Adaptable Theme Bed

Embodiments of the invention provide a bed and related apparatus that is adaptable by the user to permit the creation and modification of the bed environment to any desired theme, location, activity or scenario. Some embodiments of the invention provide an adaptable bed and related apparatus comprising a frame extending between a footboard and a headboard structure, where the frame provides or supports an area for sleeping such as a mattress. The footboard and headboard have opposite facing surface areas any one of which can include an apparatus for displaying at least one image to a user. The apparatus can include a first apparatus coupled to the headboard and a second apparatus coupled to the footboard. In some embodiments, either the first or the second apparatus can be adapted to display an image to a user that may be electronically generated, or may be non-electronic.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of filing date of U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 61/794,804 titled “ADAPTABLE THEME BED”, filed on Mar. 15, 2013, the specification of which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.

BACKGROUND

Getting children to go to bed and to stay there has been one of the most common problems for parents and caregivers in many households. Whether it is the transition from a crib to a big boy/girl bed, or the general bedtime routine/deadline for toddlers and older children, the challenge of getting a resistant child to get into his/her own bed and stay there (as opposed to the parents' bed or staying awake) can be a very stressful, frustrating, and exhausting experience for everyone involved. It can also lead to anxiety and dread over the struggle to come as bedtime approaches. Oftentimes, these recurring battles can heighten an uncooperative child's aversion to his/her bed, and lead to parental guilt and loss of privacy as they choose to allow a child to sleep in their bed to avoid further conflict. Many books, articles and studies have been published on the subject, and caregivers are often faced with unsolicited advice from family members, friends, neighbors, colleagues and even strangers, regarding countless bedtime “solutions” to this problem. One such attempt to address this problem has been to personalize and make a child's room more attractive, including through decoration, painting, and even novelty “theme” beds such as fire trucks, Barbie cars, and the like. Such thematic designs for a child of a certain age can be expensive and short-lived as he/she grows bored with it and/or as interests change over time. Thus, at best, this approach has enjoyed only limited and temporary success, and generally requires costly re-design and purchase of new thematic beds and the like to align with the child's changing whims, tastes, and interests. Furthermore, older children and adults also have places, events, sports teams, and sights that hold special meaning and interest to them, but due to the constraints of time, distance, and cost, they may not be able to visit or experience them. Thus, there remains a long-felt and unmet need for a means to bring those places, events, and sights to users of all ages in their own room, and which allows for easy replacement with whatever new or different location, scenario or theme that the user desires in a way that avoids costly re-design, damage, and purchases.

SUMMARY

Some embodiments of the invention provide an adaptable bed and related apparatus, comprising a frame extending between a footboard and a headboard structure, where the frame provides or supports an area for sleeping such as a mattress. The footboard has opposite facing surface areas including a first outer footboard area and a second inner footboard area. The first outer footboard area faces outwards away from the interior of the sleeping area, and the second inner footboard area faces inwards towards an interior of the sleeping area. The headboard has opposite facing surface areas including a first outer headboard area and a second inner headboard area. Further, the first outer headboard area faces outwards away from the interior of the sleeping area, and said second inner headboard area facing inwards towards the interior of the sleeping area. The adaptable bed and related apparatus also includes at least one apparatus for an attachment to one or more of the footboard and headboard areas, where the at least one attached apparatus can provide a user with at least one image of the user's choice that can be adapted as desired by the user to any different image of the user's preference.

In some embodiments of the adaptable bed and related apparatus, the at least one apparatus comprises a first apparatus, where at least a portion is attached to at least one side of the headboard. Further, the adaptable bed and related apparatus can include a second apparatus, at least a portion of which is attached to at least one side of the footboard.

In some embodiments, the headboard comprises a first apparatus for providing at least one user viewable image. In some other embodiments, the footboard comprises a second apparatus for providing at least one user viewable image. In some further embodiments, the headboard comprises a first apparatus including at least one user viewable image, and the footboard comprises a second apparatus including at least one user viewable image.

Some embodiments include a headboard and footboard that comprise at least one substantially identical user viewable images. In other embodiments, the headboard and footboard comprise at least one substantially non-identical user viewable images.

Some embodiments include an adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus where the shape and surface area of the first apparatus is substantially identical to the shape and surface area of the headboard. Further, in some embodiments, the shape and surface area of the second apparatus is substantially identical to the shape and surface area of the footboard. In some other embodiments, the shape and surface area of the first apparatus and the headboard is substantially different, and in some embodiments, the shape and surface area of the second apparatus and the footboard is substantially different. In some further embodiments, at least a portion of the at least one apparatus extends substantially away from a headboard or footboard.

In some embodiments, the adaptable bed and related apparatus includes at least one apparatus that provides the user an outside-looking-towards perspective view of a particular location comprising at least one of an event and a scene, and the inner area gives the user at least one view from the perspective of said user being inside of the particular location.

In some embodiments, the adaptable bed and related apparatus comprises at least a portion of the at least one image that may be generated from a user's own photographs or other visual recording devices or renderings. In some embodiments, the at least one apparatus is removable and re-attachable. In some embodiments, the adaptable bed and related apparatus comprises at least one apparatus that is movable in at least two dimensions.

In some further embodiments, at least a portion of the at least one image that is displayed by the at least one apparatus may be generated electronically. In some embodiments, the image may be delivered by way of at least one of radio-waves, the internet, a video game system, an electronic storage medium, a cell phone, a smart phone, a DVD player, a CD player, a video camera, a digital camera, a laptop computer, a tablet computer, and a desktop computer.

In some further embodiments, the at least one apparatus is adapted to display at least a portion of the at least one image that can be selected from the group of images consisting of: an arena, a coliseum, a stadium, a boxing ring, a UFC Octagon, a concert venue, a circus arena, a theme park, an amusement park, a village, a city, a building, a palace, a castle, a church, the World Trade Center, a geographical landmark, a national park, a mountaintop view, an image depicting skiing down Mt. Whistler, an image depicting surfing a 30 ft. wave in Hawaii, an undersea view of the Great Barrier Reef, a vehicle, the space shuttle, a racing car, a submarine, a tank, a horse riders perspective view, a scene from a movie, a scene from a book, a scene from a work of art, a scene from the Spiderman movie, a scene from the Lord of the Rings movie, a scene from the Star Wars movie, and a scene from a Harry Potter movie

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Before any embodiments of the invention are explained in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and the arrangement of components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the following drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced or of being carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology used herein is for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting. The use of “including,” “comprising,” or “having” and variations thereof herein is meant to encompass the items listed thereafter and equivalents thereof as well as additional items. Unless specified or limited otherwise, the terms “mounted,” “connected,” “supported,” and “coupled” and variations thereof are used broadly and encompass both direct and indirect mountings, connections, supports, and couplings. Further, “connected” and “coupled” are not restricted to physical or mechanical connections or couplings.

The following discussion is presented to enable a person skilled in the art to make and use embodiments of the invention. Various modifications to the illustrated embodiments will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the generic principles herein can be applied to other embodiments and applications without departing from embodiments of the invention. Some embodiments of the invention relate generally to beds and more specifically to bed designs and related apparatus that are easily and continuously adaptable to give the user the perspective of approaching and then being within a particular location or scenario of interest. For example, the adaptable scenario could be an arena, coliseum or stadium for sporting events, a concert or theatrical performance, and/or other attractions such as a theme or amusement park. The adaptable scenario could also comprise a geographical location such as a town, city, or building, a historic or natural landmark, a historic or memorable event. Further, the adaptable scenario could feature a vehicle or other means of transportation, or a scene from a movie, book or work of art. These embodiments featuring adaptable themes are distinguished from many theme beds in the art that are generally not adaptable. For example, FIGS. 1A-1E show perspective views of various commercially available beds that employ thematic designs for a child of a certain age. These beds generally feature a single, non-adaptable theme, distinguishable from the embodiments described herein.

The bed designs of the disclosed embodiments of the invention are attractive to users of all ages from toddlers to youths to adults. Some embodiments of the invention can provide an opportunity to any individual, no matter what age, to use his or her imagination to place themselves in an environment which in many cases may not be accessible to them due to distance, money and availability constraints. Some embodiments of the invention can bring whatever desired location, scenario or theme to them in their own room. Specifically, for children, one of the benefits of the some embodiments of the invention is to help create a more desirable sleeping environment such that they are more willing to get into bed and to stay there.

In some embodiments of the invention, the apparatus of the invention and/or the content displaced thereby is readily modifiable, removable, replaceable and/or re-attachable. In this instance, it can be electronically uploaded and/or physically attached to the bed on the headboard and/or footboard, and then replaced without any damage to the bed surface. Further, it can be reused at a later time, or substituted for other apparatus and/or electronic signal for a different theme, location or scenario as desired by the user. Thus, for example, at least some portion of the bed may be adapted by the user as the sports seasons change (i.e., from the user's favorite baseball venue to his/her favorite football team's stadium, and so on) or maybe adapted to any other location, scenario or theme to which the user's interests, whims, preferences and tastes are suited at a particular point in time without having to purchase a new bed.

Some embodiments of the invention can comprise a bed and related apparatus that helps to deliver a unique bedtime experience that is more attractive and enjoyable to the user and is continuously adaptable to suit the user's desired preferences. Some embodiments of the invention can help to turn bedtime battles with children into a pleasant, positive experience that, in turn, helps children and their caregivers to be more relaxed, rested and ready to start the next day. In some embodiments of the invention, this can occur by capturing the user's imagination and changing with his/her whims, desires, and preferences regardless of age. In this instance, this can be achieved through the use of electronically or physically removable and replaceable apparatus and/or content thereon that can be displayed on the inner and/or outer surface of the bed headboard and/or footboard. This can provide the user with the desired impression that they are, for example, entering their favorite venue, location, event or scene.

Thus, some embodiments of the invention can permit any individual, no matter what age, to use his or her imagination to place themselves in an environment which in many cases may not be accessible to them due to distance, money and availability constraints. Some embodiments of the invention can bring whatever the desired content and images to the user's own room, and avoids costly re-design and re-decoration because of its ready adaptability to suit whatever whims and preferences may be of interest to the user at any particular point in time.

In some embodiments, an apparatus for a bed can be adapted by a user to facilitate sleeping and otherwise improve utility and enjoyment, comprising a bed frame that extends between a footboard and a headboard structure and provides and/or supports an area for sleeping such as a mattress. In some embodiments, the bed and apparatus can be adjusted for any size and shape. Preferably, in some embodiments, the bed and apparatus will be sized for use with a standard twin bed and headboard/footboard, and in some further embodiments, can be applied to any other sizes including queen, king and any other bed sizes.

Some embodiments of the invention can provide for one or more of the footboard and headboard areas having attached to it an apparatus that conveys an image providing a perspective view of an image location, event, theme, sight/scene or other image which may be desired by the user. For example, the footboard's outer surface may give the user an outside-looking-towards perspective view such that the user is given the impression of approaching his/her desired location, scenario or theme. Similarly and/or alternatively, in some embodiments of the invention, the inner surface of the headboard and/or footboard with attached apparatus may, for example, convey an image which gives the user one or more views from the perspective of said user being within the desired location, scenario or theme. Further, in some embodiments, the headboard and footboard structures may be the same size and shape, and can be flat or curved or otherwise dimensioned, so as to accommodate the attachable apparatus with at least one image. In some embodiments, the headboard and footboard surfaces are designed and configured for easy attachment, adherence and/or removal of the apparatus with at least one image (see for example FIG. 2 showing a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention including a footboard 125 and a headboard 140).

As a non-limiting example, some embodiments of the invention can comprise images on the removable/re-attachable apparatus (such as a first apparatus 146 and/or a second apparatus 136 shown at least in FIG. 2) that can convey perspective views and/or scenes or sights from a location that may be generated from photographs or other visual recordings or renderings, including those created by the user. Some embodiments include a perspective view and/or scene that is readily removable and replaceable. In some embodiments, the locations, events, or sights can be selected from any desired including for example at least from an arena, a coliseum or stadium for sporting events (such as a favorite baseball, football, or soccer stadium), a museum and its works of art preserved therein, or race car or boxing/UFC event. In some embodiments, the locations, events, or sights can be selected from any desired including for example concert venues and performers, theme or amusement parks such as Disney World, or other attractions such as a circus. In some embodiments, the locations, events, or sights can be selected from any desired including for example geographical locations such as a village, city (e.g., New York, Paris), a building or landmark including for example a palace, castle, church, national park, or views from a mountaintop, skiing down Mt. Whistler, surfing a 30 ft. wave in Hawaii, or an undersea view of Great Barrier Reef for scuba fanatics, or the World Trade Center, and/or streaming pictures or video, etc.). In some embodiments, the locations, events, or sights can be selected from any desired including for example a scene from a movie, book or work of art, whether real or fictional (such as from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Spiderman or other superhero, Lord of the Rings, and the like). In some embodiments, the locations, events, or sights can be selected from any desired including for example vehicles (e.g., the space shuttle, a racing car, a submarine, or a tank, etc.,), or other means of transportation or activity (e.g., a horse where you are seated in saddle). In a separate embodiment where the apparatus displays electronic images, the images can also be selected or adapted by the user as desired to include images of various locations, events, or sights, including those of the natural environment mentioned above, and can include video games and the like. Some example embodiments of the invention are shown in FIGS. 3-20, and are further described below. For example, in some embodiments, any one of the adaptable beds 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2000 can include a frame 105 comprising a first end 110 and a second end 115. In some embodiments, a headboard 140 can be coupled to the first end 110 of the frame 105. In some further embodiments, a footboard 125 can be coupled to the second end 115 of the frame 105, and can form a sleeping area 118 generally between the ends 110, 115. Further, in some embodiments, the frame 105 can include a rear support 165 coupled to the first end 110 of the frame, and a front support 160 coupled to the second end 115 of the frame 105. In some embodiments, either the front support 160 and/or the rear support 165 can comprise a pair of legs. In some embodiments, at least one mattress 150 can be positioned at least partially positioned between the first end 110 and the second end 115, and at least partially supported by the frame 105 and at least one or both of the front support 160 and the second support 165.

In some embodiments, the headboard 140 can include a first apparatus 146 that can comprise at least one visual image capable of being viewed be a user (e.g., a child) and/or a bystander (e.g., a guardian such as a parent of the child). Some embodiments include a headboard 140 that can comprise the first apparatus 146. For example, in some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 can be integral to the headboard 140. In some other embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can be coupled with the headboard 140.

Some embodiments can comprise a headboard 140 having opposite facing surface areas including a first outer headboard area 144 and a second inner headboard area 142. The first outer headboard area 144 can generally face outwards away from the interior of the sleeping area 118, and the second inner headboard area 142 can generally face inwards towards the interior of the sleeping area 118. In some further embodiments, at least a portion of the first outer headboard area 144 can comprise at least a portion of the first apparatus 146. In some further embodiments, at least a portion of the second inner headboard area 142 can comprise at least a portion of the first apparatus 146.

In some embodiments, the footboard 125 can include a second apparatus 136 that can comprise at least one visual image viewable be a user. Some embodiments include a footboard 125 that can comprise the second apparatus 136. For example, in some embodiments, the second apparatus 136 can be integral to the footboard 125. In some other embodiments, at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can be coupled with the footboard 125.

Some embodiments can comprise a footboard 125 having opposite facing surface areas including a first outer footboard area 129 and a second inner footboard area 127. The first outer footboard area 129 can generally face outwards away from the interior of the sleeping area 118, and the second inner footboard area 127 can generally face inwards towards the interior of the sleeping area 118. In some further embodiments, at least a portion of the first outer footboard area 129 can comprise at least a portion of the second apparatus 136. In some further embodiments, at least a portion of the second inner footboard area 127 can comprise at least a portion of the first apparatus 146. In some embodiments, the shape and surface area of the first apparatus 146 can be substantially identical to the shape and surface area of the headboard 140. Further, in some embodiments, the shape and surface area of the second apparatus 136 can be substantially identical to the shape and surface area of the footboard 125.

FIG. 3 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 300 that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a football stadium, which in this case is illustrative of an embodiment comprising Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 300 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 300 can include a headboard 140 that can comprise a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 301 that is an illustrative embodiment of Lambeau Field. Further, the adaptable bed 300 can include a footboard 125 that can comprise a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 302 that is also an illustrative embodiment of Lambeau Field. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 301, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 302. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 301 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 302 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

FIGS. 4A and 4B illustrate perspective views of embodiments of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 400 and 450 respectively each with a headboard and/or footboard apparatus that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a college football stadium, which in this illustrative embodiment is Notre Dame, home of the Fighting Irish.

In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 401, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 402.

In some embodiments, the adaptable bed 450 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 450 can include a headboard 140 that comprises a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 451 that is an illustrative embodiment of being inside of Notre Dame college football stadium. Further, the adaptable bed 450 can include a footboard 125 that comprises a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 452 that is also an illustrative embodiment of being inside of Notre Dame college football stadium. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 451, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 452. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 401 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 402 can be coupled to the footboard 125. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 451 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 452 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

FIG. 5 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 500 that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a college basketball venue, which in this case is illustrative of an embodiment comprising University of North Carolina, home of the Tar Heels. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 500 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 500 can include a headboard 140 that comprises a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 501 that is an illustrative embodiment of being inside the University of North Carolina college basketball venue. Further, the adaptable bed 500 can include a footboard 125 that comprises a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 502 that is also an illustrative embodiment of being inside the University of North Carolina college basketball venue. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 501, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 502. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 501 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 502 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

FIG. 6 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 600 that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a NASCAR venue, which in this case is illustrative of an embodiment comprising the Daytona 500. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 600 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 600 can include a headboard 140 that comprises a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 601 that is an illustrative embodiment of being inside of a NASCAR venue that is hosting the Daytona 500. Further, the adaptable bed 600 can include a footboard 125 that comprises a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 602 that is also an illustrative embodiment of being inside of a NASCAR venue that is hosting the Daytona 500. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 601, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 602. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 601 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 602 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 and/or the second apparatus 136 can extend away from the headboard 140 and/or footboard 125 onto which it is coupled, connected or integrated. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, in some embodiments, a portion 136a of the second apparatus 136 can extend away from the footboard 125 (e.g., in this instance to accommodate the shape and borders of the image 602). Therefore, in some embodiments, the shape and surface area of the first apparatus 146 can at least partially differ from the shape and surface area of the headboard 140. Further, in some embodiments, the shape and surface area of the second apparatus 136 can at least partially differ from the shape and surface area of the footboard 125.

FIG. 7 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 700 that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a baseball stadium, which in this case is illustrative of an embodiment comprising Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 700 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 700 can include a headboard 140 that comprises a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 701 that is an illustrative embodiment of being inside of Fenway Park baseball stadium. Further, the adaptable bed 700 can include a footboard 125 that comprises a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 702 that is also an illustrative embodiment being inside of Fenway Park baseball stadium. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 701, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 702. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 701 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 702 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

FIG. 8A-8B provide perspective views of embodiments of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 800 and 850 respectively, where each can provide the impression of entering and being inside of a baseball stadium, which in this illustrative embodiment is Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. For example, FIG. 8A is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 800 that provides the impression of entering and being inside of Wrigley Field baseball stadium. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 800 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 800 can include a headboard 140 that comprises a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 801 that is an illustrative embodiment of Wrigley Field baseball stadium. Further, the adaptable bed 800 can include a footboard 125 that comprises a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 802 that is also an illustrative embodiment of Wrigley Field baseball stadium. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 801, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 802.

FIG. 16 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 1600 that provides the impression of entering and being in a movie scene, which in this case is illustrative of an embodiment comprising a scene from the Harry Potter movie. Further, the adaptable bed 1600 can include a footboard 125 that comprises a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 1602 that is also an illustrative embodiment of the movie Harry Potter. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 1601, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 1602. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 1601 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 1602 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

FIG. 17 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 1700 that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a concert venue. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 1700 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 1700 can include a headboard 140 that comprises a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 1701 that is an illustrative embodiment of a concert venue. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 1701, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 1702. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 1801, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 1802. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 1801 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 1802 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

FIG. 19 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention comprising an adaptable bed 1900 that provides the impression of entering and being at an event, which in this case is illustrative of an embodiment comprising a wrestling event. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 1900 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 1900 can include a headboard 140 that comprises a second inner headboard area 142 that includes an image 1901 that is an illustrative embodiment of a wrestling event. Further, the adaptable bed 1900 can include a footboard 125 that comprises a first outer footboard area 129 that includes an image 1902 that is also an illustrative embodiment of a wrestling event. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the first apparatus 146 can comprise the image 1901, and at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 1902. In some embodiments, the first apparatus 146 including the image 1901 can be coupled to the headboard 140, and the second apparatus 136 including the image 1902 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

FIG. 20 is a perspective view of an adaptable bed embodiment with a headboard and/or footboard apparatus that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a NASCAR venue, which in this illustrative embodiment is the Daytona 500. For example, as shown, the adaptable bed 2000 can include a frame 105 coupled to a headboard 140 and a footboard 125. In some embodiments as shown, the adaptable bed 2000 can include a headboard 140, and can include a footboard 125 that comprises a second inner footboard area 127 that includes an image 2001 that provides the impression of entering and being inside of a NASCAR venue featuring the Daytona 500. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the second apparatus 136 can comprise the image 1902. In some embodiments, the second apparatus 136 including the image 2001 can be coupled to the footboard 125.

Some further embodiments of the invention can include a bed frame 105 that comprises one or more thematic side panels. In some embodiments, the bed frame 105 can include at least one side panel including at least one image that is viewable by a user and/or a bystander. In some embodiments of the invention, the bed frame 105 can include two side panels, positioned substantially perpendicular to a headboard 140 and footboard 125, each on opposite sides of the bed frame 105.

In some further embodiments, the bed frame 105 can include an additional structure that can provide an additional perspective view of the desired scene, location, etc. For example, in some embodiments, the bed frame 105 can be coupled to and/or support a structure that comprises at least a portion of a canopy or curtain forming a canopied or curtained bed that can provide an additional perspective view of the desired scene, location, etc.

The apparatus of the invention can be sold and shipped separately from a bed. For example, any one of the embodiments of the first apparatus 146 and the second apparatus 136 as illustrated in FIGS. 2-3, 4A-4B, 5-7, 8A-8B, 9-20 can be sold and shipped separately from a bed. In contrast to the current approaches of shipping and storing vinyl sheets where manufacturers recommend that the user save the paper thin liner and roll or use an old shower curtain, the apparatus of the invention (including for example a first apparatus 146 and a second apparatus 136) can be attached during shipment and storage to a foldable laminated board that can readily accommodate at least one image, and can be stored by hanging in a closet or stacking under a bed or other location. In some embodiments, the laminated smooth surface of the foldable board promotes non-damaging attachment during shipment and storage, and prevents contamination and damage due to dust and/or bending. In some embodiments, the apparatus of the invention (including for example the first apparatus 146 and the second apparatus 136) can be attached to either/both sides of the laminated board, and thus multiple locations, and a plurality of scenarios and themes can be stored and maintained for potential reuse in the future. Since the foldable board and sheets of the apparatus (including for example the first apparatus 146 and the second apparatus 136) are relatively thin in size, even a board with an apparatus 136, 146 on both sides will be less than approximately 0.5 inches in thickness, and thus will occupy a minimal amount of space when hung in a closet or stacked.

In some embodiments of the invention, the first apparatus 146 and/or the second apparatus 136 can comprise a washable die-cut vinyl sheet panel and/or shapes, with or without fabric backing, polyester weave, canvas finish, laminated photographic paper, and can be applied and attached to a preferably smooth surface of the headboard 140 and/or footboard 125 and then removed, repositioned and/or replaced with a new die-cut vinyl sheet image and shape for a different location, scenario or theme. The apparatus 136, 146 that is removed can be stored by various means for possible future reuse and reattachment, such as by rolling and/or attachment to an optionally foldable board that may be hung in a closet or conveniently stacked, should the user desire to revert back to its location, scenario or theme.

Some embodiments of the invention further relate to the use of electronic imaging and/or streaming of images, video and/or sound to facilitate the creation and/or modification of the user's desired environment. Some embodiments of the invention comprise a first apparatus 146 and/or the second apparatus 136 that uses a screen for displaying electronic images would optionally provide mechanisms and support for the movement of the screen upwards and downwards, or through rotation by means that are well known in the television, computer, tablet and phone arts. In some embodiments, this could optimally allow the user to position the apparatus 136, 146 in a lower position when not in use to protect the screen area, and/or to raise the screen during use above the mattress level of the bed surface so as to permit the user to view, interact, and otherwise utilize the same, and the desired images, video, computer apps and games displayed thereby. Further, in at least one embodiment of the invention, the headboard 140 and/or footboard 125 can comprise an optionally movable screen (e.g., a screen includes three axis of movement so as to be moved upwards, or lowered and rotated) for displaying electronic images including pictures and videos. In some embodiments, the movable screen can be networked to display video games, television transmissions, internet content, computer and/or other electronic media applications or systems. In another embodiment, the first apparatus 146 and/or a second apparatus 136 can comprise a movable screen as described above can be coupled via various means to at least a portion of the bed frame 105 and/or the headboard 140 or the footboard 125 respectively. Thus, in some embodiments, any one image or a portion of an image can be substantially continuously updated and/or changed within the apparatus 136, 146 by virtue of being electronically and/or optically coupled to a image driver that can comprise any one of a video game system, a television transmissions network, an internet network, computer system, and/or other electronic media systems.

In another embodiment of the invention, the first apparatus 146 and/or the second apparatus 136 can comprise a screen that is capable of displaying electronic images such as a screen which may be used for a television, computer, “smart” phones, tablets and/or any other device enabling the electronic display of images. In one example embodiment, the apparatus 136, 146 can be attached to one or more of the headboard 140 and/or footboard 125 areas, facing towards the inside of the bed, or in the case of the footboard 125 it may also be configured to face inwardly or outwardly, or a screen that can be rotated to face either inwardly or outwardly, or an apparatus 136, 146 with a screen on both of its opposite sides or two separate opposite-facing screens that can be operated together or independently to display the same or different images. In some embodiments, the apparatus 136, 146 may stream, run or otherwise display any desired electronic image including, for example but not limited to, pictures, video, video games, television/computer and other programs such as Xbox, PlayStation, loadable apps and the like, and may employ “smart” technology permitting to enable customizable configuration, internet access and other features generally known to persons of skill in the art and/or as is desired by the user. Xbox and Xbox logos are registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corp. Playstation is a trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.

In some embodiments, attachment of an apparatus 136, 146 containing user-desired images and/or graphics (including for example one or more images 301, 302, 401, 402, 451, 452, 501, 502, 601, 602, 701, 702, 801, 802, 851, 852, 901, 902, 1001, 1002, 1101, 1102, 1201, 1202, 1301, 1302, 1401, 1402, 1501, 1502, 1601, 1602, 1702, 1702, 1801, 1802, 1901, 1902, 2001 can be by any means known in the art to which allows its application, removal, replacement and/or reuse with minimal damage to the structure of the bed headboard 140 and/or footboard 125 including image-containing sheets that can be attached via adhesion, friction, magnetic attraction or mechanical means. More specifically, attachment of the image-containing apparatus 136, 146 can be by way of vinyl sheets with low tack adhesives such as Flatheads, LLC brand materials or magnetic backings; Velcro hook and loop type strips; clips; buttons; hooks; suction cups; clamps; clasps; buckles; ties (string, etc.); hook-and-eye fasteners; pegs; rings; anchors; inserts; straps; double-sided tapes; conformant fasteners such as dowels, locks and biscuits; bolts/nuts; pins; threaded fasteners such as a screws, etc.; or any other mechanical, adhesive, magnetic, vacuum, and/or friction devices for removably affixing the apparatus 136, 146 to the headboard 140 and/or footboard 125 that are generally known to persons of skill.

It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that while the invention has been described above in connection with particular embodiments and examples, the invention is not necessarily so limited, and that numerous other embodiments, examples, uses, modifications and departures from the embodiments, examples and uses are intended to be encompassed by the claims attached hereto. The entire disclosure of each patent and publication cited herein is incorporated by reference, as if each such patent or publication were individually incorporated by reference herein. Claims

1. An adaptable bed and related apparatus, comprising:

a frame extending between a footboard and a headboard structure, the frame providing or supporting an area for sleeping such as a mattress,
the footboard having opposite facing surface areas including a first outer footboard area and a second inner footboard area, the first outer footboard area facing outwards away from the interior of the sleeping area and the second inner footboard area facing inwards towards an interior of the sleeping area, and
the headboard having opposite facing surface areas including a first outer headboard area and a second inner headboard area, the first outer headboard area facing outwards away from the interior of the sleeping area and said second inner headboard area facing inwards towards the interior of the sleeping area; and
at least one apparatus for an attachment to one or more of the footboard and headboard areas, wherein the at least one attached apparatus provides a user with at least one image of the user's choice that can be adapted as desired by the user to any different image of the user's preference.

2. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one apparatus comprises a first apparatus, at least a portion of which is attached to at least one side of the headboard and a second apparatus, at least a portion of which is attached to at least one side of the footboard.

3. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the headboard comprises a first apparatus for providing at least one user viewable image.

4. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the footboard comprises a second apparatus for providing at least one user viewable image.

5. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the headboard comprises a first apparatus including at least one user viewable image and the footboard comprises a second apparatus including at least one user viewable image.

6. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 5, wherein the headboard and footboard comprises at least one substantially identical user viewable images.

7. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 5, wherein the headboard and footboard comprises at least one substantially non-identical user viewable images.

8. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 5, wherein the shape and surface area of the first apparatus is substantially identical to the shape and surface area of the headboard.

9. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 5, wherein the shape and surface area of the second apparatus is substantially identical to the shape and surface area of the footboard.

10. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 5, wherein the shape and surface area of the first apparatus and the headboard is substantially different.

11. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 5, the wherein the shape and surface area of the second apparatus and the footboard is substantially different.

12. The adaptable adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the at least one apparatus extends substantially away from a headboard or footboard.

13. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one apparatus provides the user an outside-looking-towards perspective view of a particular location comprising at least one of an event and a scene, and the inner area gives the user at least one view from the perspective of said user being inside of the particular location.

14. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one apparatus is adapted to display the at least one image wherein at least a portion of the at least one image may be generated from a user's own photographs or other visual recording devices or renderings.

15. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one apparatus is removable and re-attachable.

16. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one apparatus is movable in at least two dimensions.

17. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the at least one image that is displayed by the at least one apparatus may be generated electronically.

18. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 17, wherein the image may be delivered by way of at least one of radio-waves, the internet, a video game system, an electronic storage medium, a cell phone, a smart phone, a DVD player, a CD player, a video camera, a digital camera, a laptop computer, a tablet computer, and a desktop computer.

19. The adaptable bed and related apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one apparatus is adapted to display at least a portion of the at least one image that can be selected from the group of images consisting of: an arena, a coliseum, a stadium. a boxing ring, a UFC Octagon, a concert venue, a circus arena, a theme park, an amusement park, a village, a city, a building, a palace, a castle, a church, the World Trade Center, a geographical landmark, a national park, a mountaintop view, an image depicting skiing down Mt. Whistler, an image depicting surfing a 30 ft. wave in Hawaii, an undersea view of the Great Barrier Reef, a vehicle, the space shuttle, a racing car, a submarine, a tank, a horse riders perspective view, a scene from a movie, a scene from a book, a scene from a work of art, a scene from the Spiderman movie, a scene from the Lord of the Rings movie, a scene from the Star Wars movie, and a scene from a Harry Potter movie.
