Description
BACKGROUND

1. Technical Field

The present invention relates to packaging for windshield wipers and windshield wiper accessories.

2. Background Information

Automobiles use a variety of wiper arms to move a wiper blade. Since wiper blades need to be replaced periodically, a consumer often has difficulty in matching the wiper arm of his or her automobile with a wiper blade that can be attached thereto. In the past, this situation was addressed by supplying multiple connectors in either separate packages or with the wiper blade itself so that the consumer could match the appropriate connector with the wiper arm of the consumer's automobile. Often it is hard for the consumer to easily ascertain from the packaging of the connectors whether the connectors are appropriate for his or her wiper arm or whether their attachment will be difficult. In addition, the packaging of connectors often is neither aesthetically pleasing nor educational in nature and so the selling of the connectors by a vendor to a consumer can be difficult. Furthermore, often when opening up the contents of the packages, the connectors and instructions can be strewn in different directions causing a delay in both finding the connectors and instructions and understanding the operation of the connectors from the instructions. Since there is not a convenient place to store the connectors and instructions once taken out of their package, the connectors and instructions can be easily lost or damaged.

The kit 100 includes a container 104 that includes a first panel 106 made of a resilient material, such as cardboard, and having a first interior surface 108 and a first transparent enclosure 110 made of clear plastic attached to the first interior surface 108. The container 104 includes a second panel 112 made of a resilient material, such as cardboard, and having an interior surface 114 and a transparent enclosure 116 made of clear plastic attached to the interior surface 114. As shown in FIG. 1, there may be more than one enclosure 116 attached to the interior surface 114.

The two panels 106 and 112 are attached to one another via a hinge 118. As shown in FIG. 1, the hinge 118 is rectangular in shape and is hingedly attached to each of the panels 106 and 112 along linear recessed webs 120.

As shown in FIG. 1, the interior of the enclosure 110 includes a wiper blade 102. As to the enclosures 116 of the panel 112, they can include windshield wiper accessories, such as connectors for attaching wiper blade 102 to a wiper arm, and a film to be applied to the wiper blade 102. Regarding the wiper blade 102 and the connectors to be included in the enclosures 110 and 116, those distributed under the Rain-X trademark by ITW Global Brands are a possibility. In addition, the following connectors are possible as described in: 1) pending U.S. regular patent application filed on the same day as the present application, having the title of UNIVERSAL CONNECTOR FOR ATTACHMENT OF A WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE WITH MULTIPLE TYPES OF WINDSHIELD WIPER ARMS and assigned attorney docket number 14656/6, client reference number ITW 61967, and 2) pending U.S. regular patent application filed on the same day as the present application, having the title of CONNECTORS AND CONNECTOR KIT FOR ATTACHMENT OF A WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE TO MULTIPLE TYPES OF WINDSHIELD WIPER ARMS and assigned attorney docket number 14656/7, client reference number ITW 61968, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.

With the wiper blade 102 in the interior of the enclosure 110 and the wiper blade accessories contained in the enclosures 116, the container 104 allows for a number of ways of displaying the contents of the container 104 in an aesthetically pleasing manner. For example, the container 104 can be opened like a book and placed on a flat surface in the manner shown in FIG. 1.

The container 104 can be folded up into a reduced size as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. As shown, folding the container 104 about recessed webs 120 results in the front faces 122 of enclosures 116 lying against or near the portion of the interior surface 108 of panel 106. At this position, the panels 106 and 112 can be locked together by pressing protrusions 124 of panel 112 into corresponding indents 126 of panel 106 as shown in FIG. 3.
