Hat Flap

Abstract

A modification of the traditional baseball hat brim. The invention consists of a partially detachable covering for the underside of a hat brim. By partially detaching a flap, the user would be able to store small items within the flap ideally by attaching the objects to the brim itself.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates to the field of clothing. More specifically, this invention is a modification of the brim of the conventional baseball hat.

2. Description of the Related Art

The conventional baseball hat is a ubiquitous form of headwear. It consists of a semi-sphere, typically made of fabric, placed on the wearer's head, with a brim of varying lengths made of a rigid material wrapped in the same material as the main hat. The hats have had various types of pockets, sleeves and attachments added to modify the basic hat design.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

The present invention modifies the brim of the hat. It integrates a detachable flap to the underside of the brim of the hat. This flap remains sewn on one edge of the hat and is attached by Velcro to the other three sides. The purpose of the flap is to allow small objects to be safely attached to the physical brim of the hat yet remained covered by fabric. The types of objects envisioned are fishing flies or perhaps a credit card or small amount of cash. The purpose of this is twofold. It provides a safer method of attaching objects than an unsecured pocket, it also conceals the objects providing a functional method of holding objects inconspicuously yet conveniently. The hat need not he removed to gain access to the objects stored in the brim.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

FIG. 1 shows an underneath view of the flap. The flap preferably attaches on either of the short sides of the brim. The long sides and the opposing short side will then be attached with Velcro. The fabric attachment will ideally remain taught and appear virtually identical to traditional baseball unless closely inspected. Ideally, the Velcro attachment will be a narrow strip of Velcro loops attached to the brim and a matching corresponding narrow strip of Velcro hooks on the fabric flap or vice versa.

Another approach would he to embed a small magnetic closure or even perhaps a snap depending on the strength of attachment required. Thus, the scope of the invention should be fixed by the following claims rather than any examples provided.

Claims

1. A baseball hat with a partially removable flap built into the brim comprising:

a. A flap of material of the same approximate shape and size of the overlying hat brim.

b. A means of securing the flap to the brim of the hat so that one or more edges can be repeatedly detached and reattached.
