BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention
The invention relates to ropes and more particularly to a rope having figure-eight knots with improved characteristics.
2. Description of Related Art
A conventional steel wire rope A for pulling an automobile is shown in FIG. 1. The wire rope A comprises a plurality of strands Al of metal stranded together. However, the conventional steel wire rope A is not subject to bending for storage due to the nature of metal. Further, individual(s) operating the wire rope A for pulling purpose may be hurt if sufficient care is not taken due to heavy construction of the wire rope A.
Another conventional steel wire rope B for pulling an automobile is shown in FIG. 2. The wire rope B comprises a plurality of torus-shaped links B1 of metal coupled together and two eyes at both ends respectively. However, individual(s) operating the wire rope B for pulling purpose may be hurt if sufficient care is not taken due to heavy construction of the wire rope B.
Thus, the need for improvement still exists.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is therefore one object of the invention to provide a rope comprising a plurality of interlocked figure-eight knots formed of cotton or nylon.
The above and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken with the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a side elevation of a conventional steel wire rope;
FIG. 2 is a side elevation of another conventional steel wire rope;
FIG. 3A is a perspective view of a section of rope made of a natural fibrous material such as cotton according to the invention;
FIG. 3B is a perspective view of a rope made of a synthetic fibrous material such as nylon according to the invention;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a section of the rope made shown in FIG. 3B;
FIG. 5 is a side elevation of the rope shown in FIG. 3B;
FIG. 6 is another side elevation of the rope shown in FIG. 3B;
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of an automobile pulled by the rope of the invention; and
FIG. 8 is a perspective view showing an item tied by the rope of the invention and lifted by a crane.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to FIG. 3A, a rope 1 in accordance with the invention is made of natural fibrous material such as cotton (i.e., natural fiber rope) and comprises a plurality of interlinked knots 11.
Referring to FIG. 3B, a rope 1 in accordance with the invention is made of synthetic fibrous material such as nylon (i.e., nylon rope) and comprises a plurality of interlinked knots 11.
Referring to FIGS. 4, 5, and 6 in conjunction with FIG. 3B, the knots 11 of the rope 1 are figure-eight knots 11. The figure-eight knots 11 will jam under strain. Advantageously, they are more easily undone. Further, the rope 1 is easy to store, for example, in a trunk of an automobile.
Referring to FIG. 7 in conjunction with FIG. 3B, the rope 1 can be used to tow an automobile.
Referring to FIG. 8 in conjunction with FIG. 3B, the rope 1 can be used to tie an item prior to be lift by a crane for transporting to other places.
While the invention has been described in terms of preferred embodiments, those skilled in the art will recognize that the invention can be practiced with modifications within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
