BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to hair fastening devices. More specifically, the present invention provides a hair fastening device comprising an elongated band that can be formed into a loop by securing fasteners thereon in an overlapping configuration, wherein the elongated band further includes an opening at a first end thereof that allows the user to more easily hold the device while positioning the same on the user's hair.

People with long hair often use hair clips and hair bands in order to secure their hair. This is particularly helpful when the person is exercising or is outside on a windy day in order to prevent the person's hair from blowing in the wind or to keep the hair away from the person's face. Hair bands generally comprise an elastic loop of material that can be stretched over the person's hair in order to secure the same. However, hair bands can snag the person's hair or can become tangled therewith, which can make the hairband difficult or painful to remove. Further, when a user is installing a hair band on their hair, the hair band can become stuck on the user's finger and the person may have difficulty adjusting the securement of the hair band on their hair. Some hair bands or clips may not be suitable with certain types of hair such as curly hair or dreadlocks. Thus, a device that can be used to more easily secure hair in a ponytail or similar hairstyle, and that is suitable for use with various types of hair is desired.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the hair fastening device. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for securing a user's hair in a desired position or style, such as in a ponytail. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIGS. 1A and 1B, there are shown front and rear views of the hair fastening device of the present invention. The hair fastening device 11 comprises an elongated band 12 that is composed of a flexible material. The elongated band 12 can be composed of rubber or silicone, a stretchable fabric material, or leather, among others. The elongated band 12 can be disposed in a loop around a user's hair and can be adjustably secured thereon in order to hold a user's hair in a ponytail, bun, or other similar hairstyle. The elongated band 12 includes a first end 13 opposite a second end 14. Further, the elongated band 12 includes a first surface 17 and a second surface 18 on opposing sides thereof.

The second end 14 of the elongated band 12 includes an opening 16 thereon. A user can insert his or her finger into the opening 16 in order to hold the elongated band 12 while positioning the elongated band 12 on the user's hair. This prevents the user's finger from becoming caught or tangled in the loop formed by the elongated band 12 while the user is attempting to secure his or her hair. The opening 16 is shown as having an elliptical shape but may be provided in various other shapes or configurations suited to receive a user's fingers therein.

The first surface 17 of the elongated band 12 includes one or more fasteners 15 thereon. Preferably, the fasteners 15 are located centrally on the elongated band 12. The fasteners 15 preferably include hook and loop fastening material, however, in alternate embodiments, the fasteners 15 include various other fasteners such as snaps, buttons, or magnets, among others.

The second surface 18 of the elongated strap 12 also includes one or more fasteners 19 thereon. The fasteners 19 are located on the first end 13 of the elongated band 12. Preferably, the fasteners 19 comprise hook and loop fastening material adapted to mate with the fasteners 15 on the first surface 17. In alternate embodiments, the fasteners 19 on the second surface 18 may include buttons, snaps, or magnets among other types of fasteners. In this way, the elongated band 12 can be removably secured in a loop around a user's hair by overlapping the fastener 19 on the second surface 18 with a fastener 15 on the first surface 17 of the elongated band 12. The user can adjust the fit or tightness of the elongated band 12 on the user's hair by means of the fasteners 15, 19 thereon.

Referring now to FIGS. 2 and 3, there are shown views of an attachment for use with the hair fastening device. The attachment 21 comprises a body 24 that is preferably rectangular in configuration. A lower surface 22 of the body 24 comprises a fastener 23 thereon that is adapted to removably engage with the fasteners 19 on the elongated strap 12 of the hair fastening device 11. Preferably, the fastener 23 comprises hook and loop fastening material, but may include other types of fasteners in alternate embodiments. The body 24 is preferably composed of a foam or sponge material so that the body 24 can be compressed and can contour around a user's hair.

In operation, the fasteners 23 of the attachment 21 can be secured to the fasteners 19 on the elongated strap 12 so as to provide a cushioned surface for contacting the user's hair. The attachment 21 helps to hold silky or thin hair so that the hair fastening device 11 remains in position on the user's hair. Preferably, the attachment 21 is shorter in length than the fastener 19 on the elongated strap 12 so that the attachment 21 does not utilize all of the fasteners 19 when positioned thereon. Thus, in some embodiments the fasteners 23 on the attachment 21 and the fasteners 19 on the elongated strap 12 are hook and loop fastening material, and the strip of hook and loop fastening material on the attachment 21 is shorter in length than the hook and loop fastening material on the elongated strap 12. In this way, the elongated strap 12 can be configured in a loop and secured using the fasteners thereon while the attachment 21 is also secured to the fasteners on the elongated strap 12.

Referring now to FIG. 4, there is shown a perspective view of the hair fastening device as secured on a user's hair. In operation, a user can hold the elongated band 12 by the opening 16 on the second end thereof 14. This provides a space for the user to hold the elongated band 12 without the risk of the user's finger becoming caught in the elongated band 12 as it is being positioned on the user's hair. The elongated band 12 can be wrapped around a portion of the user's hair, such as a pony tail, and the fasteners 15, 19 on the first and second surfaces thereof can be aligned. The fasteners 15, 19 can be removably secured together in overlapping relation in a desired position in order to secure the elongated band 12 on the user's hair. The elongated band 12 can be adjusted on the user's hair to provide the desired level of tightness so as to prevent the hair fastening device 11 from falling off of the user's hair.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
