore, what is needed is a storage compartment that keeps personal items safe, clean, and accessible, while also not hindering the ability to drive or room for passengers.

SUMMARY

Some embodiments of the present disclosure include a storage compartment for storing personal items in a vehicle. The storage compartment may include a pouch having a front side and a backside, the backside and the front side being attached to form a main cavity, a fastener positioned on the front side of the pouch, and a secondary cavity positioned on a backside of the pouch. The pouch may have a pair of upper corners, each of the upper corners including a mounting fastener configured to engage with a headrest post on a seat in a vehicle. The pouch may also have a pair of bottom corners, each of the bottom corners being configured to removably attach to the fastener on the front side of the pouch.

However, it will be clear and apparent to one skilled in the art that the invention is not limited to the embodiments set forth and that the invention can be adapted for any of several applications.

The device of the present disclosure may be used to store personal belongings in a vehicle and may comprise the following elements. This list of possible constituent elements is intended to be exemplary only, and it is not intended that this list be used to limit the device of the present application to just these elements. Persons having ordinary skill in the art relevant to the present disclosure may understand there to be equivalent elements that may be substituted within the present disclosure without changing the essential function or operation of the device.

The various elements of the storage compartment device for storing personal items in a vehicle of the present disclosure may be related in the following exemplary fashion. It is not intended to limit the scope or nature of the relationships between the various elements and the following examples are presented as illustrative examples only.

By way of example, and referring to FIGS. 1-4, some embodiments of the storage compartment device of the present disclosure comprise a pouch 10 comprising a main cavity 24 having mounting fasteners 16, each configured to attach to a respective mount point, such as a seat mount point 30 or headrest post in a vehicle. For example, the pouch 10 may be configured to hang from a seat mount 30 on a driver's side seat 28 and a seat mount 30 on a passenger's side seat 28, such that the pouch 10 hangs between the two seats, as shown in FIG. 1.

The pouch 10 may attach to the seat mount point 30 using any conventional attachment devices. In embodiments, and as shown in FIGS. 1-3, the pouch 10 may include a grommet 12 in each upper corner of the pouch 10. The grommet 12 may attach to a mounting fastener 16 that attaches to the seat mount point 30. For example, as shown in FIG. 1, a shackle 14, such as a d-shackle, may attach to a mounting fastener 16, such as a gate ring, which is configured to engage with the seat mount point 30. When the grommet 12 is included, it may reduce the likelihood that the corners of the pouch 10 tear under the weight of the stored personal items. If necessary, a chain may attach to the gate rings for extra wide vehicles. In alternative embodiments, any other suitable attachment devices may be used to attach the pouch 10 to the seat mount point 30.

In embodiments, the pouch 10 may comprise a main cavity 24 configured to hold personal items, such as a purse 34, a laptop, a backpack, a tablet, toys, or any other personal items that a user desires to keep in a specific area, as shown in FIG. 4. In embodiments, the pouch 10 may be made out of any material, and the main cavity 24 may be lined with a lining 22, such as with a satin lining. Embodiments of the main cavity 24 may comprise a closing mechanism, such as a zipper, a hook and loop fastener, such as VELCRO, buttons, snaps, or ties, configured to close the opening of the main cavity 24.

The pouch 10 may also have a front side and a backside, a bottom portion, such as the bottom corners 26, of the pouch 10 being configured to fold upwards and attach to fasteners 18 on the front side of the pouch 10, as shown in FIG. 1. For example, there may be at least one fastener on the front side of the pouch, such that the bottom corners attach to the same fastener. Alternatively, there may be at least two fasteners, such that each bottom corner attaches to its own respective fastener. When the bottom corners 26 are folded upwards and attached to the fasteners 18 on the front side of the pouch 10, the size of the main cavity 24 may be reduced, and the leg room for passengers may be enlarged. The fasteners 18 may be any conventional fasteners, such as buttons, snaps, ties, or a hook and loop fastener, such as VELCRO. As shown in FIGS. 1-3, when the fasteners 18 are buttons, the bottom corners 26 of the pouch 10 may comprise a looped cord 20 configured to engage with the buttons and secure the bottom corners 26 up in a folded position.

As shown in FIG. 3, embodiments of the pouch 10 may have a secondary cavity 32 located on the back side of the pouch 10. The secondary cavity 32 may be configured to hold a cell phone, insurance information, driver's license, a wallet, lip gloss, make-up, glasses, or other smaller personal items. As shown in FIG. 1, the pouch 10 may be positioned to have the back side of the pouch facing a driver and, thus, the secondary cavity 32 may be located in an accessible area for the driver.

The pouch may be any suitable shape and, in embodiments, is substantially rectangular in shape. In some embodiments, the main cavity is about 26 inches wide and about 17½ inches tall. Additionally, the secondary cavity may be any size smaller than the main cavity. For example, in some embodiments, the secondary cavity is about 4½ inches wide and about 6½ inches tall. However, the size of both the main cavity and the secondary cavity may be increased or reduced as desired. The pouch may be made of any suitable material and, in embodiments, is made of a natural or synthetic fabric.

Persons of ordinary skill in the art may appreciate that numerous design configurations may be possible to enjoy the functional benefits of the inventive systems. Thus, given the wide variety of configurations and arrangements of embodiments of the present invention the scope of the invention is reflected by the breadth of the claims below rather than narrowed by the embodiments described above.

Claims

1. A storage compartment for storing personal items in a vehicle, the storage compartment comprising:

a pouch comprising a front side and a backside, the backside and the front side being attached to form a main cavity,

wherein: the pouch has a pair of upper corners, each of the upper corners comprising a mounting fastener configured to engage with a respective mount point in a vehicle; and the pouch has a bottom portion configured to be folded up and secured to a side of the pouch.

2. The storage compartment of claim 1, further comprising a secondary cavity on the backside of the pouch, wherein the secondary cavity is smaller than the main cavity.

3. The storage compartment of claim 2, wherein the bottom portion is configured to be secured to the front side of the pouch.

4. The storage compartment of claim 1, wherein the mounting fastener comprises a grommet inserted at each of the top corners of the pouch, the grommet being removably connected to a shackle, which is removably attached to a gate ring, the gate ring being configured to removably attach to the mounting point.

5. The storage compartment of claim 1, wherein:

the pouch is substantially rectangular in shape; and

the bottom portion that is secured to the side of the pouch comprises a first bottom corner and a second bottom corner, each corner configured to fold upwards and removably attach to a respective fastener on the side of the pouch.

6. The storage compartment of claim 5, wherein:

the fastener is a button; and

the first bottom corner and the second bottom corner each have a loop configured to engage with the button.

7. The storage compartment of claim 1, wherein each of the mounting fasteners are configured to engage with a headrest post on a seat in a vehicle, such that the storage container hangs between two adjacent seats.

8. A storage compartment for storing personal items in a vehicle, the storage compartment comprising:

a pouch comprising a front side and a backside, the backside and the front side being attached to form a main cavity;

a fastener positioned on the front side of the pouch; and

a secondary cavity positioned on a backside of the pouch, wherein: the pouch has a pair of upper corners, each of the upper corners comprising a mounting fastener configured to engage with a headrest post on a seat in a vehicle; and the pouch has a pair of bottom corners, each of the bottom corners being configured to removably attach to the fastener on the front side of the pouch.

9. The storage compartment of claim 8, wherein the mounting fastener comprises a grommet inserted at each of the top corners of the pouch, the grommet being removably connected to a shackle, which is removably attached to a gate ring, the gate ring being configured to removably attach to the headrest post.

10. The storage compartment of claim 8, wherein

the fastener is a button; and

the bottom corners each have a loop configured to engage with the button.
