CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of U.S. provisional application No. 61/820,517, filed May 7, 2013, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to locating writing utensils and, more particularly, to a magnetic hat clip device.

While working, a person is always looking for a place to keep their writing utensil handy. Current devices are non transferable, requiring power sources or are made of plastic that can break easily due to cold conditions and the like. Some current devices use adhesives to directly attach the device, which can become unglued or elastic materials that can wear out, or hook and latch fasteners which can wear out.

As can be seen, there is a need for a magnetic hat clip device that can be transferred to other articles of clothing and does not require a power source.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In one aspect of the present invention, a magnetic hat clip device comprises: a hat clip having a first side having a hat clip brim bracket and a second side having at least two hat clip arms; a magnet having a first side and a second side, wherein the first side of the magnet attaches to the second side of the hat clip; and a writing utensil clip having a longitudinally split hollow body having at least one arm, wherein the writing utensil clip has an outside surface, wherein the outside surface of the writing utensil clip attaches to the second side of the magnet.

In another aspect of the present invention, a method for securing a writing utensil to a hat comprises: placing a magnetic hat clip device onto a hat, wherein the magnetic hat clip device is defined by a hat clip having a first side having a hat clip brim bracket and a second side having at least two hat clip arms, a magnet having a first side and a second side, wherein the first side of the magnet attaches to the second side of the hat clip, and a writing utensil clip having a longitudinally split hollow body having at least one arm, wherein the writing utensil clip has an outside surface, wherein the outside surface of the writing utensil clip attaches to the second side of the magnet; and placing a writing utensil within the split hollow body of the writing utensil clip.

These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides a magnetic hat clip device that may include a hat clip having a first side having a hat clip brim bracket and a second side having at least two hat clip arms. A magnet may have a first side and a second side. The first side of the magnet may attach to the second side of the hat clip. A writing utensil clip may have a longitudinally split hollow body having at least one arm. The writing utensil clip may have an outside surface. The outside surface of the writing utensil clip may attach to the second side of the magnet.

As is illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 17, the magnetic hat clip device may include a hat clip 22. The hat clip 22 may have a first side 44. The first side 44 of the hat clip 22 may have a hat clip brim bracket 26. The hat clip brim bracket 26 may extend out from and curve back around towards the first side 44 of the hat clip 22 creating the clip portion of the hat clip 22. A second side 46 of the hat clip 22 may include at least two hat clip arms 24 along at least one edge of the hat clip 22. In alternate embodiments, an alternate hat clip 28 may have a first side 44 and a second side 46. The first side 44 of the alternate hat clip 28 may have an alternate hat clip brim bracket 32 that may extend out from and curve back around towards the first side 44 of the alternate hat clip 28. The second side 46 of the alternate hat clip 28 may include at least two alternate hat clip arms 30 along at least one edge of the alternate hat clip 28.

A magnet 42 may have a first side and a second side. The first side of the magnet 42 may be attached to the second side of the hat clip 22 or alternate embodiments of the hat clip 22.

A writing utensil clip 11 may have a longitudinally split hollow body. The writing utensil clip 11 may have at least one arm 13 and an outside surface. The writing utensil clip 11 may be able to removably secure a writing utensil 35. The writing utensil 35 may be a pen 36, a marker 38, a carpenter pencil 40 or the like. Various embodiments of the writing utensil clip 11 may hold these various types of writing utensils 35. The writing utensil clip 11 may be a pen clip 10 with at least one pen clip arm 12, a marker clip 14 with at least one marker clip arm 16, a carpenter pencil clip 18 with at least one carpenter pencil clip arm 20, or the like. The outside surface of the writing utensil clip 11 may attach to the second side of the magnet.

A method of using the magnetic hat clip device may include the following. A person may place the magnetic hat clip device on a hat 34. The hat clip 22 of the magnetic hat clip device may be placed on the hat 34. The hat 34 may be placed between the first side 44 of the hat clip 22 and the hat clip brim bracket 26. The hat clip 22 removably secures the device to the hat 34. A writing utensil 35 may then be placed within the writing utensil clip 11. The writing utensil 35 may be removably secured within the writing utensil clip 11 until it may be needed for use.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
