BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to the cutting of cigar and of the type generally used for making a circular incision on the end of the cigar tip. A circular opening is desirable as it keeps the inner part of the cigar free from saliva that typically collects around the tip which can alter the flavor and ease of smoking.

Typically, fine cigars are made and sold to consumers whereby the tips are sealed to keep freshness. These tips require cutting of some sort on one end by the consumer in order to be smoked.

A cigar punch typically a hollow cylindrical shape and is ground to a sharp edge on one end. The sharp end engages with the cigar tip and cuts it using a rotating motion while the cigar itself is stabilized in the opposing hand.

The present invention is beneficial as the clip aids in helping the user to gain leverage when twisting the punch for a smooth and exact cut of the cigar tip while also providing grip for a more stabile and controlled incision. The present invention also allows the cylinders to be removed from the tool for more even more delicate cutting of smaller diameter cigar tips. When the tube is inserted back into the cigar punch, the cigar carcass is ejected from inside the tube and is ready to be used for future cigar tip cutting. The hook with gating serves to allow the cigar punch to be easily transported as it attaches to variety of objects of various shapes and sizes.

With the above considerations in view, it is an object of the present invention to provide, for a cigar punch of the type described, a novel clip on one end that provides more controlled cutting of a cigar tip and transportability of the cigar punch.

It is a further object of the invention to provide the operator a means and method of opening bottles by using the hook side as bottle opener and the opposing tubular side as a handle.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A hook in accordance with the invention is conveniently in the form of an opening passing through the cylinder and is formed by its sidewalls perpendicular to its planar surface. Preferably located for ideal attachment to other objects, its size is limited as to not weaken the cylinder while still being sufficiently located at one the end.

According to further features of the invention, the hook and cylinder can take the form of other shapes such as a square, rectangle, triangle or oval, regular or irregular shapes while embodying the same general structure and location with a similar structure, openings and gating arrangements.

The hook with accordance with the invention can be conveniently and economically manufactured by a single casting and forming operation.

Furthermore, the hook provides more control and safety when cutting cigar tips and mobility as to be attached to many types of objects to enhance the versatility of cutter therein.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of an example only with reference to the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of the cigar punch,

FIG. 2 is a top perspective of the cigar punch showing the tube removed from the groove,

FIG. 3 is a elevation view of the cigar punch,

FIG. 4 is a top view of the cigar punch,

FIG. 5 is a sectional elevation of the cigar punch along line 5-5 of FIG. 4,

FIG. 6 is an front view of the cigar punch engaging with a bottle cap.

The tube and bottle depicted in FIGS. 2, 5, and 6, are shown in broken lines for illustrative purposes only and forms no part of the claimed design. The bottom view of the tool is a mirror image to the elevation view and therefor is not shown.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION I. Introduction

As required, detailed embodiments of the present invention are disclosed herein; however, it is to be understood that the disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific structural and functional details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but merely as a basis for the claims and as representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to variously employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed structure.

II. A Cigar Punch Incorporating a Bottle Opener and Clip

The illustrated cigar punch includes in conventional manner, a metal body 10 and 30, a spring loaded gate 20 that is generally mounted 20a to the metal hook 10 and its free ends 20b rests inside of hook 10b.

The metal cylinder 30 has a circular groove 30b that spans parallel to its outer walls 30a and inner walls 30c. This groove is sized to accept tubes that are used to aid in the cutting of cigar tips as shown in FIGS. 2 and 5.

As shown in FIGS. 6, the hook 10 can be used a bottle whereby engaging the underside of a bottle cap with the hook end 10a and the top of a bottle cap engaging with hook end 10b and held in the cylinder 30 held as a handle.

While the invention has been described with respect to the specific examples including presently preferred modes of carrying out the invention, those skilled in the art will appreciate that there are numerous variations and permutations of the above described systems and techniques that fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
