DETONATOR
In the present invention; a new detonator was developed which can be used with safety fuse, electrical fuse head or non-electric shock tube. It can be instantaneous or with delay. These detonators are made without any lead salts and sensitive primary explosives. These detonators are safe to handle. These detonators function exactly like conventional detonators. The application of these detonators is also same as that of conventional detonators. The safety in handling is very high when compared to conventional detonators.
The present invention relates to a process of manufacturing of the detonators and more particularly to the safe lead free detonator. Furthermore the present discloses of a simple method of manufacturing a detonator which is safe to handle and involves no additional costs.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONGenerally used detonators contain primary explosives like lead azide and lead styphnate. These two chemicals are very sensitive to friction and impact. The detonators made of these chemicals should be handled very carefully.
A new detonator has been made by substituting the hazardous chemicals with a new chemical primer, which is relatively much safer & do not contain lead.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONIn the present invention, a new detonator was developed which can be used with safety fuse, electrical fuse head or non-electric shock tube. It can be instantaneous or with delay. These detonators are made without any lead salts and sensitive primary explosives. These detonators are safe to handle. These detonators function exactly like conventional detonators.
The application of these detonators is also same as that of conventional detonators. The safety in handling is very high when compared to conventional detonators.
Earlier safe and lead free detonators were made. But these detonators are costly and processing of these detonators also tedious.
The present invented detonator manufacturing is simple. They are safe to handle. No additional costs are involved.
The technology is safe & simple. The products invented are safer & contain no lead salts. A detonator shell; secondary explosive; A delay element; A safe primary explosive; A metallic cup.
The invention is further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
A detonator shell can be made of copper coated steel; aluminium; copper; brass etc.
A delay element can be chemical delay or electronic delay.
Secondary explosive can be RDX; HMX; tetryl; PETN; teracene etc.
The safe primary explosive can be complex compound made of nitrates of zinc; cadmium; nickel; palladium and/or platinum with hydrazine sulphate; Hydrazine hydrate; anhydrous hydrazine with various concentration varying from 5%-98%.
Description of the specific embodiment is given by way of examples:
EXAMPLE-1Aluminium shell 45 mm length is taken. In that 400±100 mg of PETN/RDX/HMX/TETRYL/TETRACENE is filled and pressed. About 350±100 mg of primer is added and over that one cup is placed and pressed. 50 detonators are made in same way & assembled with electrical squib. All the safety and performance tests are conducted and results are found to be as per the specifications.
EXAMPLE-2Aluminium shell 45 mm length is taken. In that 400±100 mg of PETN/RDX/HMX/TETRYL/TETRACENE is filled and pressed. About 350±100 mg of primer is added. A delay element of required timing is placed over the primer charge and pressed. The filled shells are assembled with delay fuse head and long plug and crimped. Similar type of 50 detonators are made. All the safety and performance tests are conducted and results are found to be as per the specifications.
EXAMPLE-3Aluminium shell 45 mm length is taken. In that 400±100 mg of PETN/RDX/HMX/TETRYL/TETRACENE is filled and pressed. About 350±100 mg of primer is added and over that the cup is placed and pressed. 50 numbers are made and fired with safety fuse. Results are as per the specification.
Claims
1. A detonator which comprises of a safety fuse, electrical fuse head or non-electric shock tube, without any inner metallic cup, with instantaneous or with delay and having made without any lead salts and sensitive primary explosives whereby making them safe to handle while functioning exactly like conventional detonators.
2. A detonator as claimed in claim 1, wherein explosive can be made by complex compounds made of nitrates of zinc, cadmium, nickel, palladium and platinum with hydrazine sulphate, hydrazine hydrate, anhydrous hydrazine with various concentration varying from 5%-98% with metallic powder.
3. A detonator as claimed in claim 1, wherein NHN is mixed with metallic powder of 0-5% wt.
4. A detonator as claimed in claim 3, wherein metallic powder consists of but not limited to aluminium, silicon, boron, zirconium, iron and most preferably aluminium.
