Convertible Hat Device

Abstract

A convertible hat device transitions into a ball when the hat is turned inside out. The device includes a flexible cover. An opening extends into the cover for accessing an interior of the cover. The cover is positionable to form a primary ball having a circular perimeter edge. A plurality of elongated tails is coupled to the cover. Each of the tails is flexible and positionable within the opening to store the tails within the interior of the cover. Each of the tails has an associated base. A receiving space is formed proximate the base of the tails wherein the receiving space is configured to receive an entirety of the cover therein. The exterior surface of the cover forms a crown of a hat for receiving a head of a user when the cover is positioned within the receiving space.

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE

Field of the Disclosure

The disclosure relates to hat devices and more particularly pertains to a new hat device for transitioning into a ball when the hat is turned inside out.

SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a flexible cover. An opening extends into the cover for accessing an interior of the cover. The cover is positionable to form a primary ball having a circular perimeter edge. A plurality of elongated tails is coupled to the cover. Each of the tails is flexible and positionable within the opening to store the tails within the interior of the cover. Each of the tails has an associated base. A receiving space is formed proximate the base of the tails wherein the receiving space is configured to receive an entirety of the cover therein. The exterior surface of the cover forms a crown of a hat for receiving a head of a user when the cover is positioned within the receiving space.

There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new hat device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the convertible hat device 10 generally comprises a flexible cover 12. An opening 14 extends into the cover 12 for accessing an interior of the cover 12. The cover 12 is positionable to form a primary ball 16 having a circular perimeter edge 18. A closure 20 is attached to the cover 12 and is actuated to a closed state 22 closing the opening 14 or to an opened state 24 allowing access to the interior of the cover 12. The cover 12 forms the primary ball 16 when the closure 20 is actuated to the closed state 22. The closure 20 may comprise a conventional fastener, such as a zipper, snaps or the like.

A plurality of elongated tails 26 is coupled to the cover 12. Each of the tails 26 is flexible and positionable within the opening 14 to store the tails 26 within the interior of the cover 12. Each of the tails 26 includes a base 28 and a distal end 30 with respect to the base 28. Each tail 26 may taper inwardly from the base 28 to the distal end 30 and may also curve from the base 28 to the distal end 30. Each of the tails 26 may extend circumferentially around the cover 12, and in particular, the base 28 of each tail 26 may be aligned with the opening 14. Each of the tails 26 extends outwardly above the opening 14 when the cover 12 is turned inside out to reveal the tails 26. Each of the tails 26 has a pair of outer edges 32 that may overlap adjacently positioned ones of the outer edges 32. The tails 26 may be constructed from cloth, felt or like material.

A receiving space 34 is formed proximate the base 28 of the tails 26 wherein the receiving space 34 is configured to receive an entirety of the cover 12 therein when the cover 12 is turned inside out to reveal the tails 26. An exterior surface 36 of the cover 12 forms a crown of a hat 40 for receiving a head 42 of a user therein when the cover 12 is pushed up into the receiving space 34. In particular, the hat 40 may be designed to resemble a jester's hat.

A plurality of adjacently positioned panels 44 is positioned on the exterior surface 36 of the cover 12. Each of the panels 44 is geometrically shaped wherein the panels 44 are configured to represent a covering of a soccer ball. A plurality of attachment members 46 is provided. Each of the attachment members 46 is coupled to an associated one of the tails 26 at the distal end 30 of the associated tail 26. Each of the attachment members 46 may comprise a secondary ball 48, a whistle or similar object conventionally attached to a jester's hat. Each of the secondary balls 48 may resemble a down-sized version of the primary ball 16. The exterior surface 36 of the cover 36 may be constructed from an elastomer, such as rubber, or a similar flexible material. The exterior surface 36 may have a diameter between approximately 10.0 centimeters and 25.0 centimeters.

In use, as stated above and shown in the Figures, the device 10 converts between looking like a soccer ball and functioning as a hat 42. To convert the primary ball 16 into the hat 40, the closure 20 is opened and the cover 12 is turned inside out to reveal the tails 26. The cover 12 is pushed upwardly into the receiving space 34 to create a crown for the hat 40. The user's head 42 can then be received within the crown so that the user can wear the hat 40. To form the primary ball 16, the tails 26 are positioned within the opening 14 and the closure 20 is actuated to the closed state 22. The device 10 may be awarded to a player to recognize the player for achieving a “hat trick”—that is, for scoring three or more goals within a single game of soccer.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims

1. A convertible hat device comprising:

a flexible cover, an opening extending into said cover for accessing an interior of said cover, said cover being positionable to form a primary ball having a circular perimeter edge;

a plurality of elongated tails coupled to said cover, each of said tails being flexible and positionable within said opening to store said tails within said interior of said cover, each of said tails having an associated base; and

a receiving space being formed proximate said base of said tails wherein said receiving space is configured to receive an entirety of said cover therein, said exterior surface of said cover forming a crown of a hat for receiving a head of a user therein when said cover is positioned within said receiving space.

2. The device of claim 1, further comprising a closure being attached to said cover and being actuated to a closed state closing said opening or to an opened state allowing access to said interior of said cover, said cover forming said primary ball when said closure is actuated to the closed state.

3. The device of claim 2, further comprising said closure comprising a zipper.

4. The device of claim 1, further comprising each of said tails including a distal end with respect to said associated base, each said tail tapering inwardly from said base to said distal end.

5. The device of claim 1, further comprising each of said tails including a distal end with respect to said associated base, each of said tails curving from said base to said distal end.

6. The device of claim 1, further comprising each of said tails extending circumferentially around said cover.

7. The device of claim 6, further comprising each said associated base being aligned with said opening.

8. The device of claim 7, further comprising each of said tails being positionable to extend outwardly above said opening.

9. The device of claim 6, further comprising each of said tails having a pair of outer edges overlapping adjacently positioned ones of said outer edges.

10. The device of claim 1, further comprising:

each of said tails including a distal end with respect to said associated base; and

a plurality of attachment members, each of said attachment members being coupled to an associated one of said tails at said distal end of said associated tail.

11. The device of claim 10, further comprising each of said attachment members comprising a secondary ball.

12. The device of claim 11, further comprising each of said secondary balls resembling a down-sized version of said primary ball.

13. The device of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of adjacently positioned panels positioned on an exterior surface of said cover, each of said panels being geometrically shaped wherein said panels are configured to represent a covering of a soccer ball.

14. A convertible hat device comprising:

a flexible cover, an opening extending into said cover for accessing an interior of said cover, said cover being positionable to form a primary ball having a circular perimeter edge;

a closure being attached to said cover and being actuated to a closed state closing said opening or to an opened state allowing access to said interior of said cover, said cover forming said primary ball when said closure is actuated to the closed state, said closure comprising a zipper;

a plurality of elongated tails coupled to said cover, each of said tails being flexible and positionable within said opening to store each of said tails within said interior of said cover, each of said tails including a base and a distal end with respect to said base, each said tail tapering inwardly from said base to said distal end, each of said tails curving from said base to said distal end, each of said tails extending circumferentially around said cover, said base of each said tail being aligned with said opening, each of said tails being positionable to extend outwardly above said opening, each of said tails having outer edges overlapping adjacently positioned ones of said outer edges;

a receiving space being formed proximate said base of said tails wherein said receiving space is configured to receive an entirety of said cover therein, said exterior surface of said cover forming a crown of a hat for receiving a head of a user therein when said cover is positioned within said receiving space;

a plurality of attachment members, each of said attachment members being coupled to an associated one of said tails at said distal end of said associated tail, each of said attachment members comprising a secondary ball, each of said secondary balls resembling a down-sized version of said primary ball; and

a plurality of adjacently positioned panels positioned on said exterior surface of said cover, each of said panels being geometrically shaped wherein said panels are configured to represent a covering of a soccer ball.
