MULTIPLE WAISTBAND GARMENT

Abstract

In some implementations, a garment includes a first waistband having a first size for supporting the garment on a wearer, a second waistband having a second size that is greater than the first size, and a garment panel between and attached to the first waistband and the second waistband, such that the second waistband is configured to be supported by and separated from the first waistband during wearing of the garment by the wearer.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims priority to U.S. Prov. App. Ser. No. 61/811,659, filed on Apr. 12, 2013, the disclosure of which is expressly incorporated herein by reference in the entirety.

BACKGROUND

In fashion, lower body garments (e.g., jeans, trousers, shorts, skirts) can have waistbands that are worn below a waistline of a wearer. For example, the waistband of a garment can sag below the wearer's waistline and even below the wearer's buttocks. To achieve this aesthetic, wearers can wear oversized garments and/or leave the garments undone (e.g., unfastened, unzipped). In some cases, wearing garments in such a fashion can result in the garment often slipping down the wearer's legs. This can interfere with leg movement, and/or cause the wearer to often pull up the garment back to a comfortable wearing position.

SUMMARY

This specification relates to garments.

Implementations of the present disclosure are generally directed to garments having multiple waist bands. In general, innovative aspects of the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in a garment that includes a first waistband having a first size for supporting the garment on a wearer, a second waistband having a second size that is greater than the first size, and a garment panel between and attached to the first waistband and the second waistband, such that the second waistband is configured to be supported by and separated from the first waistband during wearing of the garment by the wearer.

These and other implementations can each optionally include one or more of the following features: the first waistband and the second waistband are separated by a distance across the garment panel; the distance is such that the second waistband rests below buttocks of a wearer during wearing of the garment; the distance is such that the second waistband rests on buttocks of a wearer during wearing of the garment; the first waistband includes an opening and a fastener for selectively closing the opening; a fly is formed in the first waistband and at least a portion of the garment panel; a faux fly is provided below the second waistband; the garment further includes a leg panel that is attached to the second waistband; the leg panel includes jeans or trousers; the leg panel includes a skirt; the garment further includes at least one pocket provided in the leg panel; the garment further includes at least one faux pocket provided in the leg panel; the garment further includes at least one pocket provided in the garment panel; the garment further includes at least one faux pocket provided in the garment panel; the garment panel includes an under-garment material, such that the garment panel appears as a portion of an under-garment; and the garment panel includes a pattern, such that the garment panel appears as a portion of an under-garment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

FIG. 1 depicts a front view of an example garment 100 in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. FIG. 2 depicts a rear view of the example garment 100 in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure. More particularly, the example garment 100 includes multiple waistbands. In the depicted example, the garment 100 includes an upper waistband 102, a lower waistband 104, a garment panel 106, and leg panels 108 that are joined at a seam 110. The garment panel 106 is provided between the upper waistband 102 and the lower waistband 104. Although the panel 106 is depicted as a single, continuous panel, it is appreciated that the panel 106 can be provided as a discontinuous panel (e.g., having holes, or absence of material in various locations), and/or as multiple panels. In the depicted example, the panel 106 is attached to the upper waistband 102 (e.g., stitched to), and extends to and is attached to the lower waistband 104 (e.g., stitched to). In some examples, a length (L) of the garment panel 106 is sufficient to provide separation between the upper waistband 102 and the lower waistband 104. The leg panels 108 are attached to the lower waistband 104. Accordingly, the leg panels 108 are separated from the upper waistband 102 by the lower waistband 104 and the panel 106.

In some examples, the upper waistband 102, the lower waistband 104, the garment panel 106, and the leg panels 108 are made from the same fabric (e.g., cotton, denim, leather fabric, faux leather fabric). In some examples, the upper waistband 102, the lower waistband 104, the garment panel 106, and the leg panels 108 are made from the same fabric. For example, the lower waistband 104, the garment panel 106, and the leg panels 108 can be made from denim or cotton. As another example, the lower waistband 104 and the leg panels 108 can be made from denim, while the garment panel 106 and/or the upper waistband 102 can be made from cotton. In some examples, the garment panel 106 is made from a different fabric, or is otherwise different in appearance from the upper waistband 102, the lower waistband 104, and/or the leg panels 108. For example, the garment panel 106 can provide a faux appearance of an under garment (e.g., underwear).

In the depicted example, the garment 100 includes various features. Example features include a fly 120, belt loops 122, front pockets 124, faux front pockets 126, rear pockets 128, a faux fly 130, a fastener 132 and a faux fastener 134. In some examples, the fly 120 includes one or more fasteners (e.g., zipper, buttons). In some examples, the fly 120 is configured to be less noticeable and/or prominent when done up. In some examples, the fly 120 is camouflaged within the garment panel 106. For example, the fly 120 can be camouflaged to appear as a seam that is typical of an under garment (e.g., underwear). It is appreciated that the garment 100 can include more or less features than those depicted in FIGS. 1 and 2, and/or can include other features not specified herein.

In some examples, the upper waistband 102 and the lower waistband 104 are aligned across the garment panel 106, such that the fly 120 and the faux fly 130 are vertically aligned. In some examples, the fastener 132 and the faux fastener 134 are vertically aligned.

In the depicted example, the pockets 124 are provided in the garment panel 106. In some examples, the pockets 124 have a depth that extends below the lower waistband 104, as depicted in FIG. 1. In some examples, one or more of the pockets 124 has a depth that is at or above the lower waistband 104. In the depicted example, the leg panels 108 include the faux front pockets 126. In some examples, the leg panels 108 can include one or more pockets 124.

In some implementations, the upper waistband 102 operates as an actual waistband to suspend the garment 100 from a wearer's body. For example, the upper waistband 102 can be positioned to suspend the garment 100 at or near the hips of a wearer. In this manner, the upper waistband 102 holds the garment securely at or around the wearer's waistline. In some examples, the lower waistband 104 is a faux waistband and provides little to no suspension of the garment 100 from the wearer's body. In this manner, when the wearer is wearing the garment 100, the lower waistband 104 has the appearance of sagging below a waistline of the wearer, while the upper waistband 102 supports the garment 100 at or near the waistline of the wearer.

In some examples, the length L of the garment panel 106 is such that the lower waistband 104 has the appearance of sagging at or below the buttocks of the wearer. In some examples, a shirt and/or jacket worn by the wearer can cover the upper waistband 102 and at least a portion of the garment panel 106, such that it appears that the garment only extends the length of the lower waistband 102 and the leg panels 108. In this manner, the garment 100 provides a stylish aesthetic, acceptable functionality as a garment, and is secure from falling down the wearer's legs.

In some examples, a circumference of the upper waistband 102 is less than a circumference of the lower waistband 104. In some examples, the circumference of the upper waistband 102 corresponds to an appropriate size of the wearer, while the circumference of the lower waistband 104 is larger than the appropriate size of the wearer. In this manner, any interference that the lower waistband 104 may have with movement of the wearer's legs can be reduced. For example, the wearer can be a male that typically wears US size 32 garments (e.g., jeans, trousers, shorts) (European size 81). For this example male wearer, the upper waistband 102 can be a US size 32 (European size 81), and the lower waistband 104 can be larger than a US size 32 (e.g., US size 34 (European size 86)).

Although the example garment 100 is depicted as a pair of trousers, it is appreciated that implementations of the present disclosure can be realized in various types of garments (e.g., trousers, shorts, skirts). Further, although the garment 100 is depicted as having two waistbands, it is appreciated that any plurality of waistbands can be provided in accordance with implementations of the present disclosure.

A number of implementations of the present disclosure have been described. Nevertheless, it will be understood that various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present disclosure. Accordingly, other implementations are within the scope of the following claims.

Claims

1. A garment, comprising:

a first waistband having a first size for supporting the garment on a wearer;

a second waistband having a second size that is greater than the first size; and

a garment panel between and attached to the first waistband and the second waistband, such that the second waistband is configured to be supported by and separated from the first waistband during wearing of the garment by the wearer.

2. The garment of claim 1, wherein the first waistband and the second waistband are separated by a distance across the garment panel.

3. The garment of claim 2, wherein the distance is such that the second waistband rests below buttocks of a wearer during wearing of the garment.

4. The garment of claim 2, wherein the distance is such that the second waistband rests on buttocks of a wearer during wearing of the garment.

5. The garment of claim 1, wherein the first waistband comprises an opening and a fastener for selectively closing the opening.

6. The garment of claim 1, wherein a fly is formed in the first waistband and at least a portion of the garment panel.

7. The garment of claim 1, wherein a faux fly is provided below the second waistband.

8. The garment of claim 1, further comprising a leg panel that is attached to the second waistband.

9. The garment of claim 8, wherein the leg panel comprises jeans or trousers.

10. The garment of claim 8, wherein the leg panel comprises a skirt.

11. The garment of claim 8, further comprising at least one pocket provided in the leg panel.

12. The garment of claim 8, further comprising at least one faux pocket provided in the leg panel.

13. The garment of claim 1, further comprising at least one pocket provided in the garment panel.

14. The garment of claim 1, further comprising at least one faux pocket provided in the garment panel.

15. The garment of claim 1, wherein the garment panel comprises an under-garment material, such that the garment panel appears as a portion of an under-garment.

16. The garment of claim 1, wherein the garment panel comprises a pattern, such that the garment panel appears as a portion of an under-garment.
