Athletic apparel with a pocket located on or near the hip region for holding a mobile device or music player

Abstract

Athletic pants/shorts/skirts having a rectangular shaped pocket located on or near the hip region with the aperture located on or near the waistband area creating a space for snugly restraining a mobile device, while limiting anterior and posterior exposure to environmental factors, objects and equipment that could come into contact with the device(s) and preventing the device from being laid upon when the wearer is performing exercises that require the posterior or anterior region to come into contact with equipment or other environmental factors. The present invention also moves the location of the mobile device closer to an athlete's ears than a standard inset pocket providing a headphone cord more flexibility.

Description

SUBSTITUTE SPECIFICATIONS

Many athletes carry mobile devices or music players during workouts in order to listen to music, log fitness information, use a timer or stopwatch, access applications, and remain available for text messaging and calls. However, the location where a device rests inside a standard inset pocket puts the device in danger of damage from weights, equipment, movements, and other environmental factors. Standard inset pockets fail to secure the device during certain movements and exercises and do not keep devices from swinging or shifting in the pocket while running, biking, and performing similar movements. Standard inset pockets also fail to keep the device from completely falling out. Also, the content in a standard inset pocket can be difficult to access when the athlete is in a seated position.

DIFFERENT EMBODIMENTS

Materials use to construct the athletic pants/shorts/skirts might be polyester, spandex, cotton, silk, linen, wool, leather, ramie, hemp, jute, chiffon, acrylic, organza, latex, nylon, velvet, taffeta, denim, rayon, georgette, viscose, polypropylene, gray fabric, satin, stretch fabric, or others.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the present invention to substantially overcome or at least ameliorate one or more of the above disadvantages, or to provide a useful alternative.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Athletic pants/shorts/skirts having a rectangular shaped panel/pocket located on or near the hip region or hip joint, on the right or left side of the wearer's body, attached vertically or horizontally to the outside or inside of the garment, with the aperture located on or near the waistband area creating a space for snugly restraining a mobile device, while limiting exposure to environmental factors, objects, and equipment that could normally come into contact with the device(s) if placed in a standard inset pocket, and preventing the device from being laid upon when the wearer is performing exercises that require the posterior or anterior region to come into contact with equipment or other environmental factors; and to limit the swinging, swaying movement of the device; and moving the location of the mobile device closer to the athlete's ears allowing the headphone cord to have more flexibility.

The panel/pocket being substantially the width of standard mobile devices such as the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, LG Nexus, HTC One, Nokia Lumia, iPod Touch, iPod Nano and others. The panel having one or more apertures for the insertion/removal of a mobile device(s).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

As depicted in FIG. 1-7 athletic pants/shorts/skirts (10) having a carrying panel (12) located on or near the hip region with one or more apertures (40). The carrying panel (12) is positioned vertically or horizontally along or near the waistband (14) and is stitched or seamed along its left outer periphery (18) and right outer periphery (20). The panel (12) is generally rectangular and the lower outer periphery (16) is generally created by a solid piece of material that is connected to the main panel (22) and forming a section of the waistband (14). The width and length of the panel sections (28) can be varied but at least one substantially corresponds to the width and length of common mobile devices and music players such as the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, LG Nexus, HTC One, Nokia Lumia, iPod Touch, iPod Nano and others.

The aperture(s) (40) are the same size, narrower, or wider than the width of the panel (12) and can be elastically deformable to allow the size of the aperture (40) to be stretched to allow the insertion of the mobile device into the carrying space.

The stretch fabric of the panel (12) retains the mobile device snugly in the carrying space (13) to limit movement of the device during exercise.

The hip region location of the panel (12) limits the device from coming into contact with anterior or posterior objects, equipment, and environmental factors that are common in strength training and other exercises.

As depicted in FIG. 4 once stitched, the material connected or stitched to the top of the panel (12) along the outer barrier (15) can act as a dislodgement barrier (17) limiting the mobile device from falling out of the carrying space (13) if the athlete is positioned on an incline or upside down, or performing movements that could dislodge the device.

Although the invention has been described with reference to specific examples, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the invention may be embodied in many other areas.

Claims

1. Claim an article of clothing for holding an electronic device having a width and a length, the article of clothing comprising:

a first leg and second leg and a waistband;

a first panel of material forming a side of the first leg having a first length which forms a portion of the waistband and an interior of a pocket, a second length forming the exterior of the pocket, a third length forming the side of the first leg, a first fold between the first and second lengths and a second fold between the second and third lengths; and

wherein the pocket formed by the first panel is sized to snugly fit the width and length of the electronic device.

2. Claim the article of clothing of claim 1, wherein the second fold forms an aperture between the third length and the first length sized to allow insertion of the electronic device.

3. Claim the article of clothing of claim 2, wherein the waistband has a thickness exceeding the thickness of the first panel.

4. Claim the article of clothing of claim 3, wherein the aperture is located near enough to the waistband so that the thickness of the waistband deters the electronic device from freely exiting the pocket.

5. Claim the article of clothing of claim 5, wherein the waistband includes an elastic material.

6. Claim the article of clothing of claim 1, further comprising:

additional material sewn about the second fold.

7. Claim the article of clothing of claim 1, further comprising:

a second pocket formed in the first panel of material.

8. Claim the article of clothing of claim 1, further comprising:

additional stitching on the first panel in proximity to a bottom location of the pocket to provide tactile sensation of the bottom location.

9. Claim the article of clothing of claim 8 wherein, the additional stitching forms a logo.

10. Claim a pair of athletic pants for holding an electronic device having a length and a width, the athletic pants having a waist, a pair of hips and a pair of legs to be worn over the wearer's waist hips and legs, the athletic pants comprising:

a first panel of material having a front, back and top and located at one of the hips;

an aperture formed into the first panel of material near the top;

a pocket sewn into the first panel of material and accessible through the aperture;

the pocket sized to snugly fit the length and width of an electronic device;

a second panel of material having a top and sewn onto the front of the first panel of material and configured to form a front of a first leg;

a third panel of material having a top and sewn onto the back of the first panel of material and configured to form a back of a first leg;

a fourth panel of material having a top and sewn onto the second panel and the third panel and configured to form a second leg; and

a waistband formed by the top of the first panel, the top of the second panel, the top of the third panel and the top of the fourth panel.

11. Claim the pair of athletic pants of claim 10, wherein the waistband has a depth;

and the aperture is formed in the first panel in proximate location of the waist band such that the depth of the waistband prevents an electronic device from freely exiting the aperture.

12. Claim the pair of athletic pants of claim 10, wherein the waistband comprises a continuous loop of material.

13. Claim the pair of athletic pants of claim 11, wherein the waistband further comprises a band of elastic material.

14. Claim the pair of athletic pants of claim 10, wherein the pocket is comprised of elastic material.

15. Claim the pair of athletic pants of claim 10, further comprising:

stitching on the first panel of material proximate a bottom of the pocket to provide a tactile sensation locating the bottom of the pocket.

16. Claim an article of clothing comprising:

a waistband; and

a pocket formed by a single panel of material sized to snugly fit an electronic device and sewn onto the article of clothing.

17. Claim the article of clothing of claim 16 wherein the panel of material further comprises:

two folds and the panel of material is sewn unto itself.

18. Claim the article of clothing of claim 16 wherein the panel of material above the first fold forms a portion of the waistband and an interior side of the pocket; wherein the panel of material between the first fold and the second fold forms an exterior side of the pocket;

and wherein the panel of material below the second fold forms a portion of the exterior of the article of clothing.

19. Claim the article of clothing of claim 16, wherein the article of clothing forms an athletic skirt.

20. Claim the article of clothing of claim 16, wherein the article of clothing forms a pair of athletic pants.
