Motorcycle Helmet

The invented appliance is a motorcycle helmet, which makes modifications on current helmet by applying some alteration. This helmet has same appearance as current ones but changing the inner liner structure, altering inner liner material to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and decreasing the contacting surface between wearer head and the helmet, causing a decrease in temperature and the amount of interior confined heat of the helmet and preventing extra perspiration of wearer by a better ventilation and as a result lead to more efficient motorcycle helmet in comparison with current ones.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The invention is related to motorcycle helmet. Particularly, improvement of structure of constitutive layers in motorcycle helmets is the main concept of the invention.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The majority of life injuries in motorcycle accidents have been reported because of the lack of safety helmet. In some cases motorcyclist own the helmet but refuse to wear on the head. Two major problems of current helmets that motorcyclist don't show inclination to wear, are the inside high temperature and heaviness of the weight. High temperature causes extra perspiration on wearer's head and heaviness brings pain, and tiredness on his/her neck.

The current helmets usually have two main sections: the hard outer shell and the inner liner. The inner liner must be made of resilient materials for impact absorbing. Such a resilient material (expanded polystyrene (EPS) which is usually used) has high thermal resistance and acts like a thermal insulator, therefore prevents heat exchanging inside of the helmet and ambient. Moreover, these materials absorb heat, considerably. Said properties cause heat captured inside of this layer and creates hot environment in the helmet. This hot environment and resulting perspiration, especially in summer and long-term use of the helmet, can bother the wearer. In order to solve these essential problems, a new outer shell has been designed.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Two essential problems (heaviness and confined heat in the helmet) have been removed in means of the invention. Current helmets have been modified through altering material and the structure at inner line and deducting contact surface between wearer head and inner liner by this invention. These modifications, without any change to the helmet appearance; provides an easier inside ventilation, interior heat deduction, reduction of wearer's head perspiration and has lowered the weight. Therefore, the motorcyclist can use safety helmet even in summer time or long-term usage therefore the risk of life injuries due to the road accidents specially in the summer time has been reduced.

This invention has been investigated under pressure and impact resistance tests and succeeded in safety qualification.

DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 shows the side view cross section of the invented helmet to illustrate its layers, schematically.

FIG. 2 is an image that shows how the impact absorber is located on the wearer's head.

FIG. 3A is a three-dimensional image of the invented helmet.

FIG. 3B shows frontal view of the invented helmet.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The current helmets consist of two main layers, a hard outer shell 1 and an inner liner 2 (FIG. 1). Inner liner (2) comprises of expanded polystyrene (EPS) which is completely removable from the helmet and is washable. An impact absorber (3) is installed under hard outer shell 1. This structure is better shown in FIG. 2. The impact absorber 3 is made up of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and consists of two sections; however any suitable material to absorb shock and provide safety for the user may be used.

Surface (4) is in direct contact with the wearer's head and has several holes or indentations (5). These indentations/holes 5 comprise a diameter equal or larger than 20 mm that are arranged on surface 4 regularly. However it is obvious that the holes 5 may be arranged in irregular or predesigned patterns to better suite user. The holes 5 as shown in this embodiment comprise a circular shape, however it is obvious that they may take any shape such as oval, rectangular, triangular, hexagon, pentagon or other shapes known to facilitate the cooling of the user's head as needed.

Identical columns (6) are positioned between surface (4) and outer shell (1), in specific intervals. It is mentionable that columns 6 have aerodynamic configuration and allow air flow through holes 5 of surface (4), to make ventilation, without undesirable noise, and deduct interior confined heat in the helmet.

According to FIG. 1, a textile headband (7) is placed under surface (4). This headband 7 comprises secondary holes, coinciding holes 5 on surface (4). These holes reduce contacting surface of wearer head and the helmet up to 50%; that together with better air ventilation prevent extra perspiration of motorcyclist. Furthermore changing the structure of inner liner to an impact absorber with a surface and certain number of columns, deduct the weight of invented helmet compared with current ones.

As it can be also seen in FIGS. 3A and 3B, the appearance of the invented helmet does not interfere with the exterior design of motorcycle helmets.

It is obvious that the current embodiment is simply an example of a working helmet and the invention is not limited to such design. Other helmets with different configuration can benefit from this invention.

Claims

1. A motorcycle helmet, comprising a hard outer shell and an inner liner; wherein said inner liner comprises of an expandable material; an impact absorber installed under said hard outer shell; wherein said impact absorber comprises of distal surface that is in direct contact with a wearer's head and a proximal side connected directly to said hard outer shell; wherein said distal side comprises of multiple primary holes/indentations; wherein said impact absorber further comprises of multiple identical columns located in specific arrangements between said distal surface and proximal side.

2. The motorcycle helmet of claim 1, wherein said expandable material is expandable polystyrene (EPS).

3. The motorcycle helmet of claim 2, wherein said expandable material is completely removable and washable, wherein said expandable material is easily placed back inside said helmet after each wash without losing its integrity or features.

4. The motorcycle helmet of claim 1, wherein said impact absorber comprises polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

5. The motorcycle helmet of claim 4, wherein said columns comprise aerodynamic configuration and allow air flow through said holes.

6. The motorcycle helmet of claim 5, wherein a textile headband comprising of multiple secondary holes is placed under said distal surface.

7. The motorcycle helmet of claim 6, wherein said secondary holes coincide with said primary holes, reducing contact between said wearer's head and said helmet up to 50%; and provide better air flow and ventilation therefore prevent perspiration of said wearer.
