Moisture Absorbent Headband

An absorbent headband for absorbing sweat from the head of the wearer. The absorbent headband includes a loop of material having an elastic portion connecting opposing ends thereof. The loop of material includes an outer surface having a logo attached thereto and an inner surface comprising an absorbent material that contacts the head of a wearer and absorbs sweat therefrom. The elastic portion is disposed on a rear portion of the headband and is shorter than the overall length of the headband, which allows the headband to be securable to a wearer's head without exerting excessive pressure around the circumference of the head.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/105,791 filed on Jan. 21, 2015. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to headwear. More specifically, the present invention relates to sweat absorbent headbands having an elastic portion.

Many individuals utilize headwear such as bandanas in order to absorb sweat and provide protection for the head and face when exercising or undertaking other activities. These and other types of headwear and head coverings, such as head wraps, head bands, scarves, head ties and the like, can slip and fall off during these activities. This can lead to frustration by the wearers at having to repeatedly replace or readjust the headwear, use smaller headwear or tighten the headwear to a point where the headwear may cause discomfort, or completely discard the headwear, in order to continue participation in these activities. Therefore, it is desirable to provide a protective absorbent headwear device that is effectively securable to a wearer's head.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of headbands now present in the prior art, the present invention provides an absorbent headband wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when undertaking activities while wearing absorbent headwear. The present system comprises a length of fabric having an outer surface, an inner surface, and opposing ends, an absorbent material disposed on the inner surface of the length of fabric, indicia disposed on the outer surface of the length of fabric, and a length of elastic material disposed between the length of fabric and the absorbent material, wherein the length of elastic material connects the opposing ends of the length of fabric so as to form a loop dimensioned to encircle a wearer's head.

One object of the present invention is to provide an absorbent headband having a rear elastic portion so that it is resistant to slipping off of a wearer's head during physical activity.

A further object of the present invention is to provide an absorbent headband having a sweat absorbent material disposed on an inner surface thereof for absorbing sweat from the wearer.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an absorbent headband having a removably attached logo disposed on a front-facing surface so that a wearer may attach different logos as desired.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.

FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of an absorbent headband according to the present invention.

FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the front side of an absorbent headband according to the present invention.

FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of the rear side of an absorbent headband according to the present invention.

FIG. 4 shows a perspective view of the front side of an absorbent headband according to the present invention worn by a user.

FIG. 5 shows a perspective view of the rear side of an absorbent headband according to the present invention worn by a user.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the headband. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for providing a sweat absorbent headband. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.

Referring now to FIG. 1, there is shown a perspective view of an absorbent headband according to the present invention. The absorbent headband 11 generally comprises a length of material 16 having an upper edge 17, a lower edge 18, an inner surface 13 and an outer surface 12. The length of material 16 may be any suitably durable fabric such as cotton or polyester, among others. The inner surface 13 contacts the user's head when the headband is worn and generally comprises an absorbent material which absorbs sweat from the wearer. The length of material 16 is connected at opposing ends via an elastic portion 15 such that the length of material 16 and the elastic portion 15 form a continuous loop dimensioned to fit around a wearer's head. A logo 14 is disposed on the outer surface 12 and may comprise indicia thereon, such as an image or text.

The elastic portion 15 can connects the opposing ends of the length of material 16. The elastic portion can be permanently affixed thereto via adhesives or stitching among other fastening methods. In the illustrated embodiment, the elastic portion 15 is affixed within pockets 19 disposed on the ends of the length of material 16. The placement and size of the elastic portion 15 prevents the absorbent headband 11 from constricting the head of the wearer too tightly.

Referring now to FIG. 2, a perspective view of the front side of an absorbent headband according to the present invention is shown. A logo 22 is disposed on the front surface 21 of the absorbent headband. The logo 22 may comprise indicia 24 according to user preference and may display various images or words thereon. In one embodiment of the invention, the logo 22 is removably secured to the front surface 21 via a fastener 26 such as snaps, buttons, or hook and loop fastening material, as illustrated in FIG. 2. The wearer may remove a current logo 22 and apply a logo 22 having different indicia 24. The logo 22 allows the absorbent headband to display imagery or words that can be customized by the wearer.

Referring now to FIG. 3, a perspective view of the rear side of a headband according to the present invention is shown. The elastic portion 33 is configured to stretch when the headband is placed around a user's head and contract to its original length when the headband is removed. A section of the elastic portion is secured within a pocket 34 and may be sewn to the headband via stitching 35. In a preferred embodiment, the elastic portion 33 is no more than half the length of the length of material 32, which allows the front and sides of the head to receive less pressure from the headband and increases overall wearer comfort.

Referring now to FIGS. 4 and 5, there are shown perspective views of a headband according to the present invention being worn by a user. The headband 41 is preferably worn with the logo 42 facing in a frontwards direction while the elastic portion 52 remains toward the rear of the wearer's head. The headband 51 may be placed either over or under a user's hair 44, 54 according to comfort preferences and may further be utilized to secure the wearer's hair during exercise or other activities. The headband is configured to both absorb sweat and prevent hair from contacting the wearer's face.

It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
