GOLF CLUB HEAD HAVING AN ELASTIC BALL-HITTING FACE
A gold club head includes a club head body having an opening defined in a front side thereof, a flange extending around the opening and a tubular neck located at one lateral side thereof, and a cover shell mounted in the opening of the club head body and having a peripheral wall extended around the border area of a face panel thereof and a substantially annular mounting flange extended from a distal end of the peripheral wall and connected to the flange of the club head body.
1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to golf club technology, and more particularly, to a golf club head having an elastic ball-hitting face.
2. Description of the Related Art
In order to increase the hitting distance, in addition to changing the structure of the club and the elasticity of the club head, the method of changing the structure of the club head may be adopted. For example, a club head comprises a main body made of composite material and having a main casing with a top opening thereon; a bottom board, made of metal, mounted on a bottom side of the main casing and having an exterior surface exposed outside; a top casing covering the top opening of the main casing and fastening its edge to the periphery of the opening, and a front casing made of metal and having a board portion and an annular wall backwardly extended from the periphery of the board portion and having an end thereof fastened to a front side of the main casing. According to this design, the front casing is somewhat stiff, having less amount of deformation and reduced elasticity of the face surface.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is the main object of the present invention to provide a golf club head having an elastic ball-hitting face, which greatly enhances the elasticity of the ball-fitting face.
To achieve this and other objects of the present invention, a golf club head of the invention includes a club head body comprising a sole, a back, an opening defined in a front side thereof, a flange extending around the opening and a tubular neck located at one lateral side thereof; and a cover shell mounted in the opening of the club head body and comprising a face panel, a peripheral wall extended around the border area of the face panel in a predetermined direction and a substantially annular mounting flange extended from a distal end of the peripheral wall remote from the face panel and lap connected to the flange of the club head body.
Other advantages and features of the present invention will be fully understood by reference to the following specification in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference signs denote like components of structure.
Referring to
The club head body 10 is made of metal, comprising a sole 11 and a back 12. The club head body 10 defines an empty space in the interior. The sole 11 and the back 12 can be made in one piece. Alternatively, the sole 11 and the back 12 can be two separated members affixed together. The club head body 10 further comprises an opening 13 defined in a front side thereof and surrounded by the sole 11 and the back 12, a flange 14 extending around an outer side of the opening 13, and a tubular neck 15 located at one lateral side thereof for connection to a golf club shaft (not shown).
The cover shell 20 comprises a face panel 21 configured to fit the opening 13 of the club head body 10. The front side of the face panel 21 is a ball-hitting face. The cover shell 20 further comprises a peripheral wall 22 backwardly extended around the border area of the face panel 21, and a substantially annular mounting flange 23 extended from an inner side of the distal end of the peripheral wall 22 remote from the faced panel 21. The cover shell 20 is mounted in the opening 13 of the club head body 10 and lap connected with the annular mounting flange 23 thereof to the flange 14 of the club head body 10, and thus the flange 14 of the club head body 10 surrounds the annular mounting flange 23 of the cover shell 20. Further, the protruding length of the flange 14 of the club head body 10 is larger than or equal to the protruding length of the annular mounting flange 23 of the cover shell 20.
The connection between the cover shell 20 and the club head body 10 can be achieved using an adhesive or by fusion welding, soldering, brazing or explosion welding. Further, the cover shell 20 and the club head body 10 are made of metal.
When the ball-hitting face of the cover shell 20 of the golf club head of the invention hits the ball, as shown in
When the cover shell 20 is returning to its former shape, the shape deformation will be converted into elasticity to produce a spring effect, increasing the ball control time and the driving distance. At this time, the annular mounting flange 23 of the cover shell 20 is not constrained, and the peripheral wall 22 can be freely returned to its former shape, and therefore the golf club head of the invention has better elasticity than the prior art design, and the spring effect of the face panel of the golf club head of the invention, is more obvious. As a result, the invention effectively eliminates the structural stiff problem of the prior art design, enabling the golf club head to provide better ball-hitting flexibility
Although a particular embodiment of the invention has been described in detail for purposes of illustration, various modifications and enhancements may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the invention is not to be limited except as by the appended claims.
