CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/055,931 filed on Sep. 26, 2014. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to home accessories. More specifically, the present invention pertains to an improved wall partition that allows for a user to provide privacy in a confined space or in an open room and that also provides storage for books, magazines, and various other items.

Generally, small apartments, dormitories, and other similar living quarters can be very cramped, wherein privacy is limited. Especially without a barrier, it is very hard to delineate personal space within an open room. As a result, people may have a difficult time focusing or working while other people are moving about the room and performing other tasks. Therefore, there exists a need for a wall partition that allows for a user to provide privacy in a confined space or an open room.

Devices exist in the prior art that relate to partitions and the supports therefor. Such devices include various foldable or collapsible partitions, as well as support members that support an upstanding partition. However, these devices, fail to provide a base support that is adapted to receive and support a lower edge of the wall partition therethrough.

The present invention provides a wall partition that includes a body portion configured to fold along at least one vertically oriented center line to form a plurality of sections. Each section includes at least one pocket configured to receive books, magazine, paperwork, or other similar items. Preferably, these pockets are centrally located on each section. Further, the wall partition includes a plurality of base supports configured to allow the body portion to be freestanding. The base supports include an opening therethrough configured to receive a lower edge of the body portion therethrough. Each base support further includes a flat side having a protective layer. In this way, the base supports do not scratch or damage a floor surface.

It is therefore submitted that the present invention is substantially divergent in design elements from the prior art, and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to wall partitions. In this regard, the instant invention substantially fulfills these needs.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

References are made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the wall partition. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for providing privacy within a confined space. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, there are shown views of the wall partition. The wall partition 20 includes a body portion 21 that is configured to fold along one or more vertically oriented center lines 30 into multiple sections 22. Preferably, the body portion 21 is rectangular in shape, and thus the sections 22 are also rectangular in shape. However, other shapes and sizes are likewise contemplated. The body portion 21 is configured to be upstanding, which allows for privacy on one side of the wall partition 20 in relation to the other side of the wall partition 20.

Each section 22 comprises at least one pocket 23. Preferably, each pocket 23 is affixed centrally on each section 22. Each pocket 23 is preferably rectangular in shape and includes an open upper end such that each pocket 23 is configured to receive a book, a magazine, or other items therein. Other shapes and sizes for the pockets 23 are used in alternative embodiments. The pockets 23 may be affixed to a first side of each of said sections 22, or the pockets 23 may be affixed to a first side and a second side of each section 22. In this way, the pockets 23 allow for a user to reduce clutter as books, paperwork, and other items can be stored therein.

In some embodiments, the sections 22 are pivotally hinged to one another via a fastener along the vertically oriented center line 30, which allows for the body portion 21 to be bi-folded or fully extended. Preferably, in these embodiments, the sections 22 are pivotally hinged with at least two fasteners equally spaced apart. In addition, the fastener is preferably a door hinge, however, other suitable hinges and fasteners that allow for the sections 22 to fold on one another are likewise contemplated.

The body portion 21 is configured to be upstanding, wherein the length and width of the body portion 21 allows for privacy on one side of the wall partition 20 to the other. It is not desired for this present disclosure to limit the length and width of the body portion 21. Rather it is desired to disclose and claim a functional body portion 21 that is configured to be folded and allows for privacy within a confined space. It is anticipated that those of ordinary skill in the art will readily envision various preferable alterations and modifications that provide a maximal amount of privacy. These alterations and modifications are deemed within the spirit and scope of the inventive embodiments described herein.

The wall partition 20 further includes a plurality of base supports 25 that allow for the body portion 21 to be freestanding. As illustrated, each base support 25 comprises a flat side configured to be placed flush against a floor surface. The base support 25 further includes a channel 50 adapted to receive a lower edge 27 of the body portion 21 therein. The channel preferably extends centrally along the base support 25 and has a linear configuration. In this way, the base support 25 stabilizes and supports the body portion 21 in an upstanding manner.

As illustrated in FIG. 1, the wall partition 20 includes four evenly spaced apart base supports 25 that are each configured to receive and removably fasten the lower edge 27 of the body portion 21. Preferably, the flat side of the base support 25 includes a protective layer 26, wherein the protective layer 26 is composed of felt or other similar material. This is particularly advantageous as it prevents the base supports 25 from scratching and damaging a floor surface.

In the illustrated embodiment, the body portion 21 is preferably composed of a rigid material, such as wood, metal, or a hard plastic, however, other materials are alternatively used to compose the body portion 21 in alternative embodiments. Each base support 25 is preferably composed of a thermoplastic or thermoset material, however, other suitable materials are likewise contemplated.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above descriptions then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function, and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specifications are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
