Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention generally relates to an applicator device and more particularly relates to a cosmetic applicator with an adjustable handle, for applying lotion or cream to human body parts, especially but not limited to normally inaccessible skin areas.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

With consumers becoming more conscious about their appearance and increased awareness regarding skin care, the cosmetic industry is continuing to rapidly grow at an exponential rate. Even with a huge variety of beauty products at their disposal, consumers still require right kind of tools for proper application of those products on their skin in order to achieving a desired look. Basically cosmetic applicators are broadly categorized into three parts namely sponge, puff and brush. There are many different types of sponges, puffs and brushes in the market ranging from disposable applicators to expensive washable applicators.

Cosmetic applicators ranging from brushes to roller balls have not only simplified the usage of cosmetic products but also potentially increased the efficacy of skin care products such as lotions, creams, powders and the like. These applicator devices enable consumers to recreate complex make-up and also trying on a variety of looks by easy application of different types of beauty products or make-up products. Cosmetic applicators can also acts as a delivery device for applying cosmetics to different skin areas.

One of the limitations of existing cosmetic applicators is reaching to the skin areas that are normally inaccessible or difficult to access. Another limitation includes lack of uniform coating of cosmetic substances by existing applicator devices. Conventional devices with applicator brush comprises bristles of similar size and design which requires cosmetic substances to be introduced in increased quantity, which is not cost effective and also leads to wastage of the product.

There exists a variety of applicator devices for cosmetics in the prior art. However, the existing devices suffers from one or more of the above mentioned limitations including access to normally inaccessible skin areas and efficacy of application. Therefore there still exists a need for an improved applicator device for easy application of cosmetics on different skin areas.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a cosmetic applicator comprising an elongate body which include an adjustable handle portion comprising a telescoping member adapted for extending or retracting the handle. At least one end of the handle portion comprises a gripping member adapted for easy holding of the applicator. The cosmetic applicator further comprises a head portion with an applicator brush consisting a plurality of blending fibers of different lengths, the head portion attached to the second end of the handle portion. The applicator brush with blending fibers requires only a limited amount of cosmetic product and also facilitates uniform application of the cosmetic product.

In an embodiment, the cosmetic applicator of the present invention further comprises a flexible neck portion connecting the head portion to the adjustable handle portion. The flexible neck portion may comprise a resilient material or a design that allows bending of the head portion up to a predefined angle in multiple axes with respect to the handle portion.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a cosmetic applicator device according to an embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the cosmetic applicator device comprising a flexible neck portion according to an embodiment of the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description of the preferred embodiments presents a description of certain specific embodiments to assist in understanding the claims. However, the present invention is intended to cover alternatives, modifications and equivalents, which may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims. Furthermore, in the following detailed description of the present invention, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. However, it will be evident to one of ordinary skill in the art that the present invention may be practiced without these specific details.

Referring to FIG. 1, which shows a perspective view of a cosmetic applicator device according to an embodiment of the present invention. The cosmetic applicator 100 comprises an elongate body 110 consisting an adjustable handle portion 120 at one end. The handle portion 120 further comprises a gripping member 122 at a proximal end adapted for holding the device 100. The handle portion 120 may comprise a flat or round configuration and can be made from plastic, rubber, metal or wood material. In an example, the gripping member 122 may comprise rubber or plastic material, with or without a textured surface.

In an embodiment, of the adjustable handle portion 120 comprises a telescoping member 124 adapted for extending or retracting the handle 120. In a different embodiment, the telescoping member 124 may include a locking member (not shown) for locking the handle 120 in an extended position. The device 100 further comprises a head portion 130 consisting an applicator brush with one or more sets of bristles, wherein the sets of bristles are made up of blending fibers 132, 134 of different length, size, color, density, thickness and, flexibility.

The fibers of one set of bristles may be arranged at an angle different from another set of bristles within the applicator brush, which facilitates uniform and thorough spreading of the cosmetic product in a particular skin area. The fibers of the applicator brush may comprise natural fibers or synthetic fibers or combination of both.

FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the cosmetic applicator device according to a different embodiment of the present invention. In an embodiment, the cosmetic applicator 200 comprises an elongate body 210 consisting an adjustable handle portion 220 which in turn comprises a gripping member 222 at one end, adapted for holding the applicator device 200. A flexible neck portion 226 connecting the adjustable handle portion 220 to the head portion 230 comprising applicator brush with one or more sets of blending fibers 232, 234. The flexible neck portion 226 may comprise a resilient material or a designed in such a way, which allows bending of the head portion 230 up to a predefined angle in multiple axes with respect to the handle portion 220. In an exemplary embodiment, the neck portion 226 may comprise a folded surface design offering flexibility.

In another embodiment, the flexible portion may be present within the handle portion, substantially dividing the handle portion into two sections, which allows bending of the handle of the applicator in order to reach skin areas which are normally difficult to reach or inaccessible to hands of the consumer while applying cosmetic products including cream, lotion, powders, etc. In addition, the gripping member of the handle allows firm holding of the applicator device by a user while usage.

The applicator brush comprising one or more sets of fibers differing in length, size, color, density, thickness and flexibility, thereby facilitates uniform coating of a cosmetic product over a specific skin area. Since the plurality of fibers for example dual fibers or duo fibers, facilitates blending of lotion over the skin surface and a lesser amount of cosmetic product is sufficient for application using the present cosmetic applicator device when compared to conventional applicator devices.

In an embodiment, the cosmetic applicator of the present invention may comprise a curved handle portion which is flexible enough to allow easy access to different areas of skin for application of a cosmetic product. In addition, the curved handle also acts as a suspension means when excess pressure is applied inadvertently, while using the applicator.

It is thus seen there has been provided a particularly useful device for the application of cosmetic preparations or other lotions, or as is evident, medication. The adjustable nature of the device is particularly useful to insure the uniform application of the liquid in places difficult for an individual to reach on himself. This is especially the case where a medication is to be applied and it is necessary to apply the liquid thoroughly yet uniformly.

It will thus be seen that the objects set forth above, among those made apparent from the preceding description, are efficiently attained and, because certain changes may be made in carrying out the above method and in the construction(s) set forth without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description and as shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
