Adjustable Cravat

An adjustable cravat is provided. The adjustable cravat includes an elongated cloth band having a body portion, a first arm, and a second arm. Each arm has a first end and a second end configured to encircle a user's neck. The second arm includes at least one buttonhole which receives the first end of the first arm therethrough. The first end of each arm includes one or more fasteners disposed thereon. A plurality of slots are disposed on each arm. The fasteners are capable of engaging with the slots on each opposing arm to adjust the length of the elongated cloth band at fixed intervals.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/983,144 filed on Apr. 23, 2014. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention generally relates to an adjustable cravat. More specifically, the present invention relates to an adjustable cravat comprising an elongated cloth band including a body portion, a first arm, and a second arm configured to encircle a user's neck. The arms include fasteners at ends thereof adapted to engage with the slots on each opposing arm to adjust the length of the adjustable cravat at fixed intervals.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The cravat has remained a stylish accessory for well-groomed men. Cravats are fashionable bands or scarves that are worn around the neck, and are generally worn by men. The cravat is worn on formal occasions with a closed neck shirt on the outside of the shirt collar band (typically in conjunction with a morning coat or cutaway) or, on less formal occasions, with an open collar shirt on the inside of the collar next to the neck, with the cravat being tucked under the shirt front and the neck of the shirt being left open. Formal cravats are usually pre-tied, and equipped with a clasp on the neck band. The informal cravat is typically tied by hand.

Cravats are often worn by actors in theatrical productions set in particular time periods, such as those set in the 18th and 19th centuries. Accordingly, neckwear such as cravats are often part of an actor's wardrobe. However, a cravat used by a first actor may not necessarily fit a second actor, making it difficult to reuse or share the cravat. When the cravat does not fit properly, the portion of the cravat at the back of the user's neck may be loose, causing a messy and unappealing appearance.

Devices are known in the prior art that relate to adjustable neckwear devices. These include devices that have been patented and published in patent application publications. U.S. Pat. No. 3,276,037, U.S. Pat. No. 6,247,207, and U.S. Pat. No. 3,775,776 disclose ascot scarves that can be adjusted to fit people with varying neck or head sizes, and that include interlocking hook portions to secure the ascot scarf on the user. U.S. Pat. No. 3,613,117 and U.S. Pat. No. 1,308,731 describe neckpieces or cravats that include an elongated band and a body piece that can be folded thereover in order to conceal the band.

These prior art devices have several known drawbacks. The devices in the prior art fail to provide an adjustable cravat that can be adjusted via hooks and slots disposed on an interior surface of the cravat and corresponding to the back of the neck of the user. Such devices do not provide fasteners that can be removably fastened to slots labeled to indicate the neck size of each slot. Thus, the devices in the prior art do not allow a user to adjust cravat neck sizes with front tie portions wherein the cravat is adjusted via hooks placed into slots.

In light of the devices disclosed in the prior art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the prior art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to existing adjustable cravats. In this regard the instant invention substantially fulfills these needs.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of cravats now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new and improved adjustable cravat wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when adjusting the neck size of a cravat for each user.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved adjustable cravat comprising an elongated cloth band including a body portion, a first arm, and a second arm. Each arm has a first end and a second end configured to encircle a user's neck.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an adjustable cravat including at least one buttonhole disposed on the second arm of the elongated cloth band. The buttonhole receives the first end of the first arm therethrough.

It is another object of the present invention to provide an adjustable cravat including one or more fasteners disposed on the first end of each arm. Preferably, the fasteners are hooks.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an adjustable cravat including a plurality of slots disposed on each arm. The fasteners are adapted to engage with the slots on each opposing arm to adjust the length of the elongated cloth band at fixed intervals.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an adjustable cravat including a plurality of loose ties removably attached to an exterior of the body portion via hook and loop fasteners. In some embodiments the loose ties are sewn into the body of the adjustable cravat.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an adjustable cravat having an elongated cloth band including a body portion, a first arm, and a second arm. At least one buttonhole is disposed on each end of the elongated cloth band, wherein the button hole receives the first end of each arm therethrough. A plurality of slots are disposed on the body of the elongated cloth band. One or more fasteners are disposed on the first end of each arm, wherein the fasteners are adapted to engage with the slots to adjust the length of the elongated cloth band at fixed intervals.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an adjustable cravat that may be readily fabricated from materials that permit relative economy and are commensurate with durability.

Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the adjustable cravat. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for adjusting the length of the cravat. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIGS. 1A and 1B, there are shown a front and rear views of an adjustable cravat according to one embodiment of the present invention. The adjustable cravat comprises an elongated cloth band 100 including a body portion 102, a first arm 104, and a second arm 106, however, in some embodiments the adjustable cravat may only have one arm. The elongated cloth band 100 has a first end and a second end and is configured to encircle a user's neck. The first arm 104 extends from the first end of the body portion 102 and the second arm 106 extends from the second end of the body portion 102. The arms 104, 106 are aligned with the body portion 102. The adjustable cravat substantially resembles a traditional cravat and may have a variety of colors or patterns thereon. The elongated cloth band 100 is preferably fabricated from a cloth material such as cotton, silk, linen, wool, or a blend thereof.

The elongated cloth band 100 includes at least one button hole 112 on each end of the elongated cloth band 100. The button hole 112 is vertical slot that receives each arm. The arms 104, 106 comprise a first end 108 and a second end 110. The button hole 112 receives the first end 108 of each arm 104, 106 therethrough. The button hole 112 allows the arms 104, 106 to be secured to the body 102 of the elongated cloth band 100. The arms 104, 106 may further include a fastener 114, such as a hook and loop fastener, on a second end 110 thereof to removably secure the elongated cloth body 100 to a user. In some embodiments, the elongated cloth band includes only one arm having a fastener on each end. In this way, one fastener adjusts the neck size of the cravat and the other fastener secures the cravat around the neck of a user.

The body 102 of the elongated cloth band 100 further includes a plurality of slots 116. The slots 116 are stitched openings on the body 102 at fixed intervals corresponding to a neck size. Preferably, the slots 116 are disposed along a grosgrain at each end of the body 102. One or more fasteners 118 are disposed on the first end 108 of each arm 104, 106 and are adapted to engage with the slots 116 to adjust the length of the elongated cloth band 100 at the fixed intervals. Preferably, the fastener 118 on the first end 108 is a hook that can be securely inserted into the slots 116. In this way, the cravat can be adjusted to fit users of varying neck sizes by using slots 116 at different intervals.

Referring now to FIGS. 2A and 2B, there are shown a front and rear views of an adjustable cravat according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The adjustable cravat includes an elongated cloth band 200 including a body portion 202, a first arm 204, and a second arm 206. Each arm 204, 206 has a first end 208 and a second end 210 configured to encircle a user's neck. Each arm 204, 206 tapers from the first end 208 to the second end 210. At least one button hole 212 is disposed on the second arm 210 of the elongated cloth band 200, wherein the button hole 202 receives the first end 208 of the first arm 204 therethrough.

One or more fasteners 214 are disposed on the first end 208 of each arm 204, 206. The fasteners 214 comprise a hook and a series of slots 216 disposed on each opposing arm. A plurality of slots 216 are disposed on each arm 204, 206. The slots 216 are openings disposed along a grosgrain stitching on each arm. The fasteners 214 are adapted to engage with the slots 216 on each opposing arm 204, 206 to adjust the length of the elongated cloth band 200 at fixed intervals. In some embodiments, the slots 216 are spaced at fixed intervals on each arm 204, 206. The arms 204, 206 further include hook and loop fasteners 218 on the second end 210 thereof. The hook and loop fasteners secure the elongated cloth body 200 around a user's neck.

The adjustable cravat may further include a plurality of loose ties attached to an exterior of the body portion 202. The loose ties are removably attached to the body portion 202 via hook and loop fasteners. The loose ties thereon can be configured into a bow or other desired shapes and configurations. In some embodiments, the loose ties are integrally attached to the front portion of the elongated cloth band 200. In this configuration, the loose ties are sewn into the body of the adjustable cravat.

Referring now to FIG. 3, there is shown a perspective view of an adjustable cravat according to one embodiment of the present invention. In use, a user may first adjust the neck size of the elongated cloth band 200 before securing it thereon. The second arm 206 of the elongated cloth band 200 includes a button hole to receive the first end 208 of the first arm 204 therethrough. The first arm 204 is then secured to a slot disposed on the second arm 206 corresponding to a desired neck size. The first arm 204 is secured to the slot via a fastener, such as a hook, that is received in the slot. Likewise, the second arm 206 is secured to the first arm 204 via a fastener that is received on a slot on the first arm 204.

After a user secures the arms 204, 206 to the elongated cloth band 200 at a desired neck size, the elongated cloth band 200 is secured around the user's neck. The arms 204, 206 include hook and loop fasteners on a second end 210 thereof. The hook and loop fasteners are disposed on a front face of the first arm 204 and the rear face of the second arm 206. In this way, the first arm 204 is removably attached to the second arm 206 in an overlapping configuration. In some embodiments, the body 202 of the elongated cloth band 200 includes loose ties 220 that can be configured into a bow or other desired shapes and configurations.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. An adjustable cravat, comprising:

an elongated cloth band including a body portion, a first arm, and a second arm, wherein each arm has a first end and a second end configured to encircle a user's neck;
at least one button hole is disposed on the second arm of the elongated cloth band, wherein the button hole receives the first end of the first arm therethrough;
one or more fasteners are disposed on the first end of each arm;
a plurality of slots disposed on each arm, wherein the one or more fasteners are adapted to engage with the plurality of slots on each opposing arm to adjust the length of the elongated cloth band at fixed intervals.

2. The adjustable cravat of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of loose ties removably attached to an exterior of the body portion.

3. The adjustable cravat of claim 2, wherein the loose ties are removably attached to the body portion via hook and loop fasteners.

4. The adjustable cravat of claim 1, wherein the fasteners comprise a hook that engages with the slots on each arm.

5. The adjustable cravat of claim 4, wherein the slots are spaced at fixed intervals on each arm corresponding to a neck size.

6. The adjustable cravat of claim 1, further comprising hook and loop fasteners on the second end of each arm, wherein the second end of each arm are removably attached to secure the elongated cloth band on the user's neck.

7. The adjustable cravat of claim 1, wherein the slots are openings in a grosgrain stitching on each arm.

8. An internally sized adjustable cravat, comprising:

an elongated cloth band including a body portion, a first arm, and a second arm, wherein the elongated cloth band has a first end and a second end configured to encircle a user's neck;
at least one button hole disposed on each end of the elongated cloth band, wherein the button hole receives the first end of each arm therethrough;
a plurality of slots disposed on the body of the elongated cloth band;
one or more fasteners disposed on the first end of each arm, wherein the fasteners are adapted to engage with the slots to adjust the length of the elongated cloth band at fixed intervals.

9. The internally sized adjustable cravat of claim 8, further comprising a plurality of loose ties removably attached to an exterior of the body portion.

10. The internally sized adjustable cravat of claim 9, wherein the loose ties are removably attached to the body portion via hook and loop fasteners.

11. The internally sized adjustable cravat of claim 8, further comprising hook and loop fasteners on the second end of each arm.

12. The adjustable cravat of claim 8, wherein the fasteners comprise a hook that engages with the slots.

13. The adjustable cravat of claim 8, wherein the slots are openings in a grosgrain stitching on each end of the body.
