Abdominal Exercising Machine

According to this new method, working out occurs by resisting forced movement. The user can vary the amount of effort exerted in resisting the forced movement while having full control of the machine. Variance may be total submission to the forced movement, partial dependence on the machine to accomplish the cycle or complete resistance to the movement. This machine shall be programmed and controlled by the user through an interface operable with one hand. A user shall be able to program options like time of exercise, angle limits, force of movement, sectional articulation, and speed of movement. Other embodiments of this invention will become clear to those familiar with this form of art upon exposure to this new method.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates to exercising machines and in particular to an exercising machine that forces the user's muscle group through a definite set of movements whereby the user exerts energy to resist the forced movement to any level the user may be comfortable. This is a novel exercise technique utilizing the principle of resisting a forced movement and is herein referred to as “imposed motion”.

2. Description of the Related Art

Typically, to exercise a muscle, the muscle exerts an effort in order to complete a movement thereby burning calories. Some people are able to train their bodies because they are in reasonably healthy physical shape and keep working out to maintain a certain level of health. Unfortunately, a lot of people are not in good shape, and have difficulty working out using exercising machines because the process is either: prohibitively difficult, unpleasant, or an altogether discouraging process. The method and machine described herein are intended to end the discomfort of exercising, making it very easy, widely applicable and joyful for a variety of users including: elders, the physically disabled, and those suffering from obesity.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

While certain embodiments of this invention will be described, it should be understood that this description is illustrative only and not limiting. Other embodiments of this invention will be obvious in view of the following disclosure. This imposed motion concept can be applied to any muscle group of the human body including arms, legs, hands, neck, core etc. One embodiment could focus on a single muscle, ex. a finger or bicep. Alternatively, an embodiment may be such that multiple mechanisms which utilize the imposed motion concept are combined. Embodiments may employ various energy sources to accomplish the forced movement such as: hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical or a combination thereof. As seen in FIG. 1, a user will lie down with their upper torso along wing W1 and legs along W2. Then, they will fasten their body to the wings. The user will then use a remote control to program the machine or use preprogrammed options. In FIG. 2 the motor has been initiated, the wheel circles around causing arm A1 to go up and down. Hinge H4 links arm A1 to arms A2 and A3. Said arms connect to the wings at hinges H3 and H5, causing the wings to move up and down as the motor cycles. W1 and W2 articulate around hinges H1 and H2. FIG. 3 exhibits a third position of the embodiment. FIG. 4 shows the most extreme folded position possible. In all figures there are small arrows emanating from the back side of the user which represent the force exerted by the person exercising, resisting the supplied movement.

Claims

1. An exercising method comprising;

mechanically imposed cyclical motion of the user's pertinent body parts initiating in formal muscular stasis to the extreme position wherein the users germane body parts are pleasantly bent, imposed motion variably resisted by the user's muscular group, having adjustable parameters such as cycle time, number of cycles, motional range, and applied force.

2. An exercising machine comprising:

an external frame assembly having braces of sufficient strength to withstand applied bending and torsion forces, braces positioned adjacently parallel to germane body parts, operationally connected to articulate about an axis correctly coincident to a skeletal joint pivotal to the work of a specific muscle group, said braces having limited motional range initiating in formal muscular stasis to the extreme position wherein the users germane body parts are pleasantly bent,
sets of straps and strap attachments positioned to comfortably secure the user's said body parts to said frame having, sufficient strength to withstand applied tensile forces,
a mechanism integrally attached to said braces across the articulation joint upon activation forces the braces to pivot about said axis from the initial position to the extreme position then returning to the initial position constituting a cycle,
a user interface to control the parametric activation of said mechanism, whereby the user resists to their discretion, the imposed cyclical motion of said mechanism.

3. An abdominal exercising machine comprising:

a table hinged along the short axis near the center, with sufficient size and strength to support a user lying, on their back,
sets of straps and strap attachments positioned to comfortably secure the user to said table having sufficient strength to withstand applied tensile forces,
a mechanism integrally attached to said table across the articulation joint upon activation forces the table sections to pivot about said axis from the initial position of formal muscular stasis to the extreme position wherein the users body is pleasantly bent at the hips, then returning to the initial position constituting a cycle,
a user interface to control the parametric activation of said mechanism, whereby the user resists to their discretion, the imposed cyclical motion of said mechanism.
