Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to an exercise device, particularly an exercise device utilizing an elastic band and a pair of handle apparatuses to perform various exercises.

2. Description of the Previous Art

Exercise devices for utilizing an elastic band to perform exercises are well known to the marketplace. These devices are portable and are typically provisioned for the performance of various workouts.

Most often, tubular bands are attached to plastic handle frames such that the band can not be adjusted or replaced. Therefore, a completely new device would have to be purchased to accommodate varying levels of resistance. Furthermore, the entire device would have to be replaced in the event a band is broken. The tubular bands do not rest comfortably against surfaces or body parts that allow for the performance of a particular workout. Furthermore, said handle frames do not swivel or rotate and can make the performance of some exercises uncomfortable and possibly harmful to the body.

The present invention is portable and easy to use while allowing the bands to be easily replaced or adjusted to allow for varying degrees of resistance. Said elastic band is flat shaped allowing it to rest comfortably against any surface that may allow for the performance of a given workout. Said elastic band is durable allowing it to accommodate users interested in rigorous workouts. Said exercise device have a handle that swivels and rotates, allowing for a full range of motion.

The present invention provides for an exercise device that is portable, durable, easy to use, and adjustable.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

At present is an exercise device for utilizing an elastic band to perform exercises. The device comprises an elastic band and a pair of handle apparatuses. Each handle apparatus further comprises a slide adjusted locking mechanism to secure said elastic band therein, a handle component with a grip and a pair of arms, and a swiveling and rotating rod mechanism for attaching said handle mechanism to said slide adjusted locking mechanism. Said swiveling and rotating rod mechanism is attached by a bearing to said handle mechanism, and by a pin to said slide adjusted locking mechanism. The device is provisioned to allow a band to be replaced or adjusted in length for various workouts.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

The present invention relates to an exercise device for utilizing an elastic band to perform exercises. As best shown in FIG. 1, the device provides for an elastic band 400 and a pair of handle apparatuses. Preferably, the device may be provisioned to allow said band 400 to be replaced or adjusted in length for various workouts as shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2.

As best shown in FIG. 5, each handle apparatus further includes a slide adjusted locking mechanism 300 to secure said elastic band 400 therein, a handle component 100 with a grip 106 and a pair of arms 102, and a swiveling and rotating rod mechanism 200 for attaching said handle mechanism to said slide adjusted locking mechanism 300. Said swiveling and rotating rod mechanism 300 may be attached by a bearing 204 to said handle mechanism 100, and by a pin 202 to said slide adjusted locking mechanism 300. It should be understood that said rotating rod mechanism 300 may be attached to said handle mechanism 100 or slide adjusted locking mechanism 300 with any suitable fastener that is strong enough to endure a rigorous workout.

Said handle mechanism 100 provides for a pair of arms 102. It should be understood that any suitable number of arms may be utilized. A rotating handle bar 104 secured between each arm 102 such that the bar may rotate, and a grip 106 that fits snuggly around said rotating handle bar 104 are further provided, as shown in FIG. 5. It should be understood that said handle bar 104 may be attached such that it does not rotate. Said grip 106 may be provisioned to allow said handle mechanism 100 to be gripped comfortably. However, said grip 106 is not an essential element of the exercise device.

Said slide adjusted locking mechanism 300 further provides for a sliding locking bar 308, a rotating pressure sleeve 310, and a locking frame 302. As shown in FIG. 3, said slide adjusted locking mechanism 308 may be preferably provisioned to secure said elastic band 400 therein. Said slide adjusted locking frame may be provisioned to secure said elastic band 400 therein whenever tension is applied to said elastic band 400. Said locking bar may be provisioned to slide vertically along said locking frame 302 thereby releasing said elastic band 400, as shown in FIG. 4. Said rotating pressure sleeve 310 may be cylindrical in shape and fits loosely around the bottom portion of said locking frame 302 such that said rotating pressure sleeve 310 may rotate around the bottom portion of said locking frame 302 for easily adjusting or replacing said elastic band 400.

As shown, a recess 304 may be formed in the center of the upper portion of said locking frame 302. Said recess 304 is provisioned to allow said handle component 100 to easily swivel, as shown in FIG. 7 and FIG. 8.

Said swiveling and rotating rod mechanism 200 provides for a lock pin 202, said bearing washer 204, and a threaded pin shaft 206 having both an interior and an exterior surface. The interior surface of said locking pin shaft 206 may be threaded to allow said similarly threaded locking pin 202 to be secured therein. It should be understood that although said pin shaft 206 and said lock pin 202 are attached using threaded surfaces, said pin shaft 206 and said lock pin 202 may be attached with any suitable fastener or method. Said locking pin 202 is provisioned to fit through the center of said bearing 204 before said locking pin is secured to said threaded pin shaft 206 such that said bearing 204 may be provisioned to allow said handle component 100 to rotate, as shown in FIG. 6 and FIG. 9. As shown in FIG. 10 and FIG. 11, said handle apparatus is provisioned to rotate and swivel simultaneously to allow a full range of motion. A multitude of stabilizing spacers 306 are further provided. Said spacers 306 may be attached to said locking frame 302 on opposing ends of said recess 304 such that said spacers 306 may stabilize said threaded pin shaft 206 and prevent said threaded pin shaft 206 from sliding beyond said recess 304, as shown in FIG. 5.

Preferably, said elastic band 400 may be substantially flat in shape. As shown in FIG. 12, said elastic band 400 may be provisioned to fit comfortably underneath the feet while performing various exercises. Although a curling exercise is disclosed in FIG. 12, said exercise device may be used to perform a wide variety of workouts, including bench press, upright rows, curls, tricep extensions, or squats. Said band 400 may be provisioned to rest comfortably against any surface that may allow for the performance of a particular workout; for example, the soles of the feet, back, shoulders, or chair backrest, depending on the exercise being performed. Said elastic band 400 may be interchangeable with other bands which differ depending on the workout preferences of the user.

It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described above, but encompasses any and all embodiments within the scope of the following claims.
